Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. TWO per member. Due to it being Christmas and Mithril staff being on holiday we traditionally merge Jan and Dec months together into one vote, but you can suggest two ideas this month. Why not split them into 'Good Guy' and 'Bad Guy' ideas (optional). Then in January you will get to vote on two suggestions. These are single figure months, NO Mounted options will apply. Examples of past single figures include the King of the Dead and the Lossoth hunter. Due to the increased workload on Chris, he has asked that we accept only single figure suggestions for the rest of the year. I know it will disappoint some members but what is the point in winning the vote if the figures never get made and Chris is trying to work on general releases as well. The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligiability. Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY: IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..." Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion. Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote. Voting will begin on the 6th of January (first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 5th of January. You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry). If you have any questions then post in the other thread provided for such questions. GO TO GALLERY PAGE: www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.html

My idea represents two seperate figures, with a thematic link.
Theme: The Two Warriors
The first one:
Dunedain Warrior
A young - far too young - Dunedain warrior, clad in mail grips a two handed sword, looking up towards an unseen enemy, ready to die fighting for his king. He is young, handsome, his helm already discarded and his hair is wild and long. A once fine cloak is worn about his shoulders.
In my mind, he's standing at the gates of Fornost, facing final battle as the Witch King's hordes sweep into the old north capital, burning as they go.
But he's standing his ground and he will not die unavenged.
The second warrior is
Sindarin Warrior
Far to the west, Gondor and Cirdan's armies are marshalling - but it is too late for Fornost. But some of the Sindar have already gone to war. This is one.
He's tall and sinewy, beautiful as the sunset. Long hair, an unearthly calm face. His arrow has already been loosed. It's too late to draw again. Instead he has drawn his sword and is raising it to strike.
The Sindar warrior has elements of the LR Gildor and the LR Glorfindel, and M214. A long cloak, possibly fur lined. A fine tunic, leggings and boots. He's not mailed - rather he relies on his supernatural grace and preternatural archery to keep enemies at bay.
The two warriors stand together, the Dunedain not really aware of the otherworldly nature of the warrior beside him. All that matters is survival, and to keep fighting.
Obviously these figures could be used for other things - RPG characters to add to the MERP range - The Dunedain could be a dismounted knight of Dol Amroth; a warrior of Gondor, maybe even a Ranger of the North. The Sindarin Elf could be a Lorien or Mirkwood Elf in a Battle of Mirkwood or Battle of the Five Armies diorama.

1. Wormtongue, hunched and miserable, as he accompanies Sharkey on his journey into the Shire. A possible companion for the Christmas miniature
2. An Elven maiden that just stopped dancing through the meadows and woods because a mortal called her. This, of course, is Arwen at her first meeting with Aragorn. Perhaps Chris can manage to capture the very moment where he catches her attention.

I suggest two single figures.
1. The Lord of the Nazgûl attacking Eowyn(second figure)
2. Eowyn in defence position

My first figure suggestion is:
A soldier of Rohan blowing a horn. He has been ordered by Theoden to blow his horn to muster the men of Edoras to war. He would be standing blowing his horn up in the air and he would have a helm on and mail as well.
The other figure would be: Not sure yet. :/

I would like to suggest again that Gondorian king:
Tarannon Falastur
He was the 12th King of Gondor and first of the 'Ship-kings'. I think this could be a wonderful figure to complement the "Berúthiel-vignette".
let me quote please:
... and that King Tarannon had her sent set on a ship alone with her cats and set adrift in the sea before a north wind. The ship was last seen flying past Umbar under a sickle moon with a cat at the masthead and another as a figure-head on the prow. (The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A,I,ii and iv)
Now let me explain, please. So far we have a lot of Gondorian figures. But still there's no king. So why not give [tar'annon] a chance? The first "ship-king" of Gondor. Imagine him standing aboard one of his vessels ... contemplating the seas at Umbar or elsewhere.

My suggestions: 1. Celebrian, wife of Master Elrond Halfelven – of course – I do not loose hope to see her released... She could be also dancing in fine elven garments... Celebrian is an Elven noblewoman, the daughter of Celeborn and Galadriel, wife of Elrond, and mother of Elrohir, Elladan and Arwen. She was referred to as Lady of Rivendell. Her name means "silver queen" in Sindarin. 2. Propely sized, wealthy Wine Trader from Dorwinion offering a winecup and with a flagon in his other hand & a fat purse at his belt, Dorwinion people are still missing in the Mithril range. * * * * * PS: Happy Christmas-Time everyone!!! * * * * *

At last I had the idea for my second suggestion (the "bad one"):
Female orc
In spite of my poor knowledge about biology I can imagine that somewhere there must be female orcs. Though Mr Tolkien did not explain the existance of orcs explicitly (except the fact that many of them were bred somehow) I dare to suggest this figure. I have no idea about neither pose nor status of such a figure, but I can well imagine that Chis Tubb might find good ideas to realise such a figure. (In case he likes this idea at all)

My suggestions for these two months . The first, and I suggested a few months ago: OHTAR WITH THE SHARDS OF NARSILIt could represent Ohtar carrying above the coat of Isildur, as a tray, the Narsil´s fragments. Another idea is that Ohtar bear the fragments of the sword wrapped in a blanket and represents the moment at which the sample to those present at Rivendell. In any case he must be a type with proud bearing, as the squire of the king, while quite young. The second is new: AMDÍR, KING OF LORIENKing of Lothlorien in the Second Age. Amdir was a Sindarin Elf. Some Sindarin Elves from Beleriand moved eastward after their land was destroyed in the War of Wrath against Morgoth at the end of the First Age. Amdir may have been among them. According to one story, he became the leader of the people of Lothlorien, who were mostly Silvan Elves, or Wood-elves. Throughout the Second Age, Lothlorien was at peace, and few outsiders even knew of its existence. At some point, the Elves of Lothlorien encountered Galadriel, who was then living in Eregion on the other side of the Misty Mountains. She and her husband Celeborn may have come to live in Lothlorien for a short time after the fall of Eregion in 1697. In 3434, Amdir responded to a summons from Gil-galad to join the fight against Sauron in the War of the Last Alliance. Amdir's forces were valiant, but they were poorly equipped for battle. At the Battle of Dagorlad, they were cut off from their allies and were driven into the marshland west of the Black Gate. Amdir and more than half his troops were killed. The marshland became known as the Dead Marshes because of the corpses of Elves, Men, and Orcs who perished there. Amdir's son Amroth succeeded him as the King of Lothlorien. Unfinished Tales: "The History of Galadriel and Celeborn," p. 240, 243-44, 258The M-serie of the Last Alliance (M269-M278) lists all the great lords of the Alliance, except to Amdír, King of Lothlorien. Perhaps it is a good time to complete the serie

MAE GOVANNEN, friends
I think the restriction Chris needs to let all of our miniatures dreams come true is not a bad one. Single figures are not bad. I just hope, that single figures include mounted ones, as Chris' horseman (and wolfriders ;D ) are so beautifull and strong figures.
My suggestions this month (as no mounted Faramir, master of the Ithilien rangers is allowed):
DAWN AT THE PELENNOR:
[glow=red,2,300]Hirgon, Errand of Gondor [/glow](he MUST have the red arrow in his hand, with cloak, running)
[glow=red,2,300]Orc pillager with torch, burning the houses at the Pelennor. [/glow] Chris could try something "new" with his Orcs, as this guy could have a big pouch over his shoulder, maybe with visible heads of slain warriors. He should not be too warrior like, but more like a marauder.
I think both are quite nice figures for the "allies of gondor" range. I am not sure, but someone has some time ago suggested the Orc with torch and I just resuggested this great idea here.

I am not sure, but someone has some time ago suggested the Orc with torch and I just resuggested this great idea here. Where have you been, Estel? - I suggested an Orc with torch (for about the third time) only last month, and he came second in the final poll - didn't you notice him??? Still, I'm not unhappy to see him come up this time, since it means there'll be three figures I can support when it comes to voting - once I can decide what to suggest, that is! I think I need to give that a good deal more thought yet.

I will add comments in support later.

My other suggestion is: Haldir when he meets Frodo in Lothlorien
This is when Legolas, Frodo, and Sam climb the rope ladder to speak with the elves in the trees. Haldir would be in the fashion of elves and a cloak and also be holding a lamp to see Frodo.

I am too busy at the moment outside middle earth and merged anything else, than just Jan/Dec.......So we should take this as Barlis original suggestion. I wished it would be realized as Dec/Jan release. I liked this idea so much, that I saw the need to resuggest it. I also hope, that Barliman does not refuse now to let me visit his famous inn after that "trouble" . If you like, I can delete this suggestion, if not you have the chance to suggest "more" figures as you stated . NAMARIE estel

I've no problem with you suggesting this chap at all, Master Estel! I'll just be glad to see him win eventually...And you're welcome in the Pony any time - just watch out for the wargskin doormats (Master Theobald has had them cleaned, and they're a bit frisky at the moment).

Wow, great suggestions! Personally, I love the all-day-people a lot. So I will support the wine trader of Dorwinion by hwolf.
And on the other hand I wondered all the time what "breeding orcs" may mean? Although they seem to have been "created" out of the elder children of Illuvatar by the means of torture and mistreatment by Morgoth, they still are descending of the first-born! So, I guess, they needed the two genders like all of us to get multiplied. And: Isn´t it said that Bolg is "son" of Azog? With whom should he have ... to produce a son? With a bath-tub of mud? Like in the film-fiction of Peter Jackson? No! Not according the will of J.R.R.T., I believe!
So, Theobald´s suggestion is very new and kind of revolutionary! Like a squirell. I will support this as a bad "ma´am"!

Hello Bombadil, welcome "back" on board. Nice thoughts about multiplying. "Son" could just indicate, that a chieftain has adopted a younger Orc to be his heir. It is "typical Tolkien" not have described everything in detail, so we never ever will really know, where the Orcs come from, when they were bred. Maybe the Orcs need human females to breed? They often are described, taking human females as slaves and Orcs are the archetypes of evil creatures. Much speculation of Orc breeding . NAMARIE estel

For the record, JRRT does actually indicate in his post-LOTR jottings (I distinctly remember reading the passage, though I can't recall where! - somewhere in HOME maybe, or else quoted in one of Hammond and Scull's many books) that Orcs reproduced in exactly the same way as all the other peoples of Middle-earth. So 'son' means precisely that. As to breeding in slime, well, perhaps that was just the way they liked to, er, well, you know, um, ...unwind.
I may very well not actually suggest any figures of my own this month, since so many good ones have already been put forward, but I'm still thinking about it...very slowly (at an almost Ent-like pace, in fact).

Well! Well! Playing with words is so much fun! How many meanings may "having a son" have else? Haahaaaahaa!
But I´m glad that my memories are confirmed by Barliman!

Hi all,
As a new member, it's my first message here; my name is Lluís, I live at a small village close to Barcelona, in the Catalan county of Penedès -a beautiful land, plentiful of vineyards all around... As a consequence, I believe the Dorwinion merchant to be a great idea.
I love Theobald's suggestion about a female orc; I can imagine her trying to keep away a couple of impertinent children (children? cubs?) who are blatantly essaying to steal her meal... I've always imagined child orcs' life as an extremely rude, hard one; something similar to the extreme competition among some raptors' chicks, where the weakest is in the end finished off by its own brothers...

First of all, welcome Lluís. And thanks for your words about that female orc. Of course I would rather prefer to meet a Dorwinion wine merchant than some female orc, believe me. Did you ever paint those three Uruk-Hai imps (M97)?

Post by Axel on Dec 14, 2008 10:55:26 GMT
I remember the Uruk Hai Imps from the Mount Gundabad series... mithril.faerylands.net/display.php?reference=M97Back then in the MEPR-module "Gundabad" ICE also described the "daily life and upbringing" of Orcs, when my memory does not fail me, and it pretty much conforms to lluis expectations. Of course its not Tolkien who speaks here, but at least we already have Mithril Ork imps. An accompanying Orc female would be great. On the upbringing the Harn-series of Columbiagames is leaning heavily on Tolkiens background, and they assume that a) only a small percentage of the Orcs are female, b) only one (or few) of these are actually fertile and confined in a secure area (lets call it harem) and c) only the orc leader has access there, or grants access on his followers as a special favour. While Harn is far from Tolkien-canon, they make for a believable and Tolkien-compatible orc society. In short: great suggestion. I would love to see it done. Especially since I have some spare imps for a vignette :-) BTW: Welcome Iluis. Its always good do hear some new voices. Don`t hesitate to suggest your own ideas here, even when you already like those who are given. Its not really a competition between us fellowship-members but the process of discussing ideas that is the most fun.

Hi Lluis, and welcome. I agree with Axel--there are no bad ideas and many suggestions take a while to come to pass. Also, if something has been suggested in the past, and you like it, do not hesitate to suggest it in the future as we all share each others ideas and they do not belong to just one person. I have suggested the Dorwinion wine merchant in the past as a female character, but would be very happy to see it made in any gender. Even so, I made other suggestions so that we all have more choices in the voting. Also, there is a website that many members here use as a resource and place to discuss all things Tolkien in an informal manner: mmp.faerylands.net Stop by there if you haven't already.

Thanks to you all for a so warm welcome I'll try to do my best to get involved in this Fellowship dynamics, although I believe that I'd better first wait and see. With this, I mean that I'd think necessary for me to learn a lot of things before becoming fully active, such as those related to licenses and copyrights, for example --an issue far more complex than originally believed before joining the Fellowship, as it seems; nevertheless, I'll follow your suggestions and will gladly join your discussions from my humble point of view. True that I'd have voted not just for 2 minis, but for a lot of those suggested! I particularly love too hwolf's suggestion about Celebrian, or that one about the young dunadan and the elven warrior side by side, or jdbrown55's Haldir, or... er... all (ehem). It's also true that I already had my own ideas but, as told before, I'd rather like to wait and see what is on --sure that your previous discussions will result in lovely productions, and I'd like to contribute to these. Theobald, one of my first duties here will be to get updated about Mithril catalogue's releases in latest times. It was a lot of years ago when I first joined a former version of Fellowship (about 1993!!), and in the meanwhile Mithril ranges have expanded amazingly. I'm not sure to have ever noticed the existance of M97 - Uruk-hai imps. But sure that a lot of surprises else are still waiting to be unveiled here! I'll add mmp.faerylands.net to my bookmarks library, thanks for the notice!

The new URLs for these same site are now mithril.faerylands.eu (already operational as of today) and mmp.faerylands.eu (soon to be transfered) Pass the word around you
