Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member. This month's ideas CAN include a mounted figure but NO vignettes options. The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligiability. Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY: IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..." Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion. Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote. Voting will begin on the 13th of November (first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 12th. You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry). If you have any questions then post in the other thread provided for such questions. GO TO GALLERY PAGE: www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.html

AAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, mounted ones!!!
I thought at first a mounted Aragorn or another Dunedain of the Grey Company would suit best (or Boromir or Hirgon?), but I will suggest:
[glow=red,2,300]Faramir, captain of Gondor on horse[/glow]
I would like to leave it up to the GF-members and especially C.T. if Faramir should be realized in his ranger garb or in his armour as the son of the steward, which means heavy armour. I would prefer some kind of rearing horse, with a flowing in the wind- cloak, depicting Faramir as a hero, even in retreat from the Rammas and not as the 'poor boy' from the movies. I like the idea of a mounted knight as much a mounted ranger- mounted rangers are a rarety among figure companies!
This idea is outstanding, because there is need for many more Gondor characters ;D !
I like the chapter in the book, very much where Gondor defends against Saurons invasion and Faramir plays a key role in the conflict.

FRODO ON ASFALOTH
I would like to see Frodo on Glorfindel's horse - Asfaloth! When the hobbits, Strider and Glorfindel were ambushed by the Nazgul less than a mile from the Ford, Glorfindel bravely sent Frodo ahead on Asfaloth.
At first Frodo was reluctant, but then Glorfindel cried out to his own horse: noro lim, noro lim, Asfaloth! This means Ride on! Ride on!
This model should be a terrified, gravely ill Frodo desperately clutching Asfaloth's mane! The glorious pure white steed should be galloping at full speed, muscles rippling!
Magnificent!
PS: Should Frodo be also gripping his sword? Even though he drew his sword when he first got on the horse, I think he probably subsequently sheathed it during the chase: "Fear now filled all Frodo's mind. He thought no longer of his sword. No cry came from him. He shut his eyes and clung to the horse's mane."
So I wouldn't think it necessary to include the sword in his hand, but that is up to Mr. Tubbs' discretion!

GUTHLAFBanner-bearer of King Theoden. Guthlaf carried the banner of Rohan, a white horse on a green field. He accompanied King Theoden to the Battle of the Pelennor Fields on March 15, 3019. As the Rohirrim charged onto the field, Theoden used Guthlaf's horn to rally his Riders, and the horn broke from the force of his blast. Guthlaf followed his King and stayed near him. A chieftain of the Haradrim saw the King's banner and rode to attack, but Theoden slew him. But then the Lord of the Nazgul descended on the field mounted on a Fell Beast. Theoden was slain and Guthlaf was also killed. The banner was given to Eomer, the new king. The bodies of Guthlaf and the other slain Riders were set apart from their foes and their spears were planted around them until they could be removed from the battlefield. Guthlaf was buried in the Mounds of Mundburg with other Men of Rohan and Gondor who were slain in the battle. His name was remembered in song in Rohan. It would be interesting to represent a large banner (not in vain, it was the main banner, the king´s banner), riding and blowing the horn at a time. Incidentally, another new character named that remains ..... Regards!

I would submit this :
Aragorn on horse charging at Cirith Gorgor (figurine name could be : "The Last Charge")[/size]
(I imagine Aragorn, "soon-to-be-crowned" in Minas Tirith, in high-captain/regal armor gear from Gondor, on the back of his horse, rearing (like the theoden in M260) Anduril pointed at the ennemy coming from the gates of Morannon (Cirith Gorgor) in order to battle until Frodo and Sam manages to drop the ring in Mount Doom. This would be the "leading charge" of a "last chance" "they make us win, or we die trying" This would have to be a VERY charismatic piece as this is a call for the sacrifice of many... as there would be no turning back....
(I hope it will get some support...)
I have examples to provide if need be, but I suppose that anybody who's seen the movie can understand the description, except that I would not want a replica from the movie indeed.
It could be a great time to show Aragorn at the summit of his destiny...

Yes master Gildor, I would support this, if Faramir will not win anything as this is exactly one of the figures I have thought of.

I suggest an old chestnut - a slightly different take on a mounted figure:
Bombur and Bilbo's escape
In the dwarfs' mad escape from the Goblins in the Misty Mountains, Bilbo could not keep up so the dwarfs carried them on their backs in turn.
The relevant quote is of Bombur carrying Bilbo is:
"Why, O why did I ever bring a wretched little hobbit on a treasure hunt!" said poor Bombur, who was fat, and staggered along with the sweat dripping down his nose in his heat and terror.
I can imagine the look on Bombur's face.
(Yes, I know a Bombur on foot won a few months ago. I just like the idea, even if no one else might. ;D)

I was going to suggest Elfhelm again, as I have many times before, but I don't want to 'split' the Rohirrim vote, so I shall support Guthlaf instead - a fine suggestion! Actually, on reflection there are many other fine suggestions here too...

hi collector fellows
nice suggestions so far, this will be a hard race of mounted figures again.
My support will also go to Aragorn in front of the morannon gate, soon to be crowned King Elessar, for I am waiting for this figure sculpted by Chrís so long too.
Cheers and enjoy the colourful autumn landscapes.

As a respectful suggestion to Mr. Tubbs. If we end up voting for Aragorn, can we have a slightly more "wild" Aragorn? My observation, and I believe this opinion is shared by a few others, is that the prior Aragorn sculpts have had a very neat, tidy look to them. Perhaps longer hair, lankier limbs, and a more wild-eyed look might be nice.
Again - no disrespect to the awesome work of Mr. Tubbs - just a suggestion.

GRIMBOLD MOUNTED !!!!!! As the song Song of the Mounds of Mundburg sais in first strophe "We heard of the horns in the hills ringing, the swords shining in the South-kingdom" and on the end "Long now they sleepunder grass in Gondor by the Great River. Grey now as tears, gleaming silver, red then it rolled, roaring water: foam dyed with blood flamed at sunset; as beacons mountains burned at evening; red fell the dew in Rammas Echor. So I see GRIMBOLD MOUNTED to blow the horn, with his sword drawn, and shining armor that shines in the morning sun!

yup, so far the problem with aragorn has mainly been the fact he was clean shaven all the time and... his hair was always clean and all too well "combed"... I can hardly imagine how a ranger, in the wild can have time to shave and use a comb to have a perfect haircut! I complete my description by adding the fact Aragorn should be without helm and with free hair this time, middle-long maybe with movment in it... imagine this www.cbswords.com/images/9344.jpg but on a rearing horse... (and indeed... without any comparison to the NewLine movie)

>> imagine this www.cbswords.com/images/9344.jpg << No, please No! Aragorn has his own horse! Roheryn of the stables of Imladris, given by Lady Arwen to her Love. so it is an elven horse! brought by Halbarad from the north with the grey company. Not some wrong Rohirrim Horse from a movie... how hearttouching this is. How will you sculpt a few days beard? It's painting job fellows. And remember, Aragorn was at Minas Tirith before the ride to draw Saourons Eye away from the Ringbearer, Do you think he stays in the same manner after the battle on Pelennor fields? Free hair in the wind like Eorl the young is okay.

O.K. dear Madams and Sirs,
defending C.T.'s designs of Aragorn, Ranger of the North, I just can say, that you can get the effect of a dirty/messy men wandering through the wilderness with a nice paint job. I always paint Aragorn with a two-day-old beard: mix flesh colour paint with some small amounts of grey paint and then you get it. That Aragorn has a nice hair-cut is just because his hair is so messy, that it could easily be shaped up ;D

about the beard that can be achieved by painting... well, there is at least two days from Minas Tirith to Cirith Gorgor, it is said they camped once at least on their way there.
sorry about the horse master hwolf but I had no other picture by hand... indeed it was in my comment, it must not have the "new line touch" and we all know the rohirim horse wrongly named Arod after a rohirim king name... is a complete non-sence... nevertheless, if you can imagine the M260, with Aragorn instead of Theoden, with hair in the wind... that's what I want to see... somehow

The Chieftan of Harad Southward beyond the main road lay the main force of the Haradrim, and there their horsemen were gathered about the standard of their chieftan. And he looked out, and in the growing light he saw the banner of the king, and that it was far ahead of the battle with few men about it. Then he was filled with a red wrath and shouted aloud......... I see the Chieftan of the Haradrim on a great horse, standing in his stirrups, shield arm and sword arm flung out and head back in battle cry as he acknowledges Theoden's presence on the battlefield and calls his calvary to charge. My idea is not for the horse to be charging, but in the moment before, the chieftan's scimitar has jsut been drawn.

yes sorry Gildor
I did mention your line about "no new line touch" but please remember, for I know I am in advertising, most people are "Eye-People" : They react more on a visual effect than reading lines... So if you show the Movie Aragorn at Cirith Gorgor, people or new collector fellows may think he will look just like that.
And that is not what we love mithril minis for, isn't it?

[glow=red,2,300]Gandalf & Gwaihir[/glow]
IDEA: This has probably been suggested before, but I was thinking of Gandalf being rescued by Gwaihir for the second time, after the Wizard's epic battle with the Balrog atop Mount Celebdil in 3019.
IMAGE: On the shoulders of Gwaihir, Gandalf leans forward, his left hand is on the side of Gwaihir's neck. Gandalf is whispering something into the ear of the great eagle. Gwaihir's wings are set back, as he listens intently before taking to the air.
I thought a preflight pose for the eagle, where Gwaihir is on the ground, crouched slightly and leaning forward, as opposed to in flight, wings spread, might be more interesting. It might be easier to sculpt too.

I do fully agree: most Aragorns I know are similar to Barbie´s Ken! This is not the Strider in my personal mind! It`s not the picture in my inner eyes. Why were the hobbits afraid of him in the Prancing Pony? Just because he looked so smart and handsome, with tidy clothes? Karma for you, fellow!

Hey Hoo, ddaines, a dwarf on a horse?? No I was just kidding. I like the sketch as much as I like the idea of a Haradan king on horse ( to me he is not only a chief, but a great warrior king) and surely will support this, if Faramir will loose, as I am more than just fanatic about collecting Haradrim miniatures. It is interesting, how often Haradrim are suggested and win!
