Any rough ideas on how Gothmog might turn out?
The book mentions him as the Lietenant of Minas Morgul, probably the one in command of the nuts and bolts of administering the city and - more important lately - organizing the army. We know that the Nazgul are away often on other errants, and are probably not interested in the day to day work anyway. This means Gothmog is likely a mortal, not some kind of wraith or minor nazgul. He must be loyal, intelligent and - to some degree - trustworthy. My own money would be on a human, probably of Numenorean descend like the "mouth", though any other race or breed (even half or non-human) will fit, too.
He will probably be at the battle as the commander organizing the reinforcements and his responsibility is to send in exactly those troops that his master needs on the battlefield. Coordinating such diverse forces as on the Pelennor certainly is a demanding task only handed to the best. He will be mobile, which means a horse or similar steed - though not a fell beast for he needs to give orders. One of the black horses is imho the best bet. Unlike the Nazgul he will not be shrouded in fear, for contact with his subordinates is his daily bread.
When he is sculpted on horse, I would love to have the horse standing like a platform rather then moving, showing either the moment when he realizes the death of his master, or orders the next force into the fray (eg. the Haradan Mumakil). He will not usually fight himself, but have the trappings of a leader who is used to punish slow or unlucky subordinates. He will not be armed with shield and lance but rather with sword and whip. Messenger birds might be at his service, or some dogs to snack upon the unlucky bearer of bad news.
"Gothmog" is certainly one of the most elusive characters, and seeing his incarnation is bound to be both satisfying and dissatisfying at the same time, not unlike that of Sauron.
