well maybe some collectors or customers have always tried to understand or know why some figurines have always been rarer than others...
There can be several reasons... mould breaking, small number of castings, promotional figurines never publicly released
it would be cool to have a little history behind those rarities...
Some are quite well known:
The M16, M10 and M7 are known to be the top 3 rarest Mithril from the M range... why so? (I may know the answer but the purpose is to participate in this debate so I won't give all the details in the first post hehe)
there are also other unexpected rarities... MS437 Halbarad, from the MS Gold Fellowship range, or the M247 the elf warrior of Nargothrond?
and there is also the story behind the rarity of the early Christmas 54mm figurines , those prior to 1994, from 1988 to 1993....
I believe the M16 is rare as it was pulled due to the fragility of the miniature - this is evidenced by my own copy (a lucky find indeed!) as the ankles are very thin and the sculpting cuts make them even more prone to breaking - I can certainly envisage an issue with casting it! Not sure on others though. I hunted the Razorac down finally a few years ago and have picked up 2 more since......all things come to he who waits!
That's not a problem, thorondor. 2005 was the only (!!!) year in which no Christmas figure was released. So there is none. M495 is "Glorfindel and Lord of the Nazgûl". It was a Mithril release for the "Salute Zero Seven"-event in 2007. There were about 4000 figures casted. That's all there is.
well, M, MV, MS, MB, MW, MX all share the same referencing continuity except for two oddities : M369 and MB369... a sad mistake in the referencing PM496 and MS496... a mistake about the second salute event...)
"Elves seldom give unguarded advice, for advice is a dangerous gift, even from the wise to the wise, and all courses may run ill."(Gildor Inglorion, LOTR1)
well it is not really a mithril range in itself.... since it was made for Salute Event... I suppose that they used the PM prefix when they noticed there was a mistmatch because MS496 did already exist
i disagree -- ms495 was made for the salute event as well and is part of the mithril range regardless. i suppose the fact that ms496 was already assigned, as you pointed out, was the primary reason for the different prefix.
apart from that, the number 496 indicates that it's part of the series, otherwise they could have used a completely unrelated cat # (or no cat # at all).
Right, my dear fellows. All this misunderstanding might be caused of a mix of numbers, at least that's what I Think. So let me try to explain, please. MS496 is the "The witch-king" MS495 definitely is the Salute release. I dare to say as I still keep one in blister.
jackie: Hello everyone - I'm new here.

twrich: Welcome, Jackie! The website has recently been redesigned, and I'm not sure if most members know about the "Shoutbox." I hope you enjoy our crazy group!

Theobald: what exactly is a shout-box ?
May 18, 2013 23:21:59 GMT
ddaines: Haven't a clue, Master Tree, maybe an oportunity to make a quick announcement?!?
May 19, 2013 16:13:41 GMT
Theobald: Well, Master David, maybe you're right. Though ... to be honest, I tried to shout at that box several times within the last few days ... I couldn't even witness an echo. So, strange thing that is, as I never preferred to shout whenever I do try to speak. ;

barliman: Is a shoutbox anything like a swearbox? I mean, do I have to cough up money whenever I use the words "Games Workshop"?
May 23, 2013 18:29:46 GMT
Gildor: I think this shoutbox is a chatbox, it allows for those who are connected on the forum at the same time to chat in real time (provided they read the shoutbox)...

jami: Hello. I'm new here and I would like to know how I can take part in that new opportunity to get my face sculpted to a miniature? It says in email that I must tell my username to Michael O'Brien. It's jami

Michael O'Brien: Hi Jami, Are you a fellowship member? I don't see you on our accounts. If you are not then copy and paste this link: http://www.mithril.ie/PBSCCatalog.asp?CatID=1914170&BrandID=167465

linherdir: Hello all. I'm Jami . That other account (named jami) is my old account and I had forgotten that I had this new one (which is the one with fellowship membership). Sorry for the confusion, I was pretty lost myself since I haven't been very active till now

Michael O'Brien: Hi Linherdir, you should be able to access the thread and post your idea there.

rohangrl: Sigh, I have used a boringly real avatar to keep it simple- hope it's ok. I wanted to use colour but it came out wonky, my strawberry blonde hair looks purple.

Michael O'Brien: There is nothing wrong with a real photo. I used one for years, I only used a cartoon for the novelty of the new designer avatar option to show people what they could do.
