Well it was a tie between Beregond and Frodo this time, with the Lossoth hunter a close third. I was surprised that more votes were not received for this unusual month, which offered more than normal opportunities to express ideas. It certainly seems Trolls are popular. But the choice is yours afterall if you wish to interact with Mithril and your fellow collectors.
This vote is open, so you can see the state of the vote before you cast your vote. Remember EVERY vote counts. Your entry may tip the balance (as has been proven in the past numberous times.)
Don't be hesitant to post comments, it is still possible to sway people to support your idea above other concepts.

I am disapointed Frodo & Golum in cracks of Mount doom could not join final round... But it is true all Trolls were ahead this time. My vote goes to Beregond as no "white tree" warrior in a fighting pause exist yet in mithril range.

Well this is the Lossoth for me... we have no snow troll and only one lossoth in the range so far so that would be a good addition... I cannot vote for Frodo against Cave Troll sorry as it would not represent how things happened in the chamber of Mazarbul.. Legolas said there may be a cave troll but during the fight, no troll at all manifested itself... actually what Legolas took for troll may have been the Balrog himself...

Actually, it was Gandalf, not Legolas, who reported seeing "a great cave-troll ... or more than one" from the doorway of the Chamber of Mazarbul, and it was certainly a troll ("...a huge arm and shoulder, with a dark skin of greenish scales...") that tried to force the door open and got stabbed in the foot by Frodo. So Holger's suggestion is quite legit, I think. But I still prefer my own....

Well, I am all for the troll, though I also lean to the snowy folks this time.

true, my fault, it was Gandalf and not Legolas... still the toeless foot with greenish scales may indeed be a troll or not... as far as I can remember, this is the first time in the LoTR that the company or the hobbits meet orcs at all...nazgul and wraith before, but no orcs... nor trolls except the stone ones and if something was to be made with Frodo and a troll it would have to be a half closed door with a toeless foot in the opening, being stabbed by "Sting" though I indeed think that it could be ok but should fit with the already existing Mazarbul door

Can someone refresh my memory; does Beregond actually fight a Troll in front of the Black Gate in the books themselves?

Yes indeedy: "At Pippin's side Beregond was stunned and overborne, and he fell; and the great troll-chief that smote him down bent over him, reaching out a clutching claw; for these fell creatures would bite the throats of those that they threw down."

Having trolls in all three choices, might it be possible to have a troll showing Tolkien's descriptions of troll attributes (e.g. toeless and/or scaly hide) in a distinct manner?
Or do we have already one in the range with these attributes (I can't remember, but I'm not that of an expert here for sure)?

well as Chris Tubb mentionned himself, there is the matter of being true to tolkien writings as MUCH as possible, but there is also the matter of keeping a continuity in the mithril range for characters or "stereotypes" that have already been released in the past... Like the decision of having winged balrogs, or the decision of having 2nd Age battle armors done in plate full battle harness rather than chainmail for the 3rd age (the debate is elsewhere and would be out of topic here)
Cntinuity is important in a SAME range (here, the mithril range altogether), and I recently rediscovered that cave trolls seemed to be toeless from the LotR description, since there are already Cave Trolls in the mithril range, it would be hard to change its model dramatically now...

Thanks for clarifying that there have been none in this manner in the past and for the reminder of the range's priorities too. I should have thought of that... Best Tolwen

LOSSOTH HUNTER FIGHTING SNOW TROLL ! What a chance for building an extraordinary diorama! Thank you HWolf for that brilliant idea! As Gildor pointed out: we have NO snow-troll at all and it it would be interesting to see, how Mr. Tubb will realise this figure. Also - we have many trolls around and the difference would be less, I suppose. Sorry. So- let´s think about the price for a fellowship miniature and give a never-released figure a chance.
Let´s wait for WHAT "Troll-suggestion" David voted . . .

Isn't it interesting how some ppl promote the written word of Tolkien re Frodo was not fighting a troll, but on the other hand we have to stay in the range well as Chris Tubb mentionned himself, there is the matter of being true to tolkien writings as MUCH as possible, but there is also the matter of keeping a continuity in the mithril range for characters or "stereotypes" that have already been released in the past... No trolls with scales there for. That really makes sense.... NOT! Well, either or, but don't measure with two different rulers!

A Lossoth Hunter with Snow Troll is very interesting, I like anything Lossoth. But as Beregond Fighting the Troll is a real scene from the Books; and this is a special month where we get to have two opposing figures, I have voted for it. I only wish that Frodo and Gollum would have made it to the 2nd round of voting.

May the best troll win. or better the good guy fighting the troll. If you want to stay with the text, remember: Beregond was attacked by the troll which wanted to bite the mans throat he was saved by Pippin the Hobbit who stabbed the troll with the blade of Westernis. but that whould be another small figure involved in the scene But let it go on like it is, no time for counting peas.... lol Chris has been known to use discretion in the past I believe - a hobbit as part of the base ?

The troll fought Beregond until it laid him low, and it was only after that that Pippin became involved. Which part of the fight Chris might choose to represent, if this suggestion should win, would be entirely up to him. But at least this engagement is in the book! If it's a matter of "staying with the text", it needs to be pointed out in all fairness that Lossoth hunting trolls doesn't come from Tolkien's imagination at all. (Why would anyone hunt a troll in the first place? Does gravel taste that good?)

I will think next time better before writing here anthing or making suggestions that ARE NOT "TOLKIEN IMAGINATION" Offended? Not me (imagine a smiley face here - I refuse to use those awful things). It just seemed from what you said that it would be a good idea if I clarified things, so that anyone voting would understand exactly what they were voting for (i.e., no Pippin, just Beregond and the troll; no pea counting necessary). But I'm very glad that you like the winner!

look I found this little line:
"During the Long Winter of T.A. 2758 and 2759 lied upon the fields of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand clad himself in white and stalked the camps of the Dunlendings "like a snow-troll", and killed many with (seemingly) his bare hands. It remained a legend in Dunland, striking fear and hatred into any who heard it.
J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A, "The House of Eorl "
So what about there are no Snow-trolls in Tolkien Imagination? If even Dunlendings know about "Snow-trolls" they are middle earth creatures, aren't they?
Allright, I think we will be happy get a cool battle with brave Beregond and a new cool Mordor Troll chief, – all other things are future, maybe there will be a Snow-troll or not.

I think you may be suffering a translation problem here, since you seem to be misunderstanding what I say... I DIDN'T say that snow-trolls weren't from Tolkien's imagination; I said that LOSSOTH HUNTING TROLLS wasn't from Tolkien's imagination. And note that the one and only ref to "snow-trolls" that exists in any of his books is set in Rohan, not in the far north, and doesn't mention Lossoth at all. I hope that this clarifies things for you.
