Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. TWO per member.
Due to the Christmas holidays, we normally combine Dec and Jan together and have two ideas divided by a theme. Chris, our sculptur has suggested the following: The subject for the double month of December and January will be “East and West”. Choose two single figure subjects, one from the Far west of the Middle-earth map and one the from the East. The west comprises the elven coastline of the Ered Luin, through Erin Vorn to the far west of Gondor where the White mountains meet the Great sea and the kingdom keeps a watchful eye on the Belegaer. The East comprises the Iron hills, down through the great steppe-lands of the Sagath and Loggath to the sea of Rhun and thence southwards to mysterious Khand, the Ered Harmal and beyond.
The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligibility.
Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY:
IDEA TITLE CLEARLY define whether it falls under East or West.
"this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..."
Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion.
Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote.
Voting will begin on the 8th of January (first round). We stop taking suggestions on the 7th of January.
You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry).

WEST : Galdor, Cirdan Emissary (he is from the Grey Havens and as such from the western elven coasts...) Along with Erestor and Glorfindel, he was among the elves to attend to the Council of Elrond during the Lord of the Rings (and with now the release of Erestor, he is the only missing named elf to attend this council that could help build a Council of Elrond diorama)
EAST : Khamul as King of the Easterlings of Rhûn during his lifetime (before becoming a Nazgul) (well this suggestion is only valid IF mithril can use the name Khamul for its releases... as it seems all reference to Khamul as LR12 have been switched to "lieutenant of dol guldur" I suppose there is a licence problem with Tolkien Estate (as the name appears in the Unfinished Tales and may not be covered by the Middle Earth Enterprise Licences) IF this suggestion has to be dismissed can I suggest another of the "Easterling kings" or Variag Kings which became Nazgul (for example Uvatha Achef who is covered by the MEE licence as owner of the ICE creations...)

West: Gil-Galad the High King, first bearer of the elven ring Vilya. Gil-Galad, Noldorin Elf, son of Fingon, last High King of the Noldor in Middle-Earth. In the second Age Gil-Galad remained in Middle-Earth as lord of Lindon, fighting off Sauron during the dark Years of Numenor. I'd like to suggest this character in royal garment and crown, not in war gear or armour, just noble elf clothes like Thingol of Doriath
East: Variag standart bearer on foot, probably it will be a long slender banner with maybe the sun as emblem for the east, or no device to leave it for painting as we collectors like. The bearer is armed with a scimitar and wears a helmet fitting to the christmas figure > The Lord of Khand <

I see we have a month to think and choose what to suggest. So I will try not to be hasty this time.

WEST: VëanturMariner of Numenor. Vëantur was the Captain of the King's Ships during the reign of Tar-Elendil. He lived on the south side of the Firth of Romenna on Numenor's east coast. His house had a quay for docking boats and he travelled by water whenever possible. In 600 of the Second Age, Vëantur achieved the first voyage from Numenor to Middle-earth. His ship was the Entulesse, meaning "Return." He sailed to the Grey Havens and met Gil-galad, the High King of the Elves who lived in Lindon on the west coast of Middle-earth. A friendship and alliance began between the Men of Numenor and the Elves of Lindon. Vëantur also went to the Tower Hills and met with twelve representatives of the Men of Eriador. Veantur and his mariners were surprised to find that the Men of Eriador were not very different from themselves and that their languages had common elements. The Numenoreans had previously believed that the only Men remaining in Middle-earth were the descendants of Morgoth's evil servants. Vëantur remained in Middle-earth from the spring of 600 to the fall of 601, when he returned to Numenor. Afterwards Numenor became a great seafaring power and ships embarked on voyages of exploration and discovery. Vëantur had a daughter named Almarian who married Tar-Elendil's son Tar-Meneldur. Their son Aldarion was born in 700. Veantur taught his grandson about ships and sailing. In 725, Vëantur took Aldarion to Middle-earth in a ship named the Numerramar, or "West-wings." At the Grey Havens, Aldarion met Cirdan the Shipwright who instructed him in seamanship. Vëantur and Aldarion returned to Numenor in 727. Vëantur did not go to Sea again. He gave the Numerramar to Aldarion who became a great mariner before he succeeded Tar-Meneldur as King of Numenor. EAST: GrórDwarf of the Iron Hills. Gror was born in 2563 of the Third Age. He was the son of Dain I. His older brother Thror was the grandfather of Thorin Oakenshield. He also had an older brother named Fror. After his father and his brother Fror were slain by a Dragon in the Grey Mountains, Gror led many followers away to the Iron Hills and established a colony there in 2590. Gror's other brother Thror settled in the Lonely Mountain and there was traffic of ore between the two colonies. Gror's son was Nain and his grandson was Dain Ironfoot. Gror died in 2805.

I admit that Gil-Galad (or even Elendil) are interesting because the only versions we have are horse-mounted (and sat on a chair for Elendil) or inside the Sauron at Gorgoroth vignette.

Don´t forget, Master Gildor, the LR10 version, an excellent Gil Galad standing pose P.D. Why change the names of my suggestions? I've corrected it twice.... Attachments:

EAST: Furtive Blue Wizard
Are the Blue Wizards within the purview of the competition? Certainly, we've seen them before, but the first mention of the Ithryn Luin is definitely in Unfinished Tales. Maybe if we don't call them Alatar and Pallando (or Morinehtar and Rómestámo)? Inspired by the following image from ICE's ME:CCG, I was thinking of a Blue Wizard, bent a little at the waist, with both hands on either side of a hood, which he's pulling hood over his head. Why you ask? He's either 1) engaged in some clandestine operation against Sauron's agents in the East, or 2) he's ashamed that he's deviated from his mission, but feels himself too far gone to try and put things right. Either interpretation works and both fall within the scope of the adjective "furtive." Like I say, I know this one might be a stretch as far as the license, but I thought it might be worth suggesting. Surely I can't be the only one here fascinated by the Blue Wizards? WEST: Glóin, at the council of ElrondMithril has many Dwarves in armor and a few dressed for traveling, but none, at least as far as I recall, dressed in the day-to-day garb of a Dwarf-lord. Now, I'll be the first to argue that the Dwarves are a mighty (if diminutive) race of warriors, but to be sure they don't stand around all day armored up with axes drawn. To make up for suggesting a non-LOTR character above, I'd suggest Glóin, as he appeared at the Council of Elrond. Next to Frodo on his right sat a dwarf of important appearance, richly dressed. His beard, very long and forked, was white, nearly as white as the snow-white cloth of his garments. He wore a siliver belt, and round his neck hung a chain of silver and diamonds. Frodo stopped eating to look at him. -- FOTR The only change from the quotation that I'd suggest is to have him standing rather than sitting. After the Unexpected Party, I think we can check "Sitting Dwarves" off our lists.

West: BullRoarer on small horse with club in hand
Old Took's greatgranduncle Bullroarer was so huge (for a hobbit) that he could ride a horse. He charged the ranks of the goblins of Mount Gram in the Battle of the Green Fields, and knocked their king Gol-firnbul's head clean off with a wooden club. It sailed a hundred yards through the air and went down a rabbit hole, and in this way the battle was won and the game of Golf invented at the same moment.

Saw The Hobbit Movie today. Wow! Wow! Wow! What a great film! The actors who played the dwarves were wonderful, especially Ken Scott who plays Balin. He so looked the part in my opinion. The Orcs, likewise, were interesting to watch, being physically diverse, and with more speaking parts this time. I thought Manu Bennett as Azog was particularly wicked! Don’t know about that Great Goblin character though. He seemed almost comical to me and definitely a species unto himself. Radagast also seemed more like one of those crazy characters from the Harry Potter Films. Still, loved every minute of it and can’t wait for Part II! Makes me want to paint some miniatures!

EAST PIED SWANS form Ithilien (A long time since we got a animal) ;D
The Swan is on the ground wings wide open (6 feet)
Handsome aquatic birds, Pied Swans may be the most intelligent of herbivorous avians. They seem able to remember those who have harmed or helped them (at least for periods of several weeks), and there have been reports of pied Swans leading fog-lost travellers to high ground in marshes. Various rural and primitive peoples, such as the Marshmen of the Nindalf, revere these birds as being sacred to the Vala Yavanna. They are creamy white in color, liberally splotched and speckled with black and gray. Pied Swans are most commonly found in the Nindalf and along the shores of the Anduin in the relatively unspoiled areas of Ithilien.

There are already several such good suggestions here that I don't feel the need to add any more! Indeed, I want to vote for FOUR of the suggestions made, so why make my life more complicated than it already is?

So, I'll take up part of an earlier suggestion by me. No military types at all, but two unnamed civilians West:Arthadan farmerI imagine a farmer, leaning on his scythe, weary from work and wiping his sweaty brow with his sleeve. His shirt is open on the top to give some ventilation. Three sheaves of harvested grain are standing near him in a triplet. East:Dorwinadan (man from Dorwinion) winegrowerAs we already have the wine-merchant, it is time to also introduce the man from whence she got it. This is a hard-working man in typical outfit and with a winegrower-basket on his back, harvesting. His basket is about half-full. Perhaps a grapevine or two can be included from which he collects grapes. Cheers Tolwen

East Troll/orc at the Seige of Gondor holding a net of severed heads for loading into a seige catapult (you know the scene ). West Gondorian herald - doesn't necessarily have to be armoured, but one of the heralds proclaiming the Lords of the West marching towards the Black Gate. Herald blowing on a long trumpet.

Hello, friends I like almost all the suggestions, but maybe some of them deviate from the established locations suggested Michael for these two months : ´The west comprises the elven coastline of the Ered Luin, through Erin Vorn to the far west of Gondor where the White mountains meet the Great sea and the kingdom keeps a watchful eye on the Belegaer. The East comprises the Iron hills, down through the great steppe-lands of the Sagath and Loggath to the sea of Rhun and thence southwards to mysterious Khand, the Ered Harmal and beyond.`We can take it as a "game" to think suggestions of places not very named in the books ......
