Just curious to know what happened to this chap whose image I stumbled across when I accessed the Mithril Miniatures Face Book page. Did this figure ever get released? I saw it mentioned on the MM FB page on my phone (dated 24 June 2022) along with MZ 708, MZ709, MZ711, but it doesn't appear on the Mithril Website, nor in MMP. This may have been mentioned in a thread somewhere that I have missed, but just curious

Haradhrim/Easterling Soldier at Osgiliath (as described by Boromir at The Council of Elrond)
I see this as a complimentary figure to the recent Boromir at Osgiliath figure. At the Council of Elrond, Boromir recounted this battle as a sudden attack in which the men of Gondor were outnumbered by the forces of Mordor with their allies, the Easterlings and Haradrim. However, he attributed Gondor's defeat to a power that had not been felt before, issuing from a great black horseman.
The figure would be in an attacking or parrying pose so that it could be set against Boromir, armed with a scimitar or an axe, possibly with one foot on a stairway giving the impression that Boromir is above.

And the demise of the mounted female M16, who lost by one vote and never got made as "mounted" months are rare to behold. I fail to see architecture as a focus of this range, especially not one that should be both next to monumental and then invisible to the touch. Well, majority votes sometimes go awry. A price worth paying. But doing the same mistake twice bodes ill. I would love to see my misery scepticism being refuted by a splendid sculpt, though. Being wrong is also part of life. I actually have a 'West Door' that I printed off a couple of years ago which I am/was going to use in a revamped diorama of the entering the Mines passage of the book. I guess I will see how the vote goes

If the West Gate wins, are we certain the figurine will be possible to make this time ? It was already suggested back in November 2006 by Bombadil1963 but in the end it proved impossible to sculpt and produce (but back in the days, 3D was not there.. neither sculpt nor print) if it wins though I'd really wish it could tall and wide enough to fit a troll. as for the inscription I hope it could be realized using the canonical shape of the inscriptions made by Narvi and Celebrimbor and shown in the books. here is a copy tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Doors_of_Durin#/media/File:J.R.R._Tolkien_-_Doors_of_Durin.jpg All other representations in many other figurine ranges also use this model The pictures provided in the newsletter was not the official one. I believe Born of that abandonment was Morlas the Squirrel

Ranger bringing food (to the Ranger playing his harp) As a companion-piece to the Ranger at rest playing a harp, a standing figure looking down at his campsite companion and offering perhaps a roasted bird, skewered on his sword, or handing down a bowl of broth.

As I do remember the story, Thorin & Co lost their ponys and all the luggage at the "Invitation" to Goblin-Town under the Misty Mountains, they saw the last pony-tail disapearing in the gap in the cave, where they thought to have found shelter Yes, I suppose they could have had any instruments carried on the pony's (now there is an idea LOL)

but they brought musical instruments with them. I always wondered what happened to these instruments. While some of them travel quite well, some are, kind of, unwieldy in and under the mountain, or in the air: "viols as big as themselves". If Thorin does not win this month he can perhaps make a reappearnce in a double suggestion dec/jan with a "Goblin inspecting Thorins harp while digging through the luggage". Just now an image forms in my mind of a goblin inspecting one of these big viols. Or perhaps it is assume they left the instruments in Bree, to be fetched later or brought by relatives after their success. Dwarfs are nothing if not practically minded, and big viols somehow are not. Perhaps we just have to accept (like Bilbo being given a pair of boots at Rivendell, which are visible in the colour plate of the Eagle's eyrie - mentioned in 'Tolkien, Maker of Middle Earth') that Tolkien either genuinely forgot about the instruments which I believe was the case with including the boots, or conveniently forgot about them because as you rightly say Axel, some would be a bit unwieldy. Or maybe the dwarves simply left them at Bag-End or Bree (I can't recall if the instruments are mentioned later on). I did suggest Bilbo emptying his boots of water after the raft elf episode, but it was rejected by CT

A Conspiracy Unmasked Sing hey! For the bath at the close of day…..The travellers hung up their cloaks, and piled their packs on the floor. Merry led them down the passage and threw open a door at the far end. Firelight came out, and a puff of steam. ‘A bath!’ cried Pippin. ‘O blessed Meriadoc!’…..For this month’s suggestion I will submit one of the hobbits in a bath at the house in Crickhollow. On the floor would be a copper full of boiling water, as well as a matt and a towel (as described in the book). It would be nice if the towel could be on a small stool, but the floor would suffice. The hobbit would be lathering himself with his soap and a sponge/flannel. I’m not sure if this has been a past suggestion from another GF member, apologies if it has.Yes, it was me David, who suggested that theme once. But no hard feelings about that, glad to see that idea again here 😊👍 If it wins Harry we can share the honours 50-50

"Bob, ostler of the Prancing Poney"(Bob is the counterpart and friend of Nob who's serving in the taproom. He took care of the ponies of the hobbit company. At the moment, Bob has never been sculpted in the whole Mithril range. I imagine trying to lift a saddle in his hands, (which could be quite original, we never had any ostler before nor any saddle outside of a horseback in the whole range) This would make a nice companion-piece to our dear friend, Barliman's forthcoming figure

Ham' Gamgee Holding Forth at the Ivy Bush For October I will re-suggest Ham(fast) Gamgee AKA 'The Gaffer' holding Forth at the Ivy Bush. Although a single figure suggestion, imagine the wider scene of the Gaffer sitting back in his chair addressing his audience of Old Noakes, Daddy Twofoot, and the miller, Ted Sandyman as they discuss Bilbo Baggins. A mug of beer in one hand while the other (holding a pipe) points at his audience as if to emphasise a point. His (hairy) feet are stretched out before him (and crossed), he wears an open coat over his 'weskit' and a handkerchief flops out of a pocket. A walking cane could be leant against the chair. I believe there is only LR27 - Fatty Bolger and The Gaffer that currently depicts this character.

This month I would like to submit a special idea... I learned last week that our long time fellowship (and MMP) member, Ian "Barliman" Heath has passed away from cancer last february... he was 71... and a member of the mithril community and a die-hard collector since the beginning, long time supporter of Mithril, he had suggested several figurines and been active.... I would like to suggest a figurine to make a tribute to his memory... I Imagine him, as Barliman... his chosen avatar and character. He would be relieved, but exhausted Barliman at the end of the day, sat on a chair, with his apron and cap removed, cheering alone high with a mug of "scrumpy" in his hand to give a farewell… I would suggest to name the suggestion "Farewell Barliman"I personally will support this idea as a fitting tribute to 'an Old Friend' who I have never met, but was a great supporter of Mithril and the MMP 'Prancing Pony'. I hope that members of the forum will support this regardless of whether you knew Ian/Barli. It's the least us long-time patrons of The Pony can do. RIP Old Friend, may the pints you pull have rat's tails in them.

The Balrog at the Bridge of Khazad-DûmTroll-size Left hand: whip Right hand: sword The Entombed Balrog was, in my opinion, about the correct size of a Balrog - I am converting a spare into what you have suggested, but as this has been on the bench for a number of years, don't expect to see it finished anytime soon )

The Ensnaring of Saruman I had a thought to suggest a figure of Saruman holding aloft the Palantir of Orthanc whilst trying to avoid contact with the 'Lidless-Eye' within; this would be the moment when Saruman became ensnared by Sauron. The attachment kind of portrays what I had in mind, but should it be chosen I would imagine a bit more of a dramatic pose and with Saruman not facing the Palantir although his eyes would be drawn to it. Quite possibly his staff could be laying on the floor or even a small table or plinth included on which the Palantir rests (a cloth covering could be draped on the floor or plinth). I know Saruman has been produced before but I am thinking of the possibilities of adding more drama to a figure's pose that is possible with the 3D printing process. p.s. Obviously I have forgotten how to spell as the image title should read 'Ensnaring'

The three hunters: GimliOne of the iconic scenes in Tolkiens work - the abandonment of the quest in pursue of aid for a friend, and the remarkable feat of pursuing the Orks - is not yet made in miniature. So I start to suggest the most unlikely, and hardest challenged, hunter, Gimli, to go first. He should be depicted in light travelgear (using the equipment shown in the fellowship box), in a running or jogging pose - a feat he would have to keep up for hours and days. Unlike Aragorn or Legolas who likely will have their eyes on the ground to pick up any detail, Gimly will be just concerned with keeping up. PS: When I went to the site I originally planned to suggest the Old Took, but that would be too close to Ham Gamgee. Must be something in the air with old Hobbits :-) Funnily enough I was going to suggest Ted Sandyman originally LOL

Crouching Troll (turned to stone/petrified) Having received the excellent MZ705: SAMWISE GAMGEE™ with Petrified Troll, I was very impressed with the detail that the resin process has allowed, therefore, and for a bit of 'style' continuity, I would like to suggest the troll that was caught crouching. I do realise that this would also be a 're-do' of an existing figure (albeit petrified this time), but as some collectors have missed out on the original troll three-some maybe there would be some mileage in having them in stone-form.

The Happy Ent The idea behind this suggestion was for an Ent-Father, or Ent-Wife, in the happier days before the Entwives departed, to be proudly holding up a new member of their family in the form of an Enting. I am again ‘sailing close to the wind’ with putting this idea forward as a ‘single’ figure, but the accompanying painting is purely a concept idea (which I fancied painting in any case) based upon the ability to 3D print the figures, which does allow for some extra scope and flexibility.
Should Chris pass the suggestion I would envisage the Enting being a lot smaller/slimmer (I took my eye off the ball a bit), and more integral to the larger figure’s body to keep it more in-line with the single figure concept (much like the Treebeard and Hobbits figure), the Ent figure would obviously need to be simplified for practical reasons.
I would be more than happy for the suggestion to be ‘edited’ and put forward as a plain ‘Happy Ent’, maybe holding a jug of Ent-draught in one hand and pouring it into a bowl in the other – having seen the Sam and Troll figure, I would anticipate a very detailed Ent figure using new production techniques.

I am sure that it must have been announced somewhere that stocks were low, but it appears that the FotR boxed set is now out of stock; I guess this is both the new and the old versions . Fortunately I do have a set, but was looking at purchasing a second (remodelled set) as some of the figures are very adaptable for other projects. While it's only a minor thing for me and I can use other figures of the same character, I am surprised that of ALL the boxed sets this one has become unavailable/out of stock as for many LotR fans this surely must be a 'foundation' point for a collection of Mithril figures, as well as being the title of the first book of the trilogy. Are there any plans to re-stock or produce the same boxed set in resin?

Dúnedain Ranger at rest playing a harpAfter a long day’s work guarding the marches of the Shire a group of weary Rangers relax under the eaves of a wood. One of them laying atop an old fallen tree plays some songs of the Elder days and gently sings to his companions as they prepare their camp.
This figure would be resting upon a fallen tree-trunk, one leg resting upon an upturned bough. Behind his head his cloak is rolled to form a pillow and in his hand is a small harp. Ideally he would be smoking a long-stemmed pipe.
His boots are off as he rests his weary feet, but his sword, ever handy lays near to reach, resting on his belongings pack. A campfire is there with a small metal pot still bubbling away with either a stew, or a brew bubbling away.

Elven Ship-wright of Lindon As a companion-piece to the earlier Cirdan figure, (and Galdor too maybe if he isn't away at the Council of Elrond ), I am suggesting an Elven ship-wright for this month. My thoughts would have the figure leaning over a simple trestle bench of a design that wouldn't exceed 'allowances', and if feasible, he would be sawing a length of wood that will be used in the making of an elven ship. Clothing would be simple working attire, but he would have some form of carpenter's apron in which smaller tools of his trade would be stowed. Given the somewhat more flexible allowances of 3D printing, his hair could be hanging down over his face as he saws. As ever, final design practicalities would be down to Chris Tubb.

Since the crebain flock was rejected, I'll try to move to the opposite side... DEAD MAN blowing a HORN calling the deadmen to war although he seems to drag its weary gait, he's advancing while blowing his ancient horn to raise and gather the army of the dead to war I'm personally fond of Chris dead men, with their weary, painful and scarry expressions and their slow, dragged, but fatal step. We have a king, a captain, a standard bearer, troops... don't we need a musician? Not 100% sure (age and memory), but I may have suggested this previously and it won the vote and it's in the pipeline - if not, good luck, we can't get enough of the Dead p.s. check 'recent' winning suggestions Just checked - it was the winning suggestion for February 2022 . Pehaps a drummer?

Queen of the Dead I am a great fan of the Army of the Dead and would loved to have seen more figures in this range back in the day, so as an addition to the ranks of the Dead that we already have, my suggestion for this month is a Queen of the Dead. As far as I am aware there is no reference to a 'QOTD, however, on the assumption that the King of the Dead did have a Queen who I assume would also have carried on into the spirit-world after Isildur's curse, then maybe it's time for the Mithril King to finally have his queen (and I don't thing we have any female members of the 'Dead'). Design-wise, best left to CT, but possibly as a stand-alone figure wandering the halls, or one who may also have travelled with the Army of the Dead to Erech and beyond and even dressed as for battle (I guess there could have been other females amongst that host as well). IF at all possible, and incorporated within the single figure design, maybe a 'Dead' Princeling and/or even a Princess-ling clinging to her ragged skirts
