If the West Gate wins, are we certain the figurine will be possible to make this time ? It was already suggested back in November 2006 by Bombadil1963 but in the end it proved impossible to sculpt and produce (but back in the days, 3D was not there.. neither sculpt nor print) if it wins though I'd really wish it could tall and wide enough to fit a troll. as for the inscription I hope it could be realized using the canonical shape of the inscriptions made by Narvi and Celebrimbor and shown in the books. here is a copy tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Doors_of_Durin#/media/File:J.R.R._Tolkien_-_Doors_of_Durin.jpg All other representations in many other figurine ranges also use this model The pictures provided in the newsletter was not the official one.

(as a side note, the rarest range now is the M400-M600 range.... far much rare than even the M1-100)

Hello, I saw your offer on ebay and wanted to provide some insight here based on the average costs on ebay stats referenced on mithril.faerylands.net - sold individually - based on the stats - with the addition of 20% value for M1-M100 still in blister (this % does not apply on references above M100 as they are often sold in blister and the price stats take that into account) - with a malus for the M30 (average regular price is 28€ but here I counted it at 18€ because of the problem) all your listed collection would reach a price of 2310,72€ as per 2023 stats (not done yet for 2024). Now this is a price summed up if you sell them individually. As you intend to sell them as a bundle, I'd consider getting a lower price for the whole. So I'd say 2000€ would be a far more fitting price than 3000€ You have to consider that many rarities and "expensive" figurines belong to the M200-M300 range (Turin series, Vignettes, first Fellowhips and boxed sets) the M100-200 is rather common and lately there have been many M1-100 figurines sold on ebay to to old collections being sold (especially the Ian Heath collection lately...) I do not try to lower the prices as I am not personnaly interested I already own a double collection myself. But I am trying to be as precise as possible about the expertise when it comes to Mithril (and I made many with the help of Milo...) Hope this can be helpful. If you manage to sell it at 3000€ I'm happy for you but if it does not get a buyer, you'll have this info to resubmit it

Though I strongly support Halbarad's gate of Moria idea though I think it would be more fitting to a "mounted" or vignette month. (it would be illogical to have a west gate door same size or smaller than the "Mazarbul door" (M286) it has to be wide enough.
I'd like to suggest "Glorfindel at the council of Elrond"
(I noticed that we have almost everybody to make a Council of Elrond diorama but lacking this very character only represented so far on horseback or facing the witch king in the Salute 2007 promo vignette) We have Gloin, Galdor, Eerestor, ands lots of Boromir, Legolas, Aragorn, Bilbo, Frodo, Gandalf, Elrond
I imagine him in robes or in elven ceremonial outfit, like Celeborn or Amroth of Lorien with a cape as he is a high ranking officer and noble (and also sometimes considered a "sixth" Istari in some texts he his a warrior-wizard. the Gildor in robes would not be "noble" enough to be fitting Glorfindel according to me

"Bob, ostler of the Prancing Poney"
(Bob is the counterpart and friend of Nob who's serving in the taproom. He took care of the ponies of the hobbit company.
At the moment, Bob has never been sculpted in the whole Mithril range.
I imagine trying to lift a saddle in his hands, (which could be quite original, we never had any ostler before nor any saddle outside of a horseback in the whole range)

This month I would like to submit a special idea... I learned last week that our long time fellowship (and MMP) member, Ian "Barliman" Heath has passed away from cancer last february... he was 71... and a member of the mithril community and a die-hard collector since the beginning, long time supporter of Mithril, he had suggested several figurines and been active....
I would like to suggest a figurine to make a tribute to his memory... I Imagine him, as Barliman... his chosen avatar and character. He would be relieved, but exhausted Barliman at the end of the day, sat on a chair, with his apron and cap removed, cheering alone high with a mug of "scrumpy" in his hand to give a farewell… I would suggest to name the suggestion
"Farewell Barliman"

Grima, lackey of Sharkey
a representation of Grima, fallen from grace, following Sharkey in his travels to the Shire and before murdering him.
we lack a representation of Grima in this configuration. though we have Sharkey in a christmas figurine.

I suggest Finduilas of Dol Amroth
(She was the mother of Boromir and Faramir, wife of Denethor and also sister of prince Imrahil, she died young at the age of 38, some say because she was in sorrow longing for the sea she had left to marry Denethor and after her death Denethor became to change as he loved her deeply... )

I don't know if it could be covered by the licence, so please Michael could you investigate beforehand? :
Elros Tar-Minyatur (brother of Elrond... and first king of Numenor)
the name is mentionned in the appendices and is big knowledge even for LOTR only. I just dont know how much it is linked to the LOTR to be included in the licence (things are a bit complicated when it comes to appendices...)

This I understand very well, as I suppose many others will, too
But then maybe you can explain me why Chris himself did not know at all about the fact nothing had been released since August ? Actually he was astonished to learn this from me a week ago...
The problem with the fact of releasing a whole backlog early in the new year is that... by lack of products, many customers have spent their money on other stuff because it is Christmas, and well besides die hard collectors (and even for them) it will be hard on our purses to buy more than 6 or 7 figures altogether at the mithril regular price once they are released... that will be too much money to spend in a row
but I digress, definitly this is off topic and should be discussed elsewhere... sorry

Sorry to ask but I am perplex and I can't see the point of keeping on suggesting anything considering the backlog of production and the fact nothing has been released for 6 months... maybe not the right place to say that but I am really sceptical about doing that... we won't even have christmas release this year because of that

Aragorn as Thorongil
Thorongil was an alias taken by Aragorn in his youth (T.A. 2957-2980[1]), when he journeyed to Rohan and Gondor and performed services to their lords, respectively Thengel of Rohan (father of Theoden), and Echtelion of Gondor (father of Denethor)
I imagine him in a different garb than his regular ranger garb in which he is usually represented in the Mithril range, more like a mercenary or a soldier in armor and maybe a differant hair style as he was younger.

about the Necromancer servant, in the MERP RPG and CODA, there was a man, name the Grimburgoth, who was serving the Necromancer (or Khamul, the second Nazgul "easterling king", who was ruling in Dol Guldur later when Sauron was in Mordor) you can have the link there : notionclubarchives.fandom.com/wiki/Grimburgoth

Smeagol becoming Gollum
I had this idea pop up in my head, and I was thinking it has never been submitted before I think: After being chased by his own River tribe of hobbits, adter lurking in the dark because Light was beginning to hurt him, and just when he crawled and finally entered and lurked in the goblin caves and below to hide from the surface... Smeagol, still with some ragged clothes, and some samples of hair, half bent, hiding from the sun with one arm and grasping firmly "His Precious" on his chest (ragged shirt) in his other hand. The figurine would be a mix of the actual Gollum, and the only representation of Smeagol we have in the range on his boat: M83
I hope it finds some supporters, and that Chris likes the challenge, as it would really be a special one, even if quite small. (If it wins I leave Chris deciding how the base or surrounding could fit the drama of the scene)

I know the idea has been denied (Sauron enthroned) but I like it a lot for a next possibility... I understand it could not match a "mounted month" because in the "Mithril canon"/Chris style.. Sauron is oversized (almost 54mm, in a 32mm scale world)... this can be seen in the two Sauron miniatures that exists. So having him on a throne would require a 54mm size throne in addition to Sauron himself. that would make a really big figure... but I am surprised that Chris did not dismiss the idea as he has always said he would never represent Sauron this way in the past... as for the Angus Mc Bride , it is Sauron indeed, but as the Necromancer, not in Barad Dûr, as far as I remember , so this is not reallly a throne, but a Necromancer seat

I'd agree with you Halbarad, but I don't think it will ever win a vignette month, I submitted it several times already...
still since the first time it has been submitted, several of the other characters who could attend the wedding already exist in the range and it would be possibile to make a diorama with them all without the need to have them released at the same time as this dual suggestion

well I must say that is a very diplomatic and cryptic answer Michael I hope you'll allow myself to be more direct ? Is Chris still the person sculpting (even digitally) mithril figurines? I'll explain the reason of the question : Since Mithril has begun 3D-sculpting their new releases, I assume it would be perfectly possible for any capable 3D sculptor, using libraries of 3D "stylisized" templates filled by Chris in the last months and year, to produce whole ranges of figurines, keeping the old mithril style but the modelling being handled by softare upon a simple drawn concept art. It even accelerates the rates and logistics of conception & production. ahhh. technology is great, isn't it

I know I have it ... Actually I collect every figurine representation of Sauron there is also one standing gazing in the Palantir but at the moment I am quite afraid, it seems Belladona took the lead... and though the idea is great too, it would really be a pity to miss this opportunity of something such original

there is an existing throne for Sauron in the Citadel brand (ME61) but it really is ugly....

Post by Gildor on Feb 19, 2018 17:30:16 GMT
well, assuming Maiar are (at least) the size of trolls in the mithril range (see Balrog, Razarak and Sauron in his two versions) I assume the throne would be troll sized too... else it would be odd... But then it means it could be considered vignette and not single?
Well only Michaël, Chris and Mithril can say... if it is "human size" it would really be odd

Post by Gildor on Feb 18, 2018 23:07:42 GMT
well that's also why I voted for it but still this throne may be a vestige from the Second Age... any way I am voting for it as I'd really be curious to see an evil majestic throne...

|
|
Post by Gildor on Feb 18, 2018 11:10:49 GMT
Though I like the idea of a throne, it has never even been said there was a throne at all at Bard Dur (or Dol Guldur), what need of a physical throne for an entity that is immaterial, has no "court", nor any physical need to "sit" Melkor did have a throne in Angband has he had a court (see the passage of Luthien dancing before him) and also because he had been cursed to keep a physical form, Sauron had the opposite curse

the problem is that MS568 is at Sammath-Naur, which are the forges of Doom, at mount Orodruin... it is not Barad-Dur.. An anvil would have been more fitting than a throne . I doubt there is a throne at Mount Doom

I must admit i am astonished to see the Sauron's Throne got Chris approval as a suggestion, he has always refused to represent him this way. Maybe things have changed thanks to 3D sculpting?
but it's really a must have I think !!
