Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member. This month's ideas is for single figures only, so no mounted or Vignettes (more than 2 people or a lot of furniture + two people) please. A mounted figure counts as two figures (horse/camel/warg/etc) The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligiability. Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY: IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..." Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion. Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote. Voting will begin on the 17th of August (first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 16th. You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry). If you have any questions then post in the other thread provided for such questions. GO TO GALLERY PAGE: www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.html

Here's a start: Faramir, Ranger of Ithilien
The concept: Faramir in an action pose, leading his rangers against the Southrons. (A rather nice fan image I found from The One Ring). I do like the extant Faramir figures, but we don't have any of the more action oriented versions in 32mm. (These being the LO26 and the 2004 Christmas special figures in 54mm) The above image is by Elizabeth Wyeth and more of her work can be found here: tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Category:Images_by_Elizabeth_Wyeth

I suggest Sam cooking the brace of coneys over a campfire. (Or alternately titled Sam, camp cook.)
I imagine Sam hovering, spoon in hand, over a pot and small fire (mostly coals), the coneys sitting nearby.

I think its time that we start adding some characters to the iconic Council, so I will once again forward Erestor at the Council of Elrondinto the fray. I imagine him sitting, rather then standing, and perhaps he can be designed with attached chair. He should be in a reflective pose, not unlike Rodins thinker (though not that deeply absent from human, or rather elven, interaction). Perhaps something along that line: thestewscope.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/thinker.jpgthough elvenized by Chris' skill :-) I think that Gloin and other characters (both named and generic) may follow over the next decade or two, once we actually start with it.

Perhaps this will be his month:
[glow=red,2,300]HIRGON, BEARER OF THE RED ARROW[/glow]
He should be sculpted on one knee, offering the Red Arrow to King Theoden.
"He was clad as a rider with a cloak of dark green over a coat of fine mail; on the front of his helm was wrought a small silver star. In his hand he bore a single arrow, black-feathered and barbed with steel, but the point was painted red."
"He sank on one knee and presented the arrow to Theoden. 'Hail Lord of the Rohirrim, friend of Gondor!' he said. 'Hirgon I am, errand-rider of Denethor, who brings you this token of war.'"
This is a very important part of the books, as Hirgon's arrival with the Red Arrow convinced King Theoden that Gandalf was right, and if Gondor fell so too would Rohan. At that very meeting Theoden promised that he himself would ride to Gondor with at least six thousand men, and bid Hirgon tell Denethor that he would come to Gondor within a week.
Here is another character who is mentioned by name and plays an important role in the story who Chris hasn't sculpted yet.

Hi all. My suggestion for this moth is BALDOR, Grandson of Eorl, at the Paths of the Dead.Baldor was the son and heir of Brego, and ventured into the Paths of the Dead, for never return. From LoTR Appendix B: "But none have ever ventured in to search its secrets, since Baldor, son of Brego, passed the Door and was never seen among men again. A rash vow he spoke, as he drained the horn at that feast which Brego made to hallow new-built Meduseld, and he came never to the high seat of which he was the heir." His remains were found possibly by Aragorn: "... Before him were the bones of a mighty man. He had been clad in mail, and still his harness lay there whole; for the cavern's air was as dry as dust, and his hauberk was gilded. His belt was of gold and garnets, and rich with gold was the helm upon his bony head face downward on the floor. He had fallen near the far wall of the cave, as now could be seen, and before him stood a stony door closed fast: his finger-bones were still clawing at the cracks. A notched and broken sword lay by him, as if he had hewn at the rock in his last despair." I imagine him as a Rohir nobleman, in a long chainmail, sword and shield raised, facing a unknow danger inside the Paths. Uploaded with ImageShack.usI hope you like the idea! Edit: Can you supply me with the link again and I will fix this image up: Michael.

I suggest:
"GOLLUM EATING A FISH ON A ROCK"
Why? Because i see lot of warriors, mages and hobbits too, all great works sure, but in my opinion Gollum, a really important part of the story, needs more space in the miniature world. I dont have any image to post but i think that is really simple to imagine Gollum with a big fish in his hands ;-)

Mauhur Orc Commander of Isengard I am following the trend of all previous postings this month an posting another named character. Named three times in The Two Towers (p.72,75,76) He led his band of fighters in an attempt to come to the rescue of Uglak and his band while they were surrounded. Instead he helped cause a distraction that allowed Merry and Pippin to escape. This sugestion has been made by me and by others before.

I suggest
GOLASGIL
captain of the men of the Anfalas and Langstrand, who led his contingent to the succour of Minas Tirith in the War of the Ring. Several of Gondor's other provincial commanders have been suggested over the past few months, but not this one.
I leave it entirely up to Chris regarding how he should look, except to note that he is described as better armed than the "scantily equipped" herdsmen, huntsmen and villagers that he led. I suspect that Chris already has some ideas of his own on that score, since a nice rendition of one of Golasgil's guardsmen was depicted in Tengwar magazine number 4 many ages ago.

Mirkwood Elven Hunter blowing HornOne silvan elf from the hunting party, which brought Thorin's Company to the halls of the Elvenking. the figure could be either a male or a female. He or she has a Bow in his/her left hand, a quiver with Arrows on the back and with the right hand he/she holds up a slender elven horn which he/she is blowing One foot rests on a rock or tree-stump like the elf girl M320 mithril.faerylands.eu/display.php?reference=M320I imagine a figure fitting to the mirkwood elven figures. A cloak or cape whould be nice And this figure could fit in the battle of five armies also! together with the Elvenking and his standard-bearer it will form the command group, my dear collector fellows ;o)

A wandering Noldo-elf
on a walkabout through Eriador/ the shire. Following his own songlines and paths through old Middle Earth. I have tried to describe the wandering elves several times without any success. For me . . . it´s a strong feeling . . . it´s like a walk in winter but in summertime or just the opposite . . . The wanderer is not yet curious to learn to know his world, he knows every stone, every tree, every brook. He is tired, sad, yet proud but even humble. I see him looking up to Elbereth and sing a song of old, so his mouth should be opened. No visible weapons, only little armour can be seen. He is a strong guy, more "mannish", broad shoulders, dark haired, but with grey-blue eyes (who can realize this in painting, hum?). Make him in this way that you can give him a companion later that lays one arm around his shoulder , please! This is a depressive picture, I know. But it belongs to Tolkien and Middle Earth and it´s history itself.

It's good to see some more drawings coming in. Thank you for the fine contribution Thanniel! I like your idea as well! Hmmm, I was considering re-submitting last month's idea, but I see my old friend Mauhur is back again. I don't like pitting orc against orc (even if good-intentioned Mauhur was an Isengarder). I'm all for unification; however, had Mordor been victorious, I wonder if Saruman's minions would have remained loyal to their wizard? If so, the inevitable battle between the Two Towers, though probably brief, would have been something to see! Let me think on this for a moment.

The Wild Kine of Araw A single, solitary beast shaped in the fasion of the ancient Auroch. As we all know this is where Boromir's horn came from ("Since Vorondi,l father of Mardil hunted the wild kine of Araw in the far fields of Rhûn.'" (Lord of the Rings V, 1)). I imagine a large horned bovine, shaggy hair around the chest/shoulders and with great horns standing proud and erect, with head turned slightly, ever alert as if he has sensed the approach of Vorondil (these horns could actually be larger than the horn depicted on Boromir figures as his horn may only have been the tip), . The image of the Monarch of the Glen painting by Landseer springs to mind

Prior to submitting Folca and the Boar of Everholt, I thought a watchful bull and a grazing cow would make a nice set. Unfortunately, I went with the boar, which was lost in the quagmire. I hope the kine fares better!

Ahhh- another fan of, well, let´s call them: Easterlings . . .
( are Variags Easterlings . . . not really, but for sure they are descendants- mongolian like)
And now certain people would say: Easterlings already do exist . . . but where? Sorry fulvio. You are a new member here. As a fan of those Easterlings too, I have to learn, that a m-release already exist, but is waiting for being released for more than 2 years . . . Frustating, isn´t it . . .

I am not particularly fan of the Easterling, that i suppose to include Variag, Asdriag, Sagat, etc., but i think that is very difficult to find in the books some generic subject not already produced that may be usefull not only to mere collectors, but also to RPG gamers. It seem to me that a generic Variag warrior advancing w/sword and shield may be very usefull as an oriental RPG caracter. (Sagat warrior and animist already exist)
Note also that the quality of the MS sculpt are slightly higher than those of the late production M series.

[glow=red,2,300]Goblin-Driver[/glow] Here we go again!
Description: One of several larger, ugly-looking goblins that captured Bilbo and the dwarves when they sought shelter in a cave in the Misty Mountains. He carries a length of chain equipped with shackles, and a whip hangs from his belt. A large, toothy grin spreads across his face, as he prepares to descend upon his captives with metal bonds.
“They all laughed and stamped and clapped their hands, when the dwarves (with poor little Bilbo at the back and nearest to the whips) came running in, while the goblin-drivers whooped and cracked their whips behind.”
"Who are these miserable persons?" said the Great Goblin. "Dwarves, and this!" said one of the drivers, pulling at Bilbo's chain so that he fell forward onto his knees.
“He is a liar, O truly tremendous one! said one of the drivers. “Several of our people were struck by lightning in the cave, when we invited these creatures to come below; and they are as dead as stones. Also he has not explained this!”

Goblin Driver is not a bad subject, but similar miniatures already exist: M94 and M334, however these pieces don't have the chains to hold prisoners.
