Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member.
This month's ideas are themed "Beasts and Monsters". It must be a single figure and cannot be larger than a troll. So it could include Wargs and wolves, vampires, even a dragon hatchling. There is plenty of choices to pick from this simple guideline.
The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligibility.
Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY:
IDEA TITLE
"this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..."
Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion.
Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote.
Voting will begin on the 16th of May(first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 15th.
You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry).

Michael, I think a
Dragon Hatchling
would be an awesome idea!!!
You should submit it as your own idea this month.
It would be really cool if the figure showed the hatchling crawling out of its cracked egg!!

well though a Dragon Hatchling would be original (though not depicted in any tolkien work)
i think that we only have ONE version of a spider (Mirkwood big sized spiders) in the whole mithril range and it is VERY OLD... (M103, reedited as MC30)
Though this idea could very well fit as a vignette (but it would require some Chris desire and overall desire from the GF) i could imagine the scene when Bilbo fights and frighten a spider, thus naming his dagger "Sting"...
to sum up my idea:
Spider of Mirkwood(in fight)

Kine of Araw I suggest a Kine of Araw, a large oxen/Aurochs type of beast that lived near the inland Sea of Rhûn, called thus by the men of Gondor, who associated them with the Vala Oromë or Araw, "the huntsman of the Valar".
Vorondil the Hunter fashioned a horn for blowing from one of these beasts, which became an heirloom of the Stewards of Gondor.
This horn eventually came to Boromir and was cloven when he fell during the War of the Ring. I envisage a large, fairly shaggy coated creature, perhaps pawing at the ground, head down as it prepares to charge Vorondil.

PIED SWANS form Ithilien
We may find out swan from other producers BUT a swan fron Chris hand we nevet got ....
The Swan is on the ground wings wide open (6 feet)
Handsome aquatic birds, Pied Swans may be the most intelligent of herbivorous avians. They seem able to remember those who have harmed or helped them (at least for periods of several weeks), and there have been reports of pied Swans leading fog-lost travellers to high ground in marshes. Various rural and primitive peoples, such as the Marshmen of the Nindalf, revere these birds as being sacred to the Vala Yavanna. They are creamy white in color, liberally splotched and speckled with black and gray. Pied Swans are most commonly found in the Nindalf and along the shores of the Anduin in the relatively unspoiled areas of Ithilien.

The Razarac of Far Harad attacking in flight+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I reset my Roäc suggestion after that birdman suggestion, I suggest instead the Razarac M78 "reloaded" A nice figure but hard to come by, so here's the possibility to have a new one, dear collector fellows from I.C.E. Sourcebook Creatures of Middle-Earth: based on J.R.R. Tolkiens The Lord of the Rings The demonic Razarac is the most terrible monster in Far Harad, the most awful denizen of the Haradwaith. Known as "The Destroyer" by the Haradrim, it is a powerful, gruesome holdover from the armies of Morgoth in the elder days. Legends say that the Razarac was placed under the stone of the Ogladalo Vatra when the desert was formed, to prevent the water from being returned to the surface. However, in recent years Men have broken the seals to those deep caverns and now this terror prowls the night under the open sky. Physically, the beast is shaped like a Great Mountain Troll. Its hide is thick, tough, and coarse, giving it the protection of plate armour. For combat, it is armed with fierce talons hand and foot, as well as fangs set into huge and powerful jaws. From the massive shoulders spread leathery wings which, though they will not carry the monster on long journeys, will allow extended leaps of up to 200 yards.I suggest the troll-like monster with thin outstretched bat-like wings, in a dynamic pose of leaping or just landing, with just one foot on the base, maybe on a rock, arms striking, not pointing somewhere.... (that should not be much more lead than the wings of the already existing Razarac M 78, but smaller wings as of Balrog entombed)

Tica the BirdmanTica is a man possessed by a Tavar spirit, from ICE 8015, Forest of Tears, pg.16-17: Of course, the term "Tavari," being from, I think, The Book of Lost Tales Part I, couldn't be used, but even ICE was rather shy about incorporating "Tavari" into their text. As far as I remember, it's only mentioned on the back cover of the module -- everywhere else the Tavari are referred to simply as "spirits."

Er, sorry, it's out of topic, I know. But who chose that weird and crazy avatar for me? For sure it wasn't me, as I'm a tree. No one 'chose' it, it was a default avatar because you did not choose one before or there was a glitch with it. Just make a new avatar using the generator or choose a picture or add your own.

Thanks, Michael. I really didn't intend to blame you for that. But mind, please, that I never had any "avatar" here and would like to keep it that way furtheron. Thank you very much. - No harm taken.

well as I understand it Theobald, the picture you have is the default picture if you do not set any avatar. If you want "no avatar" at all, you'd have to upload a "blank" avatar to replace this one, else it will remain...

Thank you Gildor. But ... to be honest, I'm just too lazy to do that. It would take me too much time to learn about uploading something here and "setting an avatar", as you called it, you know. I better try to cope with that "default picture". So, never mind, it's all right. Sorry for having interrupted this thread with such a minor matter.

I can make a blank avatar picture for you and change your profile settings. I will do it today. If anyone wants to use the blank (a rectangle of grey) instead of an avatar just go to your profile and select it from the list of pictures available.

The Balrog of Moria climbing the Endless Stair

The Balrog of Moria climbing the Endless Stair Would be nice and (hopefully) feasible if at the same scale as the entombed Balrog (which personally I feel is the right scale for the Balrog ).

I tend to disagree with David about the scale, but it is a matter of point of view I suppose. Originally, from the Book of Lost Tales, Balrogs were supposed to be twice the size of an elf and were riding dragons, that was before JRRT changes his conceptions and makes them "maiar" instead of just creatures of Melkor. From Morgoth's Ring, it seems only Seven Balrogs did exist at all... of which three are named : Gothmog, Lungorthin (possibly Gothmog's original name though this theory is discarded by Christopher Tolkien) , and Durin 's Bane (more a title than a name)
the real size is subjet to debate as always because we don't know the size of the shadow shrouding the balrog as opposed to its physical body beneath the shadow. the "shadow wings" are extremely wide though as they reach from one side of the wall to the other... but these are shadow wings, are they real or not ...
Now the problem is : Chris Tubb sculpts Balrog WITH wings, that means that he gives body to the wings, and we know the wings are EXTREMELY wide and huge, so as to fit with the rest of the body... in THIS kind of representation, the body must be huge too, like the MB300.
It could be 'small as a troll' or even smaller only if represented as a wingless humanoid, with a cloak of big shadows...

I could have added 'compared to the original Mithril Balrog' which i like as a figure, but think is much too large for the 32mm scale. Smaller may be more accurate - who knows, but the EB is small enough to look compatible, but big enough to give a feel of power. But lets not get into the Balrog debate!!!

Er ... sorry ... but all these new "improvements" about design and colours leaves me a bit helpless. Alright, even considering my age and the decline of brain that might go along with it, to me the way of providing results of current votes or suggestions is just a bit more than just confusing ... so to say. Anyway, I'll try to cope with it somehow. Fortunately I'm able to access the forum without having to give in the "very" secured password which changes from time to time. Now I'm just curious where this entry will appear. Won't take a minute.

I am looking into removing the password requirement and instead ONLY allowing Gold Status members to enter the thread instead. That would make the thread more secure as no one can become a Fellowship member without my knowledge.

@michael : THAT would be awesome indeed! Ok, I set up a test account today and it seems ONLY Gold Status Fellowship members, moderators and staff can access the GSF forum. NO MORE PASSWORDS required. I am sorry for any confusion, but there was bound to be some issues with the upgrade that needed to be ironed out.
