Just caught a glimpse of this...
Can anyone say anything more about this release. I was a little underwhelmed by the Gondorian warriors I bought as part of the sale. Are these future releases similar?

I haven't hear anything yet about the new stuff, but I don't mind the earlier Gondorian warriors - they were definitely much more what I had in mind after reading the books, as opposed to the 'tin men' of the movie trilogy.

My issue with the Gondorians in the movie was that they'd basically gone from a perfectly happy Dark Ages English culture (The Anglo-Saxon inspired Rohirrim) to a late Medieval, War of the Roses era English culture for Gondor. By the time the war of the roses came along, such warriors weren't even using swords so much. The weapons of the period were glorified tin openers. Then guns came along in large numbers and that, as they say, was that.
I would personally prefer to see the Gondorians looking a LOT like the Rohirrim, only with finer looking armour, equipment and clothing. Possibly with a bit of a hint of the Romano-British to them.

I would also very much like to know more about thisupcoming release...? I understand there's not much that can be done picture-wise until the miliput figures are sculpted, but even a verbal description would be great. Personally, I feel that Chris developed a very excellent range of models concerning the Gondorian warriors. True, the officer was based on an Angus McBride work, but the regular foot soldiers are superb. I do agree that the M198 models are a tad more dynamic (and detailed) then the Pelenor Field models. I certainly have enough from the warbands sets (roughly 12 boxes) but would like to see more variety in the M ranges.

Thank you, aelfwine for the definition of armour - which is correct. - I think that all that was published about Gondorians in the Tengwar-newsletters by Chris was very much convincing. The pictures I have seen of the new series do impress me. And I think it is up to Chris to decide how to perform them. His ideas to visualize literature that closely in terms of miniatures according to Tolkien's works - are brilliant - and let's say, for several years. Continually perfect. So, who are we to tell an artist what to do and how to do it? (That's why I dislike the idea of the MX-series - though the first miniature was perfect - of course) Please, do not compare Mithril with GWS. Not even in terms of armour or even size (laughter). So, as a resume - let's Chris do his Gondorians, as he thinks of them, please. I am hopefully looking forward to them. Thank you, being that patient reading all this.
