Well, it's been a looooong time in coming, and I'm sure it will be greatly received! But a question...given the scope and size of the new Mx series, I can't but wonder what the cost of this piece (in its entirety) would be. I already despair at current prices...

The £/euro exchange rate is also of concern regarding this at the moment , will Mithril offer a lay-away plan which will allow a deposit to be paid followed by installments to pay, goods despatched on receipt of final payment? Assuming of course the individual prices will be in line with current MX/GF prices

The final prices will be worked out when we have all the figures. We do plan to offer a range of payment options including a kind of direct debit option (credit card only) over a period of 5 months, and I am trying to get the set sold in groups of 3 figures (x5) with a free large collectors base with the first purchase. The reason we cannot give you a cost is that we have not all the figures yet and the labour involved cannot be assessed until we do, there is a lot of furniture and accessories that will make the process more complex than usual. The cost will be similar to our current MS releases per figure/vignette.

mmhh two elements here : if the payment "may" be done in a period of 5 months, one for each group, I do suppose that each of the 5 group will already have a substancial price in itself...
as for the base, that's what interests me the most. If I understand well, teh base would be sold along with the first group of 3 figurines... but if it is "collectors" does that mean that the base will be in even fewer quantity than the figurines to be fixed on the base? (let's say 100 castings of the figurines but how many of the base?) and do you have an approximative idea of the "dimensions" of the base ? will it be round or square?

Thanks for the reply Michael, it makes me feel easier (or my wallet ) to know that there are some plans in hand. My only other question would be is the base likely to be an optional purchase? As I'm 99% certain to try and create a part of Bag End to house these figures it would probably be a surplus to requirement. Anyhow, I'll await the company to work out a few costings first. David

The base was described in the newsletters for the last 2 weeks. It will be semi-circle about 100mm diameter and 50mm radius. We will have 100 to sell and so we will supply 100 bases to match. I cannot give you more info as I do not have any to supply.

Thanks to all for the replies (and Michael's patience!). I'm better informed on how to plan for this upcoming masterpiece.

Joe's paint-up of the UP looks the business and is a great advert for this fantastic release; mine's ordered so I await the postman's knock with baited breath (as well as keeping my bank statement hidden ;D).

Well the postman knocked, and what a package! I don't think anyone who has ordered the U.P. will be dissapointed with what they receive; this is a most professional product in all respects from the padded blue box, the instruction sheet, and of course the beautifully sculpted and cast figures by C.T. and ALL the team at Mithril who have contributed to this undertaking. And of course to Theobald for getting this project off the ground a big thank you is in order. Painting this will be so much easier with the way the figures are attached to their sprues, I can hopefully keep my fingers out of the way and get the paint on the figure and not on me!

Thank you, David, but don't get nervous, as painting the vignette accordingly needs some calm hands and time

Incredible, awesome! I've no words to describe this diorama. You've done the best.
Will be to much for you to give us a step-by-step or a little guide about it? I'll love do any like this (with time and much, much pacience) with my Unexpected party set. Sure I'll be much worse than yours (I'm no so talented ) but I want to give a try!
My congratulations again, a very, very, very nice work!!!

My congratulations again, a very, very, very nice work!!! Thank you imisel, I may be able to do just that - I have some 'in progress' shots of the early stages. I am planning to write something for Tolwen to use in the Other Minds publication, but perhaps there is room to also include this along with the painting tutorials by Michael Bunn

Its good to see a version that really uses the options this "vignette" offers. Great work, I am impressed!
