Does anyone know or could tell us what the reference M463 is or shall be? --Thank you for your response and sincerely sorry if that question has already been previously asked...

That reference was originally for the Gate of Moria, which was cancelled due to its complexity and size. I hope to use it for a MX figure in the future. Otherwise it will remain a blank number.

MS 463 ... it should read as there is no M 463 ... but, alas not even an MS 463 ... though the idea of becoming it an MX has to be thought about ... but that's not me to decide nor believe ...

Ok, that is true that I forgot about that cancelled Gate of Moria. That is effectively sad , but I understand as well --Well, Let's hope that you could use that M 463 blank for any MS;MX, or even better perhaps any MB (why not?) sooner or later. It will be sad to have again a new blank number in the collection--Thank you for your fast response Michael.

Well, it would be cool, but also like Michael said, due to the complexity and size it could be more expensive than the usual MX rate for the one who want that piece to be re-done...But, it would be nice to def. have that piece in our collection someday-That for sure. Perhaps, we could start a list of people (offline or online) who would really like to see that miniature made. People who also would like to be partners for sharing the rate for such design (like it has or could have been done for the latest MXs) for trying to help Mithril to finish & release that cancelled miniature? What do you thing about this idea?---------------------- (By the way I used to live in Stuttgart)

Imho it would be prudent to give this number to the first incarnation of Narvi, creator of the gate :-) I am sure that sooner or later Narvi will show up in the Fellowship.
I would join the attempt to fund the gate ourself as a larger MX, IF we get a kind of timeframe and an outlook of how it will look. If we do that, we should include Narvi :-)

If we do that, we should include Narvi :-) But you are absolutly right axel!!! we should absolutely include the dwarf Narvi as well, which give me another idea that perhaps, could complete with the attempts gotten from Chris so far for realizing the Gate. Why not, instead to have the full plain gate, just representing the scene of Celebrimbor who is charging Narvi for lettering the gate during its conception. We could consequently add only a piece of the gate in construction (with some dwarves working on it) for the background of the scene (Which could prevent the size and complexity for the gate and certainly its commercial exploitation as well). Let me know axel & Teobald if you think that a cool idea or not. I also saw that bombadi1963 incuded Narvi & Celebrimbor in some wish list in another post of this forum, we should ask him if he thinks that it could be a nice idea to combine the all into a vignette or not (?)--Hope he read that post Also and consequently, before anything we have to know if such thing is realizable for Chris, and which are the shapes of the construction of the gate he has gotten so far...

:-)
I already fear the pricetag that Mithril may put upon a vignette including the gate, Narvi and Celebrimbor - given the price of a single Mithril. Anyway, its doubtfull that the idea will ever come into existence any other way, and it would be a waste not to proceed until we at least know the cost. If all fails, we can still sponsor Narvi alone for the gate-number either as a fellowship or MX miniature.

I wish that Michael could contact us for knowing the final price of such project. Michael if you read this, could you let us know a approx. price for the design of such project? Thank you

Hi everybody,
Yes, I really did suggest Narvi several times. Sometimes together with Celebrimbor, sometimes caught in action when he is carving stone. I would have enjoyed it a lot to see Narvi realized when the Gate was cancelled. But it was unfortunately solved in another way . . .
Perhaps we can have it as a boxed set? Or one could plan it as a collectible-boxed-set or vignette! With single figures that could be combined to a diorama or alternatively staying alone?

Thanks for your reply Bombadil1963, we are going to trying to see in we could not get it into an MX project for a vignette or something, I mean a Combo of the cancelled Gate with Narvi and Celebrimbor, but a MB could be a solution as well -- Only Depending of the price of such project- Like I wrote before we are going to post a request with a list of enroll. & partners who would like be part of this project. The more we will be the better it is. Let us know if you would like to be part of the project.

I admit that depending on the price of such a project, I would gladly contribute too , so keep me in touch if you will (but remember that Mithril said that there was no discussion possible on the making of the gate! it can't be done -technically- in pewter metal...) But i am ready to help co-finance a project of a MX box or vignette with Celebrimbor Narvi and the gate... in resin then since pewter can't be used... but I doubt Mithril will ever want to consider it... MX batches are even smaller than MS batches, it would cost too much for them

Well, we sure have to know first the price for such project & I also assumed in my perspective that resin would be used for the gate instead of pewter. (I consequently try to spoil my mind of a smart conception of the gate which could be a nice compromise for everyone.) (Only depending of the cost for such order of course…, although, I also would like that Mithril could consider seriously & objectively that Gold members project as realizable.) But, I shall contact you as well as Teobald; Axel & Bombadil1963 shortly this week with a draft for the post for calling for additional partners for that project. We only post that post not before we all agreed on that post, because we have already to consider that the more fellows could be implicated in that project, the less the cost shall be for each of us. So please, Michael if you read that post – please let us know what the price of such project could cost for a MX or a special and exceptional order for a MB (?) (Also if the price will be too high, another solution we could perhaps envisage is to considering the gate as a MX project in order to combining it with vignette Narvi & Celebrimbor as a MS or MV – that could limit the cost as well ( )) So far, if anyone read this and would like already joint us is more than welcome; please, just reply on this post to let us know and (I) or (we) shall contact you for the draft of the post as well.

We will not do a resin gate under any circumstance. However we could do the gate itself, without adornments if a figure or two were involved. Chris did not do this before as the gate would be essentially blank and it did not seem a valid piece by itself. This will be considered a MX project. Of course we are happy if collectors wish to pool their resources to pay for it. Splitting it up would not in my opinion be wise as there is no gaurantee that the figures involved would win, and the gate and figures would have to be made at the same time if they were to properly interact with each other. Also selling the MX gate by itself would not be economically wise, as it would basically be a blank door. When figures are involved we could at least add an interesting floor/base. When I have your sketch of your idea in an email I will forward it to Chris and see if he is open to the idea. If he refuses to do it then that is it. If the revised idea is OK by him then we can work from there. We may have to pass the idea via TE too as they have been more active of late and want us to submit all new figures for review. We must wait at least 14 days after submission before releasing a figure to sell. That is our contract.

Well, thank you very much Michael for considering our project, and I thank for your quick response. I am actually glad that you consider objectively this project and I sincerely I hope that Chris would accept it as well. I also understand and agree that the door itself will have been a bit odd for a miniature. I also comprehend your desire for not doing that gate in resin under any circumstance; I, however, try to think about something smart for including this piece or a part of it in the scene. Of course, that is not only my project and we are so far 4 to 5 (?) fellows to be involved in that project, and if any of them or someone else has already a sketch or some ideas and would like suggest you, please do it. I am already starting writing the draft of the post for asking more partners involved in that project, and I shall send it to Teobald, Axel, Gildor and Bombadil1963 this present week. Also and accordingly so far, if anyone reads that present post and would like to joint us immediately, he or she can already reply there to let us all know your intention and try to contact one of us via message. Like I said previously, the more fellows we have, the less the cost will be for each of us, and we are counting on you. I think that with the 20th anniversary of Mithril coming up in 2008, it could be a pleasant opportunity and excitant experience for a lot of Mithril fellowship members (incl. myself) to finally work together with our favorite sculptor

I think the use of resin (also if only for parts) will be no solution to shrink the costs. I'm sure Mr Tubb and Mithril would never consider this - at least I hope so. So far all (!) Mithril miniatures are metal figures (even the bigger ones as dragons or the Mûmak). That's why I'm completely against the use of resin.

Resin was already used once - for the base of the Witchking on the Pelennor vs. Eowyn and Merry. If its used for parts of the background Resin can have its advantages over metal. But of course you have to use it regularly to fully take advantage of it. The first couple of castings usually include learning costs, and we do not really need these for a one-time release.

Interestingly enough Axel my first Witch-King was with a resin cast base, but the second one I purchased the base was metal! I wonder why the change in material

Probably because the Resin had to be cast by someone else, while PA/Mithril can cast them in metal themself. Was there any notable difference in detail? I only own the original resin.
From my experience with resin and metal kits&minis resin usually offers better detail (and I do own some of the Thunderbolt Mountain minis who drown in detail). For most miniatures the difference, however, is not that important.

I remember the MB279 base in resin too, I don't have a metallic one.. Resin is very detailed, and has an advantage of lead, in some circumstances : it won't budge, it is d**n solid and resistant! (no bending, no smoothing of details over time due to bad manipulation, no easy breaking) for figurines it is not a good point but for bases, and background it can be... Still, I agree with theobald... using resin is expensive, and could be interesting only for mass releases. not for little batches like the MS not to mention MX releases.

Axel, I think if memory serves that the resin was probably sharper by the very nature of the material - you only have to look at resin larger scale figure to see this. And was lighter in weight ;D
