Anyone have any suggestions on assembling Vengence of Smaug so he won't fall over? An aquaintance of mine bought it for his son, but he's ready to pitch it in the North Sea because it keeps falling over. He's no newbie to building figures, either. I'm the one that suggested it to him, so I'd like to be able to give him some suggestions. Thanks for any help.

Hi Wendy, This has been covered on MMP - Gildor had a similar question/problem with the same kit. He may have resolved it by now, but I think the secret is to pin the tail/body areas correctly and avoid the white metal from bending. I don't have the figure so haven't had to deal with it, although I did suggest having a blast of fire coming from his mouth which could be made from cotton wool hiding a length of metal rod that would rest on the shelf/ground work and act as a support . Not sure what thread it was on, but it wasn't that long ago. Dave.

So that's where it is. I vaguely remembered the discussion (and the blast of fire) and searched this site without any luck. Heh, wrong place. Thanks Dave.

Can you please tell me where your friend acquired the box set of Smaug. The older box sets had that problem but we have cast the more recent ones in Pewter and they are far stronger. If you send me his email (not in a post on the forum) and his name and postal address I can send him a replacement.
Due to the nature of the pose the dragon is a delicate one to balance, but the newer ones are better.

Thanks Michael. I don't know where he bought Smaug. I will pass the info on to him. I know the customer service at Mithril is top notch. On a positive note, he did like the quality of the piece, it's just the balance issues that has him frustrated.

ah now i am indeed very very interested!! I have not yet opened the one "other" smaug I bought to replace my "shattered" one... (I noted all your ideas but I had no time to work on it yet) I ti still sealed in the box unopened. I don't know if this one I bought again is among the new releases or still in the older ones... if there is a way to know it with the serial code or anything, I would be glad to know... As I am really really afraid to shatter my new one too
(I can assure than the first one I assembled was from the very first batch .. thus the old set... Because I bought it just after it was released)
I admit that this piece has always been very frustrating for me... Please could you let me know if there is a solution for me too Michael? I am ready to send back the unopened box I still have if it happens to be "an old set" (I bought it 4 or 5 years ago in south of France)

I am ready to send back the unopened box I still have if it happens to be "an old set" (I bought it 4 or 5 years ago in south of France) I think it might be an older version. These would have been cast with casting metal, so it would be softer than the pewter we now cast with. If you wish to return it then we can add a newer version with your next order. Please add your name, and details including why you are returning it, and mention my name as well so dispatch can verify. We will not refund postage however. We will post the newer version at no extra charge with your next order. Remember to pack it well so it does not get damaged in transit.
