Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member.
This month's ideas is for single figures only, so no mounted or Vignettes (more than 2 people or a lot of furniture + two people) please. A mounted figure counts as two figures (horse/camel/warg/etc)
The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligibility.
Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY:
IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..."
Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion.
Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote.
Voting will begin on the 24th of October. We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 20th.
You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry).

Finduilas of Dol Amroth, wife of Denethor
We have Gilraen, mother of Aragorn and Celebrian, wife of Elrond, I'd like to suggest another beautiful Lady of Middle-Earth, to complete a family, though it's a sad story with no happy end, for poor Steward Denethor was influenced by Sauron, the Dark Lord and fell into madness.
Finduilas (TA 2950 - 2988) was a Dúnadan Lady of Gondor, daughter of Adrahil of Dol Amroth, she was the wife of Denethor II and mother of Boromir and Faramir. A beautiful and gentle Woman, Finduilas after her marriage missed the sea and the freedom of the south and dreaded the shadow of Mordor, she faded and died twelve years after marrying Denethor in 2976 (Lord of the Rings, The return of the King.)

The Passing of the Evenstar
" .... But Arwen went forth from the House, and the light of her eyes was quenched, and it seemed to her people that she had become cold and grey as nightfall in winter that comes without a star. Then she said farewell to Eldarion, and to her daughters, and to all whom she had loved; and she went out from the city of Minas Tirith and passed away to the land of Lórien, and dwelt there alone under the fading trees until winter came. Galadriel had passed away and Celeborn was also gone, and the land was silent. There at last when the Mallorn-leaves were falling, but spring had not yet come, she laid herself to rest upon Cerin Amroth; and there is her green grave, until the world is changed, and all the days of her life are utterly forgotten by men that come after, and Elanor and Niphredil bloom no more east of the Sea."
— The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A.
I was thinking of a simple scene of Arwen either laying down at peace with hands folded across her breast or lap, or sitting upright carrying out some last preparation for her passing. The base would be slightly concave to depict the mound of Cerin Amroth with flowers all about. She would rest on a blanket or cloak and a pillow would be waiting for her head. I don’t think Tolkien elaborates as to whether any come to cover her body so that’s open to interpretation. A sad scene, but one that would tie in with the release of Aragorn upon his tomb.

Dwarven Scribe (Ori?)
I propose a Dwarven scribe (possibly Ori, who wrote at least the last portion of the Book of Mazarbul). He would be a proper dwarf, with cloak and hood, and a large book and quill pen. Actually, I see him sitting at a desk, but I understand if that might be a bit ambitious for a monthly Fellowship figure.
I'm certain there is a passage in the Silmarillion that states that the Dwarves loved Daeron's Cirth more than the elves, but I haven't been able to find it. Another relevant text would be from Fellowship of the Ring, Book II, Chapter 5:

I was thinking on another funny idea for October but as it seems some of the members liked the old lady, please have her suggested again:
ERIADOREAN GRANDMA FEEDING THE CHICKEN
“Since the farmer died she is in charge of the household. She is quite old and quite fat but still healthy because of the quiet life. She is wearing a long apron. One of her hands is picking a small grain basket; the other one extended is feeding the chicken. A small chicken is pecking at it. Her hair is in a bun and there is always a deep smile in her face."
Hope she was not tasty for the orcs enough to be finally cooked and we have the chance to meet her and enjoy her apple pie...

Gollum eating fish
Gollum sitting on a rock while eating a juicy raw fish in his home under the mountain. Remains of fish bones and orc bones at his feet scattered on the ground.
Cheers!

I also do not suggest a figure this month. As Milo said, there already are some nice suggestions and I will hold back until my latest winning suggestions will have seen the light (the musician and Tarannon). But of course I'll take part in the votings, as I always do.

Hello Mithril friends.
I will suggest again the DRAGON HATCHLING
My vision of the figure would be to have the dragon hatchling breaking out of its shell, perhaps at least half way free. The wings would still be moist and pressed back along its body, not extended yet. But I would leave the artistic conception to Chris.

.... Let's see if there were any Middle earth eggs Guys I know that the old woman feeding chicken is rather exotic figure, but I can not imagine to spend 25 euros for an old beldame or angry harridan with chickens.... we have to be serious.... I hope I did not offend anyone here.. !

I do not vote for a lot of past wining propositions but Chris rendering is "nearly" always a piece of art. I prefer an old woman feeding chickens than another Bilbo, gandalf, gollum ....

But why for example we would have a king, another named hero or something more interesting than women who feed the chickens.... I understand what is a piece of art and I respect Chris very much, but I can not match piece of art in a woman with chickens... We are now in the EU, so if someone wants to have live chicken I can send him one in the cage from my own yard... for free Maybe she lays an egg ;-)

I think I can well understand both positions of you, Mornedhel and Thingol. And to be honest I share them both. The criticism is about a, let's say, 25th suggestion of a named character such as Bilbo, Gandalf, etc. in a different pose. I also can well understand Mornedhel's point of view stating that Chris' talent can make an un-named character a very fine and excellent miniature (e.g. Bogatung or the wine-merchant and many others). What I clearly dislike is the low number of people taking part in the votes.

I agree with you Master Thimgol that the old Lady is definitively not as mighthy as a named hero or a LOTR well known character but that was the idea.
I mean there`s no real need for a ME great hero behind a miniature to have a really nice masteriece.
PCH12 for example is obviosuly not a LOTR based character but for me it is one of the nicest and most expresive miniatures ever sculpted by Chris.
In my pinion it is in the end Chris' talent and imagination what makes a girl with a pony a dorwinadan wine merchant or a guy with a big horn a rohir blowing the Horn of Helm.
Nevertheless I just wantedto point out that it's nice for me to have recently joined you guys. We may share or ideas and suggestions in a friendly and ME loving environment and we may even participate in the voting of the new releases. That's simply great.

It's just a matter of imagination. I just can not imagine a character in Middle-earth who feed chicken... MS605 Old woman feeding chickens..... what !?!?!?!?! ... in few months we would have MS615 Old shepherd by milking a cow... I'm sorry guys, but this is ridiculous... what a fantasy ! We have chickens at home in the village and we give them food every day...if someone wants to try this fantasy he could come to me. You are always welcome Mithril dear friends ! I understand you Master Sicania, we had interesting civil MERP figures before, but it does not lead anywhere. I think we should suggest that Chris made once and for all set of ordinary peasants and citizens for resonable price, so that "MS figures" becomes really MS figures... you know what I mean .... and that this forum becomes 100% serious. I think that this time that is left to us, we need to take for suggestions of figures through which we can imagine real Tolkien world...

That's the problem with only one voting round.... even when there are just 8 suggestions. 9 votes for Chicken-Granny, and 23 votes want something else... My vote was for Arwen, but I am pleased with the old lady also. Put her into Bree or something like that, make her even Mister Butterburs Grandma and she will fit into a Tolkien place!

We literally have hundreds of "heroic" and to a great part war-related miniatures (someone wielding some kind of weapon) by now. But beside all these hero-types, there are myriads of very normal people living in Middle-earth. In fact, most of them live very normal lives without ever seeing an orc or having to fight against the Shadow. And it's these normal people that make the lives of the heroes possible. In addition, the very special feel that makes Tolkien's Middle-earth so different from the standard fantasy world off-the-shelf is the fact that in this world these "secondary world" (=obviously magical) effects are very rare. It works as a believable world because at its core it is just this: normal people living normal lives (acvcording to human standards). And this part of a fantasy world - and Middle-earth - is highly underrepresented even in Mithril despite some very good "civilian" mini batches. I would highly welcome a whole series of just this: normal people in everyday activities like harvesting, milking a cow, driving a wagon with goods or a team of workers building or repairing a house or a shepherd with a few of his animals (and dog). In addition it would greatly help in building non-martial dioramas; e.g. a scene at the lord's manor or in a village when a "hero" (or group thereof) enters. Thus, even if you did not mean it that way, the idea of a farmer milking a cow is just that - a great idea for this kind of minis. Cheers Tolwen

It is not too late to vote for something that is actually mentioned in the Lord of the Rings books. "Displaying his standard, black serpent upon scarlet, he came against the white horse and the green with great press of men; and the drawing of the scimitars of the Southrons was like a glitter of stars." ROTK p. 139 "Out swept his sword and he spurred to the standard, hewed staff and bearer; and the black serpent foundered." ROTK p. 140 "And from the southward fields came footmen of Harad with horsemen before them, and behind them rose the huge backs of the Mumakil with war-towers upon them." ROTK p.144

I know that Tolkien had no intention to make a fantasy world... just the opposite. He created a world of myth full of normal people. He created a real world that is parallel to our in this moment. The world that shows his vision of this what is created today. A world where unfortunately technology won in evil and hidden fight over human nature and our real freedom. So this is not place to discuss about Tolkien philosophy and legacy.... this is just a discussion about how to spent 25 Euros for chickens Have a good night dear friends... Cheers... till the next month
