We have being working very hard to give a face-lift to the Mithril website as it was showing it's age. What do you think,
Is it easier to navigate now?
Do you have any helpful suggestions?
Over the coming months we will be polishing it so we know there will be a few bugs to work out.

Half the links in your website do not work. I either get a 404 error or I get a "template not present" error. But no pages.

I assume that usage of this message forum would increase if it would be included in the nagivation list on the main page.
As for now, the message board can only be reached through the introduction-text on the front page.

Hello! This new Mithril site looks just fine! It's very elegant and I found the information I looked for easily. It's better than the old one, which was not a bad one. It's less scrolling with this new site, and I's looks so cool!

The site looks great! Clean and crisp! The sidebar is much improved and contains a great whealth of Tolkien related materials. Hurah! I am especially pleased with the creation of this message board. Many thanks to all of you at Mithril for providing a quality product in all aspects. Your labours are much appreciated and help to bring a greater joy to this life. Cheers.

I did put the Message board link in the lower side Menu under the Fan Painting & Modelling Link as well as on the bottom links on every page. The main 'Scroll' link bar is for the Primary links and that is reserved for the e-commerce part of the website. As for now, the message board can only be reached through the introduction-text on the front page.

>The main 'Scroll' link bar is for the Primary links and that is reserved for the e-commerce part of the website.
As it is the links are pretty hard to find. Just imho. If you know where to look and what to find its easy, but people won`t stumble into the forum by chance. Just imho, though.
You could probably expand the forum to get feedback and customer demand on planned series. Especially the latter should be interesting - perhaps this forum even supports polls. Just make a list of possible new series and create the one with the highest deamdn. If thats not "e-commerce"... A publisher I know offers pre-publication orders, ie possible products are put for sale and will be produced once a specific number of customers has ordered them. This might, however, not be possible given the production time for miniatures.
Two more points of critic: On my comp the links in the navigation bar (right and bottom) are hardly readable, for being medium grey on light grey. A darker shade for the text might enhance readability. On other monitors this might look just fine, though.
The final point is the "onmouse"-effect for links. The link is in italic, when I am over it its not. Both fonts have a different text-width on most comps, which makes the line "fizzling" when you move the mouse over it. Even though this might be intended, I highly dislike that effect, and think its unprofessional. Chances are that the designer has a standard font where the text-width is identical. I propose to simply use the inbuild underline for highlighting links.
Sorry if this looks kind of querulous. In my opinion some constructive critic brings more then a simple "well done", and if I would dislike the site I would not bother to start pointing out minor nuisances :-)

Thanks for the CommentsI will take on board all comments about the design of the site, and I appreciate this feedback. The forum is something I will push more as the site is still undergoing corrections and I will also take into account the grey links issue. Different moniters do play a part in altering the look of a website. Is there any others that agree with removing the italic effect of the text links?.

Some alterations have been made in regard to the menu on the left and the rollover issue of the grey text. I have altered the styles and hope that they are clearer to use and read. See, we do pay attention to your comments. ;D Keep up the good work fans.

Well, I am impressed !
Aside from producing first class miniatures (and I am playing with Prince-August miniatures since I was 10, around 26 years ago, so I know your stuff) you also do react on feedback. Not that this will make me buy more of you, since I am already on some kind of "autoship" mode ;D
The links are much better know, both the grey-tones and the Italic effect.

Eawsy to navigate but I really grew to like teh old black, red and white color scheme it used to have. It was almost trade mark Mithril.

Please expand your payment options with PayPal. It will be a great Help for customers from outside of Ireland! ;D

Paypal is a problem at the moment as we are based in Ireland and can't withdraw money from Paypal into an Irish account. So we can't really use any payment from our customers. Only the UK can do this. WE would love to do this and I contacted Paypal in Dublin (yes, our capital and yet the problem remains) to clarify the issue and it seems a lot of legal issues with banks and credit card companies. They do plan to fix this in the future.
WE do accept a wide range of payment options including credit cards so we do try to cover all events we can.

We tought the Paypal Europe news meant we could withdraw money but it does not seem to be the case. So no Paypal option for the time being. If anyone hears differently please inform me, I would be glad to be able to make paypal an extra option.

PayPal offers direct access to a bank account in Germany, and with the new EU laws bank transfers between Euro-countries should be cheap and fast. Perhaps if you can create a bank account in Germany and transfer the money from PayPal to you that way?
Well, that probably opens up a can of worms concerning taxes...

The new sight is well done. Easy navigation and colorful presentation. An archive list with photos of old mithril figures although ambitious, would be a great addition. No complaints though, excellent sight.

It would be a tax issue, and also more expense added. Paypal is already charging a high price for it's services, the banks would just add more, and more if we had to keep transfering funds from Germany over to Ireland. Paypal will come to Ireland, it is only a matter of time for the legalities to be sorted out with the credit card companies and Irish banks.

I have upgraded the navigation and general look of Mithril. What do you think? I removed the scroll menu and replaced it with better text links. Each page is like a sitemap. Very easy to find anything now. I replaced the top graphics to emphasis that we are a tolkien LOTR miniature site, including pics of some of our packaging and a painted figure. Also I removed the italic effect on the left menu text. The FULL product range is now accessible from every page.
More updates are planned.
NOTE: We can accept Paypal now so we will be adding that option soon.

I like the new design of the website. Especially having both a painted and an unpainter figure. It communicates well what Mithril does.
Regarding Paypal, would the buyer have the option of using Paypal or not? Would the fees be added on to individual purchases or would prices be raised in general? Just curious... Paypal is very convenient, but in some ways, I'm not a big fan. As a business model it's brilliant - they are the ultimate middle man, but I think their fees are a bit excessive.

Thanks for the comments on the website. Paypal is a useful medium but it does charge for its services. We will have to consider a small cover fee or percentage of the overall purchase to help offset this. I plan to try to add this option next week (Feb) so when you go to pay for your purchases you can choose to pay by paypal. Ebay sellers sometimes charge 5% to cover fees. It can be worth it for ease and speed of the purchase. Everything is instant. We can post the purchases next day, or even same day if it arrives early enough. What experience do you have in this regard? What do you think is the easiest way to use paypal via our site?. (Note: our site is not database driven so there is some restrictions to how we can automatically process paypal.)

Since I haven't had any problems ordering from you guys that a quick email couldn't solve, I probably would never use the Paypal option. (I can only speak for myself though.) Some people may not be comfortable giving their c.c. number and prefer an intermediary party. The customer service at Mithril is first rate (feel free to pass that on), and I've always been satisfied with the transaction so the trust is there. Also, being from the US, between the exchange rate and the possible added Paypal fees, it just isn't an attractive option. That's just me...
