We need to see which suggestion is best so I can suggest it at our next meeting this Autumn with Chris. So vote NOW!

As much as I like the idea of the 3 Trolls, I reckon these could easily be adapted from existing pieces, so for my choice I would go for the 'Death of Boromir', with perhaps either Aragorn and Boromir doing the death scene bit, mounted on a resin base littered with dead orcs etc, or Boromir and the two Hobbits (and perhaps an orc) fighting/at bay. This could utilise the same base. Even better, like the Gildor & Black Rider vignettes, where the theme and the base are linked, have both!
Regards, Dave.

I would like to see these famous trolls directly out of "There and back again".
But as I mentioned in the comment to the new mithril series the new vignette should be a Corsair sailing ship, where you can easily put the figures as a crew!

Another idea occurs. The Fall of Sauron. Sauron need not be as proportionatly large as in the film, and the 'other' portrayal by GW. Chris has had over 20 years to ponder how a Sauron figurine should be portrayed, perhaps in mail/armour, tattered hauberk and cloak, hemet/crown laying at his feet. The pose one of an anguished being, smitten by the many wounds inflicted by Elendil, Gil-galad, Isildur, Elrond as they attack. Saurons features could be disfigured as if by the fire inside of him. Just a thought, we've seen the rest, let's see the best!

I would love to see the 3 Trolls from the Hobbit done next in a vignette, but after that, it might be interesting to come out with a vignette of the death of Boromir (with Aragorn beside him, and dead orcs on the ground), and come out with another vignette with the Pyre of Denethor (with an unconscious Faramir ontop of a pile of wood, a crazed Denethor, and possibly a concerned Pippin and/or Beregond). It would be interesting to have the fates of the two sons of Denethor depicted in two vignettes. I also think that it might be interesting to have a vignette depicting the rescue of Sam and Frodo from Mt. Doom. Have Sam and Frodo unconscious on a rocky base (with maybe a little bit of lova flowing past them) and have Gwaihir swooping down with Gandalf on his back. That is one of my favorite parts of the third book, and I think that it would make a great vignette, or even a box set!!!

* Glorfindel riding on its horse carring ill Frodo to Rivendel and 2 or more black riders chasing them
* Boromir's death
* Pippin "stealing" the palantir to Gandalf
* Frodo and Sam with tied Gollum
* Denethors dead

If a vignette is to be made next, how about Theoden fighting (defeating) the Black Serpent?
It fits in with the Oliphaunt as far as timing in the book, if he's going for a theme.
Or perhaps a vignette when Faramir "shows his quality" while talking with Frodo and Sam in the cave.

If the three trolls theme is chosen, it would be nice if they were posed so that they could be used outside of the vignette as well, perhaps in an army.

Well, the best thing will be doing all six proposals. But if I have to choose, here goes top 2: 1) THE DEATH OF BOROMIR. Gimli, Legolas, Boromir, 2 orcs, Sounds more like a box than a vignette
2) BILBO AND THE ARKENSTONE
And please. All dwarfs from the hobbit + Bilbo + Gandalf!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

All of the ideas in the newsletter are tops - I'd back Elrond reading the moon runes or Bilbo and the Arkenstone, but only by a hair over the rest .

No doubt, I choose the Death of Boromir, one of the most tragical scenes of the story.
It doesn't need many figures : a wounded Boromir lying against a tree or a stone, Aragorn sitting next to him, and a few dead orc bodies. Or : Boromir protecting the hobbits, fighting a couple of Orcs, and having his horn in one hand of course Or : Boromir and Frodo around the big stone or table, Boromir trying to take the Ring from Frodo Or : Boromir lying dead in a boat, his 3 fellows looking at him...mmm, doesn't sound very exciting...how about Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli running up a hill when they hear Boromirs horn ?

From the list, I would choose either Boromir's death, or bilbo and the arkenstone. I am surprised that the three trolls from the hobbit are not on the list for possible choices, because that seemed to have the most positive feedback from fans. (It got 11 votes, while the death of boromir only got 2). I would much rather see the three trolls done instead of just having Gandalf, Bilbo, Thorin and Gloin in the Trolls' cave.

My fav is Boromir's death from that selection.

Even the oliphant got 900g and with its 40 euro I don't think its to expensive . . . Before cancelling it maybe you can produce the trolls as a boxed set

Hello MB, I think the trolls have only 11 votes because it´s a little mistake in the voting system. If you vote the first time and push the voting -buttom at the end without to select any vignette, then the first vignette (the 3 trolls ) get the vote from you and you can´t change this later (also my mistake).

Before cancelling it maybe you can produce the trolls as a boxed set I didn't say we were cancelling it just that Chris had not added it to a proposal and I may have believed that the making of such a vignette might be expensive FOR US. The Mumak was no cakewalk - 8 moulds it takes to cast one Mumak. With 3 trolls and a group of dwarves and Bilbo it would certainly be a challenge. We have to see whether tha cost that goes into making such a vignette will be viable. As I said I will be interested in seeing that as a vignette. ...or even a boxed set. I always pictured these trolls being big ... bigger than usual perhaps ... but not monsterous in nature, a kind of ruffian troll look. Ragged hide clothes, pot bellies, that kind of thing. What do you think they should look like? Everyone offer an idea ... or even post a sketch. Lets see what vignette you visualise. Bilbo trying to pickpocket the troll would be a keeper.

O.K. was my fault I thought that a tripple troll vignette is to expensive for the collectors . . . I had natually no clou about developing and producing a figurines but I know that it isn't as easy as it seems to be . . .

Wow, Michael, the ideas you gave on the three troll vignette were great. I think that it should just be Bilbo and the three trolls around a campfire base, or something of that sort. Have the trolls standing next to eachother, almost like a half circle (maybe hunched over the fire so they are too tall), and have Bilbo coming up from behind ready to steal from them. I also agree that they should be slighty larger then other trolls, maybe the same hight of the Black Troll from the Pellenor fields set. have them wearing animal skins for clothing, and possibly some chainmail underneath. (On another note, I just got the mumak and scatha the worm box sets the other day, and they are amazing. Maybe if Mithril does a set on the appendices in the future, you could include a figure of Fram, the rohan king who slayed scatha).

I guess Trolls should be as all Trolls from the M range. It would be strange to change them now. But I am afraid we all have the image of the hugh trolls from the movie.
I will include some barrels and bones. I would like to see them seated around a campfire.
A box set maybe better for this

Regarding the Hobbit Trolls vignette, I think the 3 trolls should be huddled around the fire with a piece of meat roasting on a spit. Design wise, it might be easier if they were sitting on tree stumps or something rather than on the ground. There should be barrel(s) of ale nearby and three large mugs. One troll might have a mug in his hand or drinking. I trust Mr. Tubbs imagination as to what they would wear, but seeing as they are robbing trolls, they probably do not need much in the way of armor. One troll should be wiping his mouth with his sleeve or the back of his hand. Bilbo most definitely should be standing behind one reaching to a pocket that is bulged open. Oh, and a bunch of sacks sitting somewhere would be nice. ;D

A vignette I have been thinking of adapting from existing pieces was the passage from (i think) the council of Elrond, where Gloin tells of the Black Rider visiting Dain and giving his ultimatum to the Dwarves.
Perhaps this could be done as an official vignette with the Rider on horse, and with Dain, arms folded deep in thought as he ponders the 'request' from Sauron. Dain could be atop some steps or similar, looking down on the rider with an adviser and/or guard or two.
regards.

Another thought for a vignette would be that of the lighting of one of the Beacons. Perhaps 2-3 figures surrounding a suitably stacked pile of wood holding torches etc.
This was a stunning scene from the film, can Mithril do their own interpretation of this.
Regards.

WE are VERY wary of doing anything taken from the film, even an adaptation of the scene (an adaptation of an adaptation of the original). Although I have of course read the books I am not sure what was written about that event? Can you quote Tolkien's text here (a bit of it) and I can look it up. A large bonfire would be quite akward to make in metal. I agree it was very impressive in the film.

Hi Michael, i think the only real mention of this in 'great' detail is in Chapter 1, first page (Minas Tirith) of the RotK where Pippin is riding with Gandalf on Shadowfax and awakens and sees 'red fire', "what is that?", cried Pippin suddenly......" Gandalf replies " on, Shadowfax......." and points out to Pippin the war beacons of Gondor, and goes on to name them.
This is a short but sweet passage in the book, and doesn't actually describe the action of lighting the beacons themselves, so perhaps this would be acceptable and sufficiently distanced from the film issues.
As for practical aspects of reproducing this, my own thoughts were not necessarily of a huge bonfire, perhaps a more ornate casket type thing set upon a small(ish) rock cairn (not to dissimilar in size to the monument in the Cirion & Eorl Tengwar figure set), or perhaps it could it be made 'flat pack' style like the Mumakil war tower allowing for a slightly bigger structure. I suppose here we then probably moving out of the vignette scenario into box sets. Anyhow, it's just a thought.

Why not have a vignette on the streets of Gondor with either a mounted Prince Imrahil and knight of dol amroth on foot (walking behind Imrahil), or a mounted Forlong the Fat with a soldier of Lossarnach (walking behind Forlong), going past a standing Pippin and Bergil. This is the part of Return of the King where the two watch the allies of Gondor coming to the city's aid.

I'm reading ROTK at the mo', and thought that perhaps the presentation of the Red Arrow to Theoden would make a pretty good vignette, as would the meeting between Theoden, Eomer and Ghan-buri-Ghan. Another idea could be Frodo, Sam and Gollum at the Crossroads with the Statue of the fallen king. Just some ideas - keep up the good work team Mithril ;D

I can log in as you if you wish. Send me by private message your password and I will check it out. First I would suggest that you check to see if your security settings are blocking cookies from being saved on your computer. Also make sure you log in on the 'LOGIN PAGE' not just the little shortcut version, and tick 'ALWAYS LOGGED IN' (or similiar). I think it is a security issue as others seem to be able to log in fine. Firewalls, privacy tabs in IE, and other protections can block such cookies if set too high.
