Looks like we are on schedule and I received the list from Chris today. It is always good to see a healthy list of new ideas and certainly there are plenty of new ideas to choose from. This vote will be a blind vote, as usual, so you will only see the current status of the vote AFTER you submit yours. You have one vote only. You are encouraged to post a comment and support your choice or argue politely why your idea is better than its competition. Adding pictures or supportive text is a bonus. The 2nd round will begin on the 25th.

Not sure if this suggestion qualifies under the current guidelines but I'll try anyway...
Boat of Lothlorien (Legolas & Gimli) "Three small grey boats were made ready for the travelers... the company was arranged in this way, Aragorn, Frodo and Sam were in one boat, Boromir, Merry and Pippin in another and in the third were Legolas and Gimli who had become fast friends. In this last boat most of the goods and packs were stowed." The Fellowship of the Ring: Chapter 8, Farewell to Lorien
My suggestion is to have the third boat with Legolas and Gimli along with the Fellowship's goods and packs. The boat has already been designed in MS583 but we don't have any with the different characters actually using the boats. The boats of Lothlorien play a vital part in the story and it would be a fantastic addition. I would hope that the other two boats would eventually be made with the remaining members of the Fellowship in subsequent months/years.

Mounted Dunedain of the Grey Company setting out for the paths of the Dead
JRRT provides a very exact description of Halbarad's contingent that accompanied Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli on the dreadful Paths of the Dead through the Haunted Mountain:
"A little apart the Rangers sat ... armed with spear and bow and sword. They were clad in cloaks of dark grey, and their hoods were cast now over helm and head. Their horses were strong and of proud bearing, but rough-haired ... There was no gleam of stone or gold, nor any fair thing in all their gear and harness; nor did their riders bear any badge or token, save only that each cloak was pinned upon the left shoulder by a brooch of silver shaped like a rayed star."
Since they wore helms under their hoods I think it's a fair assumption that they also wore mail corselets under their cloaks. In fact I had a feeling that Tolkien mentioned this somewhere, but I can't find the reference now. (Might be a product of my unreliable memory...!) Even if Tolkien doesn't mention one, I feel it would be more realistic if our Ranger wore one.
The Rangers actually dismounted while they traversed the Paths, and were only mounted as they approached the door and after they emerged on the other side of the mountain.

That suggestion would suit me fine assuming a. the boat can be included as a 'mount' , and b. the remainder of the Fellowship could be produced in 'boat-mode'. I did purchase an extra 3 of the Boromir's boat sets with the intent of converting existing figures, but that's another story . Good luck, you never know, if it gets passed, and wins the vote CT may get carried away as he has done before and produce another unexpected release. I fear though that this will be considered to be more of a vignette suggestion than a mounted release.

How about another famous female character on horseback:
Arwen Evenstar riding to her wedding Upon the very eve of Midsummer, when the sky was blue as sapphire and white stars opened in the East, but the West was still golden, and the air was cool and fragrant, the riders came down the North-way to the gates of Minas Tirith. First rode Elrohir and Elladan with a banner of silver, and then came Glorfindel and Erestor and all the household of Rivendell, and after them came the Lady Galadriel and Celeborn, Lord of Lothlorien, riding upon white steeds and with many fair folk of their land, grey-cloaked and with gems in their hair; and last came Master Elrond, mighty among Elves and Men, bearing the sceptre of Annúminas, and beside him upon a grey palfrey rode Arwen his daughter, Evenstar of her people. And Frodo when he saw her come glittering in the evening, with stars on her brow and a sweet fragrance about her, was moved with great wonder, and he said to Gandalf: 'At last I understand why we have waited! This is the ending, Now not day only shall be beloved, but night too shall be beautiful and blessed and its fear pass away!' Then the King welcomed his guests, and they alighted; and Elrond surrendered the sceptre, and laid the hand of his daughter in the hand of the King, and togehter they went up into the High City, and all the stars flowered in the sky. And Aragorn the King Elessar wedded Arwen Undómiel in the City of the King upon the day of Midsummer, and the tale of their long waiting and labours was come to fulfilment.
The Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King, Chapter V The Steward and the King.
So many brave kings, knights and warriors on horseback in the Mithril range, only two females: one mounted Dernhelm/Éowyn and one mounted Lady Galadriel.

My suggestion for this month : Mounted Dunlending Chieftain
What the Dunlendings still need, is a mounted Chieftain to lead them to Rohan! As usual with chiefs, he has more money to spend for his equipment and so he may have more goodlooking furniture than the common dunlending warriors (chainmail, coat, helmet...) I know : very long time ago a mounted Dunlending chieftain has ever been made as part of the unreleased Warband set ‘Half-orcs of Saruman’ but 1. It has never been officially released, so it doesn’t really exist in the official Mithril range, and 2. Only a few happy collectors have been so lucky to obtain one of the few samples that have been cast. I think the other collectors (like me ) also should have the opportunity to get such a figure in their armies. Thanks to all who wants to support this idea.

Excellent range of suggestions so far - it's a shame we can only have one of them! There aren't enough mounted figure months.

so I'll have a second try for a
mounted wainrider captain
Let me explain, please. Those that were called "wainriders" by Tolkien were not described by him in detail, as we know. - They took wagons and chariots to war. I think that apart from those wagons and chariots there also must have been mounted officers among them to organize a charge perfectly. - I imagine such an officer, or captain, charging on a horse at full gallop. So far in all the Mithril ranges there sadly is no figure of a "wainrider" at all.
Why not give him a slight chance now?

Southron horse archer
With horse bow notched with an arrow firing behind him (in reference to the Parthians and their "Parthian shot" technique of riding towards the enemy then turning to fire as they ride away). Rider with cloak billowing behind him, scimitar in a scabbard, wearing a corset of brazen plates and small helm with plaited hair falling to his shoulders. quivers on his elaborate horse saddle and decorated trappings on his horse.

Yet another excellent suggestion! This is proving an extraordinarily good month for ideas. What a shame we can only have one figure!

Perhaps now with Mithril's more efficient figure production process we will have more Mounted figure months, and perhaps even a vignette once a year.
Michael, any thoughts?

I was contemplating to suggest the mounted M16 again, perhaps as one of the Rangers in the Grey Company. As this obviously overlaps too much with Barlimans idea (perhaps he adjusts his by making that the M16 - or not, as female Rangers are probably not really featured in Tolkiens world).
So I have to dig out another mounted version of an already existing mini:
Errand Rider of Gondor
Depicting an Errand-Rider in full gallop: "On that stretch [where] the errand-riders of Gondor reckoned to make their greatest speed."

Your mounted errand-rider is an excellent suggestion, Master Axel. And yes, you're right - since female Rangers aren't featured in JRRT's vision of Middle-earth my fellow will remain a fellow!

We will see about expanding the restrictions as time goes by. I am all for being more flexible, but not until we have cleared more of the backlog.

Very happy Chris approved of my idea for the boats of Lothlorien! Even if the idea doesn't win this month it is something I really hope will get made in the future. Having the entire Fellowship riding down the Anduin would make for an exciting display.

While I'd love to have Arwen riding to her wedding, this figure just cries out to be part of a larger Vignette like Bilbo presents the Arkenstone. Maybe part of a series of Vignette that join together to make one very large one.
