Spring is almost over, but new ideas are still germinating in the minds of our collectors. Its certainly a wild mix this month, and includes some rare characters and some much loved favourites.
The vote will end on the 21st.
Please comment on why you think your idea should be supported.
This is a blind vote so you will see the current status AFTER you vote.

Well, after much consideration, I went for the wandering Noldor Elf.

Armored Barrow-wight. Think of the possibilities. You know this character doesn't necessarily have to be a blood-thirsty demon inhabiting some ancient burial ground. With a flick of your brush you could have a variation of MS439, The King of the Dead! Only, instead of being armed with just a spear, this fellow goes after Corsairs with sword, shield and pointed, scrotum-piercing boots! Hmmm, but think again my friends! The Armored Barrow-wight could very easily serve as one of the Nazgul or even the Dark Lord himself. As Frodo approaches Mount Doom with the one ring, Sauron's power increases, and the Dark Lord takes physical shape once more. Not yet fully restored, Sauron appears as a horrid reanimated corpse, ready to rally his troops to victory! Then in goes the ring and POOF! It's over! For now, this is my Armored Barrow-wight.

Yes, a very nice illustration indeed, Mark ! Because I am a real fan of the first Borrow-Wight-King, the M024, I will make my mind up to give him a chance . . .

I will support my own suggestion, too. The wandering Noldo-elf. May be a good start for a new theme . . .

I found all three references. "..Mauhur and his lads are in the forest, and they should turn up any time now." T T p.72 "Then suddenly the answering cries of orc-voices came from the right, outside the circle of watch-fires, from the direction of the forest and the mountains. Mauhur had apparently arrived and was attacking the besiegers." T T p.75 "The sounds had died away. Evidently Mauhur and his 'lads' had been killed or driven off." T T p.76

Thank you for the kind words ddaines and rita.de. I only wish I could have submitted my first idea. It was originally supposed to be a type of Troll. Unfortunately, my initial idea was based more on a whimsical notion by the author and insufficient to warrant a figurine. I'm sure it would have made a greater impact than the Armored Barrow-wight though. Anyway, things happen for good reason. And there is already a grand idea for a Troll this month! I am a staunch supporter of the Orc, especially the fighting Uruk-Hai. Mauhur is a pure example of the latter. Sadly underrated, he has nevertheless picked up greater momentum this time, barreling his way through the competition early on. I only hope the enthusiasm for the character continues to grow and he is eventually made into a miniature. Go Mauhur! Go!

As usual, I remain a staunch supporter of named Tolkien characters of whom no Mithril figure yet exists. I therefore voted for my own suggestion, but would be equally happy to see Mauhur, Hurin (who I've suggested myself on several occasions), or even Angbor (though he should ideally be a mounted figure). Good luck to them all.

Four days left to vote, and thirty-eight have voted so far. That's the same number as before and the time before that. I certainly hope more members decide to participate this time. The Gods know the Armored Barrow-wight could use a few more votes...yeah, about a dozen more! Come on! Was the reference to Sauron too much? Forget it then! Think Lord of The Barrow-wights! And remember: A vote for anything but a wight just ain't right! FIGHT FOR THE WIGHT! THE WIGHT IS RIGHT! QUITE RIGHT! RIGHT! JUST DO IT ALL WIGHT!!!

I know these are very old figurines but : M168, or M173 or M251 and most recently MS439 seem to all fit your description and even somehow match your picture in the case of M251... though rare it may be, and discontinued... Or am I wrong?

I know these are very old figurines but : M168, or M173 or M251 and most recently MS439 seem to all fit your description and even somehow match your picture in the case of M251... though rare it may be, and discontinued... Or am I wrong? Hello Gildor, The subject matter is hardly original, very true, but the drawing is. Mithril has made several Barrow-wights, not to mention skeletons, ghouls, ghosts, etc. Many share similar features. You know, it's difficult to be 100% original, especially when it comes to the undead. One can only do so much before familiar patterns begin to appear. The only reference I used in my sketch was the human skull. Oh, and the shield design was borrowed but sufficiently altered. One thing I have learned over time is, whenever you submit something that you believe is unique or original, chances are something like it already exists. I know of all the miniatures you mentioned except for one - M251. BTW, that is a very cool miniature! However, I wouldn't say my sketch looks like it. First of all, M251 is a heavy-looking character. Secondly, the armor is quite different. He isn't wearing a crown, and he certainly isn't wearing the scrotum-piercing boots. Other than having a skull-face, I just don't see it. In regards to MS439, I had forgotten that we even had a King of The Dead miniature. I think it was aelfwine that reminded me, so I changed the title from King of Dunharg to Armored Barrow-wight. Anyway, MS439 still has some flesh on his face and wields a spear. It's a fine miniature, but, again, I don't think my Armored Barrow-wight looks like him at all. Any similarities that exist between the two are purely coincidental. And be certain that C.T. would sculpt the miniature the way he sees it anyway. To clarify, my drawing is original. It is my sketch. No one else has seen it before, except for the people in this forum. I hope this clears up any suspicion of copyright infringement.

Easy...calm down...it's only a sketch. Thank you rita.de for your support and thank you Gildor for the belated compliment. As I was saying earlier, I wish more people would put their ideas down on paper and submit them to the Forum. Drawings generate interest and even controversy at times. Like ginger on fried rice, it spices things up a bit. And I am certain there is a tremendous amount of talent out there. I've looked into the gallery many times and have seen it. I'm with twrich. It would be nice to see fifty votes. Still, Forty-five is better than last month! Okay, time for one last attempt to raise the dead! Wake up! Arise sleeping Gold Forum Members! Stop pretending to be DEAD! Vote for the UNDEAD! VOTE [glow=red,2,300]ARMORED BARROW-WIGHT!!![/glow]
