Despite the disruption caused by some members we had a good selection of new ideas this month. Chris was delighted with the list. Here is his comment on why he chose to leave out any: Unfortunately the Fell beast is too large for a single figure , especially straight after the Balrog. I have included the "Nameless thing" , but I will avoid straying too far into Cthulu territory if it wins! I see it more as a troll ancestor. ~ Chris Tubb. For reference you can see the sketch done for the Nameless thing in our GSF gallery. www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.htmlIf anyone wants to include images then please email them to me and I will add them alongside this one. Note: Please keep comments related to the thread. Hi-jacking threads will not be tolerated as it damages the enjoyment of the forum. If you have a question about the Fellowship that you wish to discuss with other members start a thread clearly defining that topic. If you have a question for ME, email me. I am not hard to contact as most of you know, I email you all every forthnight. If you email on a weekend then you must wait until I work again during the week. I do like my time off.

The interesting thing about the Nameless Thing in Moria is the conceptual freedom surrounding it. Whether you’re thinking huge insect, giant mole, or multi-limbed monstrosity, no one can say for sure what this thing truly looked like. I decided to draw the beast as a kind of subspecies of troll. However, I made this fellow a quadruped. The creature is crouched atop a boulder with several of its massive claws actually embedded into the rock. Two pairs of thick, whisker-like barbels hang from the sides of its mouth. It uses them for sensing/tasting food. Randomly placed spines and bumps cover its imposing frame. Keep in mind that Chris will ultimately decide what the Nameless Thing will look like. He may borrow certain aspects of the drawing or none at all. Everyone agrees that Chris is an incredibly talented artist. Since the actual guidelines for this creature are blurred, and the restrictions are few, he will undoubtedly fall back on his greatest strengths as an artist and create something truly A W E S O M E ! No doubt members will be surprised and pleased with the outcome!

A talented artist Grond, nice sketch.
I must of course go with the Ghost of the Dead Marshes - a swirling weed entwined apparition featuring aspects of Elf, orc and mannish warrior - looking 'fair' or 'foul' would of course be up to The Man.

The Troll Champion only lost by one vote last January. I will support it again.

I always pictured the nameless things gnawing the earth as giant worms; possible genetic stock for the first flightless dragons. Perhaps that is why dragons are sometimes referred to as worms. (or wyrms) I am supporting the Troll Champion this month.

I am intrigued by the "Nameless Thing", but I think that there is the risk of Tolkien Enterprises saying no to the idea, then we get nothing for the month. I will support one of the other ideas this month.

Thorin III Stonehelm against Troll Champion of the north.... could be strong fight between dwarf and troll... so who knows who will be stronger in this moment.... but is long way till the end of this round... also.... "nameless thing" could be source for all hidden sparks of creativity.... maybe we could organize Humanitarian Action for the sick and helpless people this month and donate 19,95 Euros for invisible figure as example of goodness in the fight against the unknown and miserable destinies.....

A few adjectives and some imagination can transform that which cannot be seen into something physical. The overall size of the piece depends on Chris' vision of the creature, and the cost shall be determined by the manufacturer. So, it could be expensive, or it might not be as bad as you think.

(or wyrms) I am supporting the Troll Champion this month. I like the way you think! I also considered the giant worm theory. All sorts of slimy, scaly things popped into my head. Even the colossal worms from DUNE came to mind. However, I figured something less grand would better suit the Mithril range of miniatures. That's why I decided to go with the hulking quadruped idea. Smaller and less costly.

Thank you David. I put it together rather quickly, as I knew I was in for an uphill battle. From where I stand now, I can just make out the Troll Champion's buttocks! Yikes! Toilet brush anyone? Although a picture is worth a thousand words, the idea that a sketch can propel an idea to certain victory is wishful thinking. Still, pictures can stimulate the creative thought process and encourage others to submit drawings of their own. Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Good luck with your suggestion!

I am supporting the "Nameless thing" this month, we have had nothing like it before and Chris can let his imagination run wild if he wishes. Kudo's to Grond.

A shame for the Feel beast but I understand Chris' choice. I go for the dead mashes ones then.
