My suggestion for this month:
A warg-rider with a charging warg, firing with bow, with a shield on his back and a sword at his belt.

My suggestion:
Merry on Ponyback (Not sure if he got Stybba after the War?) in full Rohirrim gear blowing the horn of Buckland

As those of us in the Northern latitudes endure the long, grey months of winter, I have decided the appropriate time has come for my figure suggestion…Helm Hammerhand.
“Helm grew fierce and gaunt for famine and grief; and the dread of him alone was worth many men in the defense of the Burg. He would go out by himself, clad in white and stalk like a snow-troll the camps of his enemies, and slay many men with his hands. It was believed that if he more no weapon, no weapon would bite on him. The Dunlendings said if he could find no food he ate men...Helm had a great horn, and soon it was marked that before he sallied forth he would blow a great blast upon it that echoed in the Deep…”
“…In the morning, there came a sun-gleam, the first for long days, and they saw a white figure…There stood Helm, dead as stone, but his knees were unbent.” ROTK pp.1041 Houghton Mifflin 1994 paperback edition.
I find Helm to be a most interesting character. I think he may have been one of Tolkien’s favorite creations, given the amount of writing there is about him for a character that does not appear within the bounds of the LOTR.
I envision Helm standing alone, just at that moment when the first light of dawn strikes him. He stands, still and silent, and we are not sure if he is alive or dead. His feet are planted in a position of defiance, as immobile as the mountains themselves. Although he often took no weapon when he stalked his enemies, perhaps here we find his great hammer resting at his feet, leaning against his hip. His great horn, now silent, hangs at his side from a baldric. His face is fierce, yet pinched and thin from sorrow and hunger. His limbs are still strong, but his garments of white wolf fur and rough wool have become ill-used and torn. At his feet, or decorating his garments, there might be a few items that lend credence to the darkness of Helm’s decent into despair and madness…human bones.
The perfect stand-alone figure for a cheerless and gloomy February, a dark sadness before the first hint of hopeful Spring.

Wow, Presto!
Very impressing description! This might be a champion! Worthy like none before in this Gold Member Fellowship to be created, except Halbarad or Sauron. This is my opinion. I will let out this chance to have an own idea being realized. Because I´m full of enthusiastic belief that this suggestion will have a chance to win!

I was just contemplating to resubmit the "Merry blowing the Horn of Rohan" when I realized that the idea has other supporters, too. Still, I think that the "full Rohirrim gear" is not supported by the book. While Merry probably has a Rohirrim cloak, I am sure he will not wear helmet or any armour when travelling.
That aside, Helm is a great idea.

My suggestion for this month: A warg-rider with a charging warg, firing with bow, with a shield on his back and a sword at his belt. Fine suggestion, but I think that this should be published as normal M-series release.

At first, I think that I'll resuggest Theodred as he was at the battle of the fords, but when I saw presto247365's suggestion, I think that Theodred can wait few more mouths, now can be the time of Helm Hammerhand.

For the record, a mounted Merry should indeed be wearing his Rohan gear - remember, when I met Master Meriadoc and his companions at Bree on their way back to the Shire I pointed out that it was no wonder the robbers and ruffians had left them alone, since "They wouldn't go for armed folk, with swords and helmets and shields and all. Make them think twice that would."
As for my own suggestion this month, I'm almost inclined not to bother, since Helm is such an obvious winner that it's almost a waste of time holding the contest! However, for form's sake I'll go back to my old favourite of Eorl on Felarof again. He's used to not picking up any votes by now, so he won't be too offended if he's soundly beaten by Helm...

Well I think Helm is a very good idea indeed. I am not especially inspired for a suggestion so I'll pass but I'll support the Helm idea!!

Well I suggested Haldir, Orophin and Rumil over on the normal forums, and I voted for 'em last time, and I really want to see them...so I'll resuggest them again. They'd be perfect for collectors wishing to make "on the borders of Lothlorien" dioramas, and as captains in Battle of Mirkwood, er, dioramas also Such figures would be a perfect way to depart from the "triangular loincloth" and "summery" look for the current wood elves. Perhaps something more subtle and graceful might fit. Each could be subtly different: one could be stalking the orcs moving into Lorien. One could be greeting the Fellowship. Another might be preparing to defend himself. All three could use the same basic look, with (of course) different heads, poses and armaments. Also, I would be extremely tempted to buy several sets and convert them. Failing that, it would be nice to see Glorfindel on foot, based on the current Mithril classics model. Perhaps with a sword in hand - a model that could be either warily greeting Aragorn and Frodo in Rhudaur...or leading his warriors into battle as Arthedain falls. Gavin

Aelfwine, alas, its a single mini month... you will have to dump two of the trio - or go for Glorfindel!

My suggestion for this month : a half-troll figure. We only had one in the normal M-range (M149), and I liked it for its originality. As the M149, it should have app. the same size, something between an orc and a troll figure. In stead of a commanding pose, I would prefer a more action pose, for example waving with a club or an axe. Some armour on one leg or an arm, and a helmet.

True enough, Axel... Though one could cheat and ask for them as one figure with three subtly different poses Gavin

OK, I have a great idea for a vignette but I will hold that for next month. I actually will support two of this month's ideas and see how the voting goes - let's see how far Helm Hammerhand and Theodred get this month - I would be happy with either one.
Now, I also want to include a suggestion for a change in voting. I realize that this is a majority rules vote, but Bilbo the Barrell rider got only a "whopping" 29% of the total vote. Many of us voted for our own ideas and then sat back and watched us get another Bilbo. (OK, nothing personal to the Bilbo fans out there). But what if we had a two-round vote with the top 5 vote getters from round one going into the second round for more voting - perhaps just a couple of extra days? What do you all think? Btw, I mentioned this to Michael and he suggested I post the idea here. -Mark

Presto,
Your Helm Hammerhand idea for a single figure, after reading your description of how it should be cast and painted, is awesome! I have an idea or two, but not as deserving as Helm. I'll back him this month, and present my ideas in the future.
--Buhman
PS. I agree with the idea of a run-off. It would allow us to first vote for our loyalties, and second (in the run-off) for what we'd prefer of those the Membership favored overall.

the idea of a two-round vote is a good one . I would agree with the idea. Sometimes there are so many good ideas, along with your own that you don't know what to choose. If the one you voted for has not a lot of success, there was mayber another one which was your favorite in second that could have a chance to be chosen in the second round...I think that this way, every winning figurine would be really desired by the great majority

I'd also favour the suggested two-tier voting structure. Of course, it would still be theoretically possible for a figure to win with little more than a quarter of the vote, like Blobbo did last month, but it's less likely. Having a smaller choice would hopefully result in a more focussed approach to voting.
The real question, I guess, is would there be enough time? Michael?

I would also be in favor of the two-round voting. I have been waiting until the last day to see which figures have the most votes, and then choosing my vote to go to one of those. That way, I'm not "throwing away" a vote on a figure that doesn't have a chance to win.

It sounds like a two-round vote is a popular idea with many members. Certainly a few days from the suggestion period and a few from the initial round could be found to conduct a final round of voting. Perhaps this could be done on a trial basis to see if it would really work as well as I and others think it would.
Or, if Michael and Chris prefer, we could establish a new thread with a comment period and a member vote to decide this issue.

Then 4 days for the final 4 ideas (amount may vary depending on previous vote). But it will mean ALL members MUST be quick to vote the second time. Although Helm seems likely to win this time. Voting will begin a bit earlier then. We will start it on the 16th.

well Michael, when you say that all members must be quick for the second vote. I think that all members which are really interested in seeing one of the favorite win will be quick. Those who could not vote in a 4 day time (with a warning mail I suppose) would be either not interested in the finalists, or not very interested in the voting at all... well according to me. Indeed there can always be exceptions (unavailability, vacations etc... but that happens to each of use sometimes...)
(maybe this discussion should be transfered in another topic, apart from the feb suggestions?)

I dunno about the whole voting again thing, shouldn't the winner of the vote be the actual winner??? If enough people voted on it to win, then there was enough support for the figure in the first place.

;DI rather like the Merry blowing his horn figure, arousing the Shire folk to shake off the harness of oppression! Helm sounds grand, but thinking of that I think of the Fram MX figure, don't know why. Re suggestions for changes in the voting system I think I would agree with MBmotel17, the winner is the winner because it was voted for, once you start having other votes (not that the suggestion is without merit) to fine tune the winner it can become a bit bogged down not to mention headaches to the administrator of it all. Possibly a far simpler way of doing it would be to work on the 'sealed vote' system wherby the actual 'results so far' diagram is removed so no one actually sees who is the favourite, and members might get what they want without what appears to be the popular choice getting the vote because everyone else gives up hope. Just a thought, so far I have not been at all dissappointed in those that have won as it is the figures I am interested in rather than the subject. Each has a place in a collection. Regards, David.

I think having the two-vote "primary" system does seem a little redundant and cumbersome. I woud suspect that the overall vote total would still find us having a winner that has a plurality, but not a majority, of votes, even with a two-tier system. I DO like the idea of not publishing the vote totals until all voting is in.
If a suggestion or selection only gets one or two votes, it can always be re-submitted later. I would encourage members not to be discouraged and keep submitting their ideas, there have been A LOT of really worthy suggestions that we would all like to see made!

Well, I think we should and will find a solution for this "voting problems". I find it very unjust to let all the votes fall down which don´t belong to the champion. So it happens and actually happened that a minority of only less than one third of members are winners and two thirds are losers. It´s like in the different kinds of democratical election systems. One is having a majority election the other one a proportional representation. We in Germany were given a mixed up election sytem by the allies. It think this is very good for all parts of voting people. So nobody will have the feeling that he has voted only for the litterbox! The majority alternative is causing that second-place-is-first-loser-mentality! I support the idea of a second ballot. And I also really do believe that the voting would be more exiting when the results won´t be published before the end of the election.
To presto247365:
You are right. Everybody has got the chance to repeat, repeat and (!) . . . repeat his own suggestion. But it´s tiring! And obviously there are collectors which like to see the sixth, seventh or tenth version of the same figurine: Bilbo walking, Bilbo crawling, Bilbo stalking, with glasses, without glasses, riddling, reading, running, riding . . . `beg your pardon, but one can get disappointed after a while because I´m interested in the subjects, not only in collecting.

an open vote with visible results tends to lead people to vote for a favorite when they can't really decide between several figures they would like to vote for... Making this vote "blind" removes this possibility. A two-round vote conforts a winner even if it still has not the majority... well here is the idea then : I would not like to make things more difficult, but why not combine both aspects. two-round Blind vote, and we have the results (and thus favorites) of the first vote before voting for the second time. the idea of the two-round vote was, according to me, to allow people who had difficulties to decide between a lot of good choices to have a second chance to vote for a figurine who was one of their favorite but for which they did not vote for because they voted too early and there was no favorite by that time... adding the fact of having the vote blind assures that you really vote for a favorite and not only for the one you consider the "best", which is not very democratic

I decided for HELM at once. The idea and detailed desciption was absolutely convincing to me (thank you presto ). The new discussion about voting ... well, any agreement about that will be fine for me. - I have to explain. I think that Michael was a bit worried that only about half of the members take part in the voting. After that someone (sorry, I don't remember who it was) wrote that there also are members that might be pleased with any winner of the lists. It's the same with me - though I always try not to forget a voting. For me it has always been very difficult to decide. So until know I really was pleased with all the miniatures produced in the Gold-Fellowship-range I can imagine that there are some more members thinking like me.

O.K., so you don't want the skeet shooting Bilbo on roller skates? Don't buy it. Membership allows you to take 3 passes a year. I agree with presto in that every winner so far has been deserving and see no need to complicate things with two-tier voting added to the mix. The blind results might be an alright feature but the best suggestion is still going to win every time no matter how many times we vote.
