Thanks to all members who submitted an idea. I received the new approved list of ideas from Chris today. Chris has to check the ideas beforehand so no idea that would infringe on our license or simply not be feasible as far as Chris is concerned gets voted on, which would waste everybodies time. This is a blind vote, so you will only see the poll status after voting. This gives everyone a fair shot. The top two or three will go forward next Tuesday to the final round.

Beregond as Captain of the White Company of Ithilien I can't remember if this has been previously suggested, but my submission for this month is Beregond in his role as Captain of the White Company. Having been pardoned by King Ellessar for slaying Denethor's men, he is banished from Minas Tirith. I imagine the figure garbed in silver mail with white livery and a long white cloak, perhaps wearing a tall helm with some form of feather crest. in terms of pose, maybe a pose that indicates he is sharing a conversation with Faramir (off-screen), possibly handing or receiving a scroll or even a goblet of wine, as Lord and faithful knight share memories in a private moment.

The barrel escape – Dwarf crawling out of barrel The Hobbit Chapter X A warm welcome
... First of all a barrel was cut loose by Bilbo and pushed to the shore and opened. Groans came from inside, and out crept a most unhappy dwarf. Wet straw was in his draggled beard; he was so sore and stiff, so bruised and buffeted he could hardly stand or stumble through the shallow water to lie groaning on the shore. He had a famished and a savage look like a dog that has been chained and forgotten in a kennel for a week. ... "Well, are you alive or are you dead?" asked Bilbo quite crossly... "Are you still in prison, or are you free?" ...Suggestion is to have a (laying) barrel with open lid, and out of the barrel a exhausted dwarf is crawling or creeping, his upper body, arms and head visible. Which one of the 13 Dwarves – if it's necessary to name him – I whould leave to Chris Tubb to decide. In the book it was Thorin Oakenshield who first came out, Dwalin and Balin were two of the most unhappy, Bifur and Bofur were less knocked about and drier, but very exhausted, Kili and Fili however who were young (for dwarves) came out more or less smiling and they both helped Bilbo and Thorin to search and free the others: Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin and Gloin were waterlogged and seemed only half alive, and poor fat Bombur was asleep or senseless.

Beorn's animals
I retry to suggest for this month a rather unusual miniature: Beorn's animals (but which could also be associated with Radagast or even Tom Bombadil). I propose a deer with a squirrel on his back, a little bird on his head and a rabbit at his feet.
I hope this will be considered as a single : it was accepted at its first submission last year, but not in May... There is indeed only one subject: the deer. The other animals (rabbit, bird, squirrel) are only what could be considered as equipment given their small size.
Nothing heroic or historical (no reference to a character named in a book) but a subject that seems to me perfectly in the spirit of Tolkien.

Frodo at Amon Hen Soon he came out alone on the summit of Amon Hen, and halted, gasping for breath....up he went and sat upon the ancient chair, feeling like a lost child that had clambered upon the throne of mountain kings.

Theoden appeared several times in the Mithril range ; in his evening clothes (M27), mounted (M260, LT06), dying (MB279), dead (MV419)… but we don’t have him in armor on foot, so this is my suggestion for this month :
King Theoden, in full armor, standing on the walls of Helm’s Deep.

Sorry guys - Mine's a nomination I've made several times now (I'll wear your resistance down eventually!]: A TWO-HEADED TROLL This figure is based on a passing remark by the narrator of "The Hobbit", when, describing the rough manners of the trolls who captured Thorin & Co, he says that "Yes, I am afraid trolls do behave like that, even those with only one head each." So, number of heads not actually stated, but clearly more than one, and two-headed trolls abound in Scandinavian mythology and folklore (they're actually more common than the one-headed variety), so it's safe to assume that two-headed trolls were what Tolkien had in mind. I should also mention that the two-headed variety were often (though not always) specifically referred to as Ettens (as in "Ettenmoors". Chris could have great fun with this character. One idea would be to have one arm and head eating a horse-leg and the other wielding a club. Or whatever other combination takes his fancy. The minimum requirements for starting a vote is seven ideas. I count six so far so we are still one short. I will leave the thread open and check back tomorrow for more.

Thorin playing the harp at Bag end
"“Now for some music!” said Thorin. “Bring
out the instruments!”
Kili and Fili rushed for their bags and
brought back little fiddles; Dori, Nori, and Ori
brought out flutes from somewhere inside their
coats; Bombur produced a drum from the hall;
Bifur and Bofur went out too, and came back
with clarinets that they had left among the
walking-sticks. Dwalin and Balin said: “Excuse
me, I left mine in the porch!” “Just bring mine in
with you!” said Thorin. They came back with
viols as big as themselves, and with Thorin’s
harp wrapped in a green cloth. It was a beautiful
golden harp, and when Thorin struck it the
music began all at once, so sudden and sweet
that Bilbo forgot everything else, and was swept
away into dark lands under strange moons, far
over The Water and very far from his hobbithole under The Hill."

Sorry, Troll. Very disloyal of me, but what choice do I have but to vote for Frodo at Amon Hen? It's such an obvious idea that I'm astonished no one has suggested it before. .... or have they, and I've just forgotten about it?
