German folklore is rich with them. How can you fight that? However, you'll forgive me if we don't give up the ship just yet. We still have our guns! As far as unfulfilled dreams and falling short of anyone's expectations, looks like we won't know for sure...at least not now. 51 votes so far! That's only three less than the previous 2nd round and at least three more than usual. And there's still three days left! Not bad!

Welcome back pteratom. I well remember the huge gap that my own kids left in my collection - I almost lost it, and it was a happy christmas some four years later when I was able to catch up with the actual releases in a huge order. I took me a week to assemble all of them :-)
But its worth it - the kids :-)
Grond, trolls are not part of the German folklore, and ghosts play only a minor role. We are good with dwarves, though - and, somehow, speaking animals are a recurring theme.

No trolls in German folklore??? Are you sure? Maybe Scandinavian folklore? Well, I know you have kobolds (not you personally), but I believe they are the German version of goblins right? Which reminds me, I need to go feed mine. Good thing I live near a park filled with homeless people. I'M KIDDING! Nothing but fresh organic meats for my beauties!

Lords of Light! 53 votes! The numbers are looking better all the time! This is GREAT! Can't quite seem to close the gap on Thorin though. If I could just get the Nameless Thing to hook an ear, it might be able to remove Thorin's head. Come on now! Gotta streeetch those arms out...spreeead those claws reeeal nasty like...BLAST IT!...just out of reach!

interesting reactions to just a few words of mine, in which i just stated, that the nameless thing is NOT unique for me. 1.) i did not want to offend anyone 2.) this was not meant to offend any gf personally so nothing against you personally grond! i like the statements of gildor very much, they express what i think about mithril completely, except, that i like orcs and so on but yes, elves and dwarves! and dunedain etc. would be better instead of rank and file. named orcish heroes are something different and very welcome to me. what is not really discussed, is that tolkiens had a strong sense of 'evil-doings' in the world and nameless thing gnawing at the roots of middle earth should just express, that morgoth's spirit is still in the world after his fall; so no real monster to be cast in lead is there, but men betraying, dwarfs being greedy and others struggeling with their own bad side. that is more poetic than just a horror monster down there. just some thoughts, no offending mentioned. if anyone wants to be upset or offended, let it be so.

Nameless Things refer to evil beings older than and outside of the control of Sauron.
Nameless Things were real beasts/monsters/ beings, according to Tolkien. He just didn't decsribe them in detail. They are not the "evil nature" of the humans, elves, dwarves, orcs, trolls, etc . . . . There is a strong element in Tolkiens writings about good and evil, but that is mainly referencing the of the control of Sauron over his servants, and Sauron's ability to cause the Free Peoples to distrust each other, and encourage them to be proud and impatient with each other.
So the question is: do we want Chris to give us his example of a Nameless Thing?
I voted for the Dwarf this time. But I would like to see a Nameless Thing according to Chris T's interpretation someday. Unless, of course, there are ideas to vote for that I like better :-)

56 votes? I hope all of these are genuine Fellowship-members.
On the "nameless thing"... It would certainly be a risk. With the elaborate description that Tolkien gave of these beasts, we are bound to have different (if any) ideas on how these should look. It may just be that Chris has a masterstroke and sculpts the incarnation of the "evil behind". As you might see, I do lack the words to describe what we can expect, and I fear that any real lump of metal, short of the work of a Michelangelo or Chris on a very good day, will fail to reflect that sublimal fear the words of Tolkien reflect. While the "nameless thing" has the chance to become a classic, chances are that it will become a fail, especially considering the size limitations.
The last time I REALLY got goosebumps when looking at a miniature is actually not so long ago (search for Kingdom of Death: Wet Nurse if you must, but make sure your kids are away from the screen), but that was one time in several years. How great are the chances for Mithril to create something that really unsettles you and oozes evil? I rather take a 100% chance for a great dwarven mini, then a 5% chance for - well - I am still not sure what to expect here. Perhaps Chris does has this stroke of genius and makes it anyway. If so, I will feel soundly humbled.
