Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member. This month's ideas is for single figures only, so no mounted miniatures or furniture please. The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligiability. Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY: IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..." Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion. Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote. Voting will begin on the 16th of March (first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 15th at 16.00 GMT. You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry). If you have any questions then post in the other thread provided for such questions. GO TO GALLERY PAGE: www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.html

The year of the cat ( a song from Al Steward) better saying: the year of the Dwarves, as it is mentioned somewhere else already. I would like to suggest a Dwarven charakter, a bit like a "Beserker" (although there can not be a real Dwarven-Berserker) taking place in the Battle of Five Armies with a huge War-Hammer, holding with two hands in front of him and a special helmet design: ram horns, according to Thorin´s helmet (M363). Should we call this character: War Dwarf ( ?! I don´t know.)

I'd like to suggest Old Tom again:
TOM BOMBADIL with the ONE RING
From Lord of the Rings Book 1 "In the House of Tom Bombadil":
Tom Bombadil took the 4 Hobbits to his house after the rescue from old man willow While the talking by the fireside there was this breathtaking key scene when Tom Bombadíl asked Frodo to show him the One Ring, got it from the Hobbit held it before his eye, put it on his finger and DID NOT become invisible... Then he flung the Ring into the air, and the Ring vanished in a flash...
He is.
As Frodo got the Ring back, he was suspicious and put on the Ring to try, and the Hobbit became invisible... wasn't seen by his Hobbit fellows but he was seen by Tom Bombadil even so!...
I imagine Tom as single miniature standing with the Precious between his fingers holding it in front of his bright blue eye (paint job) or even on his little Finger, He should not be to slender, the fellowship miniature MS297 of Tom with the badgers is superb.
Cheers, Hwolf

My choice, again, is: Sindarin Bard or Wandering Elf of EriadorThe Elf is dressed for winter travellering. He wears a heavy cloak. He is well armed - with a sword visible on his belt. He carried a harp, perhaps slung over his shoulder, or perhaps he is idly strumming on it while watching the way ahead. He is ageless and yet young, long haired and clear eyed. He looks a little like the Elves from MV373 Some images for inspiration: and

First, just wanted to congratulate Bombadil1963 A fresh new idea. A character that is not very abundant: a half-elf! Elros Tar-Minyatur Elrond´s brother. In year 32 of the Second Age Elros became the first King of Númenor, taking the Quenya name Tar-Minyatur, meaning "High First-ruler". This was the convention by which most succeeding kings of Númenor took their royal title. He was the heir to the lordship of all three of the houses of the Edain, whose remnants formed the population of Númenor. As such, he and his descendants possessed heirlooms from great heroes and lords of the First Age: the Ring of Barahir, the Axe of Tuor, the Bow of Bregor, and Aranrúth, the sword of Thingol. It would be nice to have the Elrond´s brother and first king of Númenor. I hope there aren´t license issues when dealing with the character of Elrond as King of Númenor, as described in the LOTR´s Appendices LOTR-Appendices-The Kings of Númenor Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth P-171Regards! Once again I will not suggest a figure, though Barliman once convinced me to start doing so. So I thrice did it and had one "win". I need some rest now, please. Just imagine how long it would have taken to have suggest Ori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur, Kili, Dwalin, Fili, Gloin, Dori and Oin here - and then one after the other turning out to be winners. That was impossible.

Thanks you, to all supporters of Narvi! As I said before: a long way he has gone!
This month and perhaps some of the followíng I will only "watch the market". There have been very interesting ideas in the last months. And I saw a good one above . . .

And: Thank you, erchamion! I rally love the idea of Elros very much, but I fear it will be hopeless because of all that license-stuff! Elros and his story took part in the Silmarillion as well as in the appendices. But, alas, his life began in the First Age. And so he will be without any chance like all the others: Beren, Luthien, Melian, Hurin, Turin, Huor, Hador, Feanor and all his sons, Turgon, Maeglin, Idril Celebrindal, Fingolfin, Fingon, Finrod, Azaghâl, Telchar, to be continued. So sad!

[glow=red,2,300]STONE GIANT KING[/glow]
Stone Giants: The only known reference to them occurs in The Hobbit, in which Bilbo and the Dwarves encounter them as they cross the Misty Mountains. During a storm, the Stone-giants emerge, and cast huge boulders about a rocky valley as part of a bizarre game.
Stone Giants are likely a race unto themselves, with women, children, and a leader of some kind. Currently there is only one Stone Giant available (M307). Since the Giant I suggested last month did not fair well, this time I will suggest a Stone Giant King, in hopes of generating more interest in the race. My only regret is that I cannot place him on a throne, as no furniture is allowed for March.
Description: Nothing fancy or ornate about this massive monarch. The king stands at the summit of the Misty Mountains. His sandaled feet are planted slightly wider than shoulder width apart. Both hands grasp a crude but formidable looking spear. The base of the spear is set firmly in the icy ground. The elongated spear head is secured via heavy twine. Outwardly, only two things set him apart from the other Giants: a simple crown of curved boar tusks and a tremendous bearskin mantle. The mantle is made from two complete bearskins stitched together and covers the upper back and shoulders of the Giant. It is fastened by a length of chain that runs across the front of the Giant's neck. The head of each bear covers the great shoulders of the Giant. Note: I imagine only the upper portion of the head and jaws covering the shoulders. The lower jaws would be absent.
Yeah, thanks aelfwine. I've never seen that picture of the Troll before. Very cool! That brute looks like he could just fling his opponent into the air and let the fall take him!

So sad! That is precisely why I have placed special emphasis that this is a character of Elros Tar-Minyatur as king of Númenor who lived in the Second Age, which appears in the appendices to LOTR. Everyone who has said previously died in the First Age I think this is the same case of Gil-Galad, Celebrimbor or Círdan. Born in the First Age, but his life elapses along the Second Age (Gil-Galad-Celebrimbor) and into the Third Age (Círdan) ... None of them had problems with the license ..... I hope Tar-Minyatur haven´t problems though of course Mithril has the last word.....

Just imagine how long it would have taken to have suggest Ori, Nori, Bifur, Bofur, Kili, Dwalin, Fili, Gloin, Dori and Oin here - and then one after the other turning out to be winners. That was impossible. It has taken three years for just Bombur to appear, so that is very true. It had worked for the three trolls, or course, but these were only three and had an unexpected good run. On another iconic meeting, we still have no member of the council of Elrond (and SOME way to go there), so I will again try to get it started by suggesting: Erestor at the council of Elrond.Or should we start with another member? Who else was there who has not appeared repeatedly within the range?

I really like the ideas of Elros and Erestor... Axel, about the other council members , there is Glorfindel (afoot), and Galdor (from the Grey Havens, never appeared before) I don't know yet for whom I will vote, but the Tar-Minyatur idea is really interesting, and if Tar-Minastir was made from the LOTR appendices, there should be no reason for Tar-Minyatur to be made too !

Post by Axel on Mar 8, 2010 21:34:04 GMT
I was aware of Glorfindel, but we already have him on horse. No reason to skip a new incarnation, though. I forgot about Galdor.
I wonder who else might have attended the meeting... Surely Gimli and Legolas did not travel alone, and some other members of Elronds household will be present. Perhaps the odd Ranger might be present, too? I am quite sure Tolkien would have mentioned somebody from Dale or Esgaroth, and judging from Legolas reaction later on there was nobody (aparently) from Lorien.
Anyway, with all these in "exciting" poses sitting around debating I assume the only chance for an incarnation of Elronds council is to hit the odd jackpot and go the way of Theobald with the "unexpected party". The former part of that is even more unlikely then a successfull voting, though :-)

OK then, let´s scrape the last coiny things together and form a "fellowship of the new MX" : The council of Elrond !
There is already one member . . .

Atypically for me I suggest an Orc: BOLG, orc-leader of Mount GundabadI see him with his helm under his long arm. In the other hand he has a whip, showing in the direction where his army should walk to. On his back there are his sword and his shield. Also he wears shoes like the "Grischnâkh"-figure.

Nice! Currently Captain Bolg exists in vignette and wolf-mount only. A single Bolg figure, as you described, is a fine idea! Yesss, it's always a pleasure to see at least one Orc in the lineup!

Although- Bolg exists in the mentioned vignette, I have to say, that the pose is great! And- Gilgaladtolkien, you are sure he should wear Grishnakh´s shoes: roman sandals . . . ?

There are several great ideas here, some old and some new! A certain Rohan Lord mentioned by a few people before has been my suggestion recently, but some said he'd be better in a mounted figure month, and I completely agree.
So this month I'll make a new suggestion (at least I don't think he has been mentioned before as a King):
[glow=red,2,300]KING ELDARION, SON OF ARAGORN[/glow]
In the prime of his life, he would be The King of a united land, both Gondor and Arnor, left to him by Aragorn and Arwen. He is a King of Men born in the Fourth Age of Middle-Earth.
I imagine him standing, as though addressing a group of nobles.
ELDARION'S head would be adorned with the Winged Crown of Gondor, worn by his father Aragorn at his coronation. And in his right hand would be the Septre of Arnor, royal heirloom from the ancient (and now reunited) Kingdom of the North. A royal cape would cover his shoulders, dropping to just above the floor. I imagine that he would wear normal kingly garb over special Mithril armor. Andruil, the sword that was broken and reforged, would be in it's scabbard at his side.
His ascension, and the passing of Aragorn and Arwen, are specifically mentioned in Appendix A at the end of the Return of the King. It is actually a moving piece of writing.

Gondorian Mariner Non named character, but a sailor manning a Gondorian ship might be useful. No suggestion of how he should look, officer, seaman etc. but I guess the clothing would suggest a seafaring life and probably barefoot for shimmying up the rigging (unless an officer of course ).

Some of the suggestions are extremely nice and some are quite old!! (see Axel's list for refernces: mithrilfigures.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=july2005&action=display&thread=159)As some characters are suggested again and again by different members, I would like to throw in something another GF has once suggested to stay in line with the idea of having one day all main characters of the provinces of Gondor (if it will not be possible to have them in a box set or as normal 'M"): [glow=blue,2,300]Angbor, the fearless[/glow]Angbor stood and fought against the corsairs desperatly, when Aragorn came and saved the day defeating the corsairs and catching their ships to aid Minas Tirith in the battle of the Pelennor. This would be the chance to have an alternative to the ridiculous vision of another company- I believe, the MASTER will not cloth and armour him in a fantasy-highlander style. The corsairs and their 'ancestry', the kinstrife and Thorongil are something I am very fascinated of. Beside that I like the idea of Eldarion very much for some personal reasons. NAMARIE estel
