Mithril has far too many miniatures that are still under production and with the upcoming storm of new releases we need to consider which of these miniatures we should retire from ongoing producion. This means that once current stock is exhausted the miniatures in question will be retired, permanently. The survey is via Excel Online and is a simple Yes / No type for 100 miniatures. Default is YES to keep them in production. If you choose NO, that will indicate they should be retired. Simple.
Take it here. I will keep it open for one week.

I voted actually I think that MV and MB should always remain in production because they can always be a good way to promote the brand in a single "big product" and well... promoting a brand with unavailable product is a bit awkward I think Even if M62 is old, it's one of the items that lead mithril to be famous...along with MB279 or others. Now I don't see the point of having to vote for EACH reference rather than "series"....I can understand that for Gold Fellowship figures, but for the "Village of Bree" or "Lossarnach army", it would feel odd to have one or two references out of production and not the others... Thus when I voted no, I tried to choose all the references from a given serie

Yes, very difficult. Different figures need to be retained for different reasons - for instance, I opted to keep the Dwarves in because, without them, the various Dwarven "kingly" figures become rather isolated. Likewise, I kept the Half-orcs in because they're the only half-orcs in the range. And I just just couldn't doom Barliman to oblivion....

All in all, I thought it was time for the Village of Bree to go away... I know there are not many "townfolk" ranges in the mithril range, and with Bree gone, and the old Prancing Poney gone that makes them precious but well... if place is needed

I'm in panic mode now as I have many of these figures still to purchase!! Not sure my budget can take the thought of having to buy so many "now out of print" figures! ;-)

don't forget dear mindxt2 that the survey is not over and once it is, it does not mean they will drop all their stock just they won't continue producing it... they still have stock left (some at least)

No no no. Looking at things from a purely commercial perspective, getting rid of the "armies" is not a very sensible idea at all. Such "army" figures are pretty much the only Mithrils that people buy in multiples (i.e. anything more than two of a specific figure) and will come back for more of. There are many people who build their LOTR wargame armies using purely Mithril figures. People rarely buy more than one of each character figure..

Not yet voted - I need more time for that - but I assume I would rather see the Villagers to remain. I will make my vote dependent on the individual sculpt.... in general I think that Mithril is aiming for the collectors market, though, and not many will use Mithril to build up armies. The "woman with child" eg. is unique enough to attract the casual non-collector, while the Lossarnach axemen compete with many other miniatures around, until you are specifically collecting Mithril as a brand.

out the armies in Bree and characters I almost fully agree with this statement, as in my eyes Mithril is not a "wargaming" brand. Anyway I do not want to start a discussion on wether mithril should or should not produce that kind of miniatures, but I find they could do it through their Prince august Fantasy armies range . Furthermore, if that space is for new "M" references unrestricted and with lower prices than MS/MZ I wouldn't hesitate to take out older M ranges as I find that Chris T. sculpting skills have increased specially in these last couple of years. But I agree with Gildor about the boxed sets and vignettes as I also think they are "flagships" of the brand. It is also enjoyable that Mithril asks for our opinion before deciding! Thank you for hearing us!

A couple of the above comments miss the point. There are figures amongst these potential deletions which people have always bought, and still buy, for gaming purposes, regardless of whether everyone approves of it. The very basic point I was making, therefore, is that in commercial terms these "gaming" figures retain more future profit potential than most, if not all, of the others.

don't forget dear mindxt2 that the survey is not over and once it is, it does not mean they will drop all their stock just they won't continue producing it... they still have stock left (some at least) Well I went ahead and bought the entire Village of Bree, Hobbits of the Shire (except M350 they don't have) and the four Thorin and Dain figures they still have just to be on the safe side! I will soon order Battle for Mirkwood I & II and the MERP characters as well. Hopefully I will be able to acquire as many "still in production" figures as I can before they decide to discontinue some of them. It's hard as I am still spending quite a lot on the older figures from many different sources at the same time.
