Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member. This month's ideas is for single figures only, so no mounted miniatures or furniture please. The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligiability. Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY: IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..." Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion. Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote. Voting will begin on the 15th of April (first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 14th. You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry). If you have any questions then post in the other thread provided for such questions. GO TO GALLERY PAGE: www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.html

Tarannon Falastur
I think it's time for a king: The 12th King of Gondor and first of the 'Ship-kings'. Imho this could be a wonderful figure to complement the "Berúthiel-vignette".
let me quote please:
... and that King Tarannon had her sent set on a ship alone with her cats and set adrift in the sea before a north wind. The ship was last seen flying past Umbar under a sickle moon with a cat at the masthead and another as a figure-head on the prow. (The Lord of the Rings, Appendix A,I,ii and iv)
Now let me explain, please. So far we have a lot of Gondorian figures. But still there's no king. So why not give [tar'annon] a chance? The first "ship-king" of Gondor. Imagine him standing aboard one of his vessels ... contemplating the seas at Umbar or elsewhere. The figure might even fit well into those of collectors and diorama-builders who still are busy with painting all those Corsairs .... You might also mind the link between a GF-vignette and the GF-captain, even the GF-Cirdan could be linked here, as well as the regular Corsair releases. Let's have a new start with a Gondorian fleet.

Aragorn with hilt of broken Narsil
Aragorn at Imladris handing the hilt of broken Narsil at front of him at eyes level.
"The Shards of Narsil became one of the heirlooms of the Kings of Arnor Kings of Arnor, and after the Northern Kingdom was destroyed they remained an heirloom of the Rangers of the North"

Well, cheered by some interesting discussions in the last days I would like to pick up an old suggestion of Aelfwine: A wandering Noldo-elf He maybe a member of that group which met Sam and Frodo in the Shire but he even might be one of nameless others who liked to walk around Middle Earth in the starlight. In fact I have got an idea which was working really good with the three trolls: we might have a real group of wandering Noldor-elves if it works the same way. Imagine: some five or more Noldor in a kind of procession through the night! The mightiest children of Eru! Magically pictures of their own glorious past! Warriors they have been like none before and only a few after them! Craftsmen of the highest level ever reached (the Silmarilli, the Palantiri, great swords like Glamdring or Orcrist!), creators of new fonts! Now they are wearing a big load of sadness, wisdom, debt, feelings of loss, weariness and the heaviness of all these uncounted ages. The are still proud, strong and perilous but appear more introvert, secretive and "monkish"! They are wearing travelling-cloaks with hoods. The one which I have in my mind is the leader. He is facing some strangers, raising his right hand as a sign of greeting for those or as sign of warning for his mates. His hood is pushed back, so the "starlight" can shine upon his black hair! He is a strong guy with broad shoulders! If he should be armed his weapons are unvisible, only a glimpse of armour can be caught. Does anybody of you know the pictures of Victor Ambrus? He was one of the illustrators of that David Day "Bestiary" some decades ago. He has the picture of Noldor and other elves in his head that I share . . . Not those little Butterflies or androgynous type of guys! Warriors, hard elvish "men"!

Alas, I couldn't find any Victor Ambrus images of Noldorin warriors online (though I did find a lovely Galadriel) I am rather partial to this image by Jenny Dolfen though:

Hi Gavin,
I found the same pictures with google and even that of Galadriel. But then you know his style. It´s a pitty that there are no others. There is a picture of a group of Noldor passing by or the one with three warriors in the "Bestiary". These are great! But that black haired guy in the picture you posted comes near to the pictures in my mind. It´s a little bit like the style of Catherine Karina Chmiel (now added with "Gugulska"). She has some Noldorim in her collection, too. They should be a little more "mannish" and stronger but with fair faces.

Hmm. With other Noldo Elves already roaming about, I will not forward Erestor again. He certainly did not profit from the concurrence of a Sindar Bard last round.
Perhaps I will send another dwarf into the arena, but after Narvi, Bombur and the (unexpected) party they had a lucky streak lately. Well, another week to contemplate.

Hahaha! Very good and logical thoughts, Axel! Be sure: Elrond´s Council will be part of Mithril´s history one day! I am sure about this! By the way, a question to all of you: do you think that Glorfindel is the one from tale "The Fall of Gondolin" who killed that Balrog and died himself in that fight (and then sent back) or is he somebody who was born later? I think this is an important question because he surely is one of the members of the council! This may be discussed in a new thread if necessary . . .

Noticing that another company we don't mention is releasing a Duinhir figure next month has reminded me that he has never yet appeared in the Mithril range. In the absolute certainty that Mithril's own interpretation would be far superior, my suggestion is therefore
DUINHIR, CAPTAIN OF MORTHOND
...leader of the contingent of archers from the uplands of Morthond that participated in the defence of Minas Tirith and the Battle of the Pelennor Fields.
As regards his appearance, we are told virtually nothing about him, except that he is tall (JRRT's favourite word when it comes to describing his heroes!), though we can surmise that he was probably in his 40s or 50s, since he had two sons of fighting age. The absence of any further details would allow free rein to Chris's creative talents!

I am torn between Duinhir and the Noldor Elf.
considering, for example, the Other Company has released a new Duinhir model that is...not terribly good, a Mithril version would be most welcome.

I'd like to suggest Old Tom again:
TOM BOMBADIL with the ONE RING
From Lord of the Rings Book 1 "In the House of Tom Bombadil":
Tom Bombadil took the 4 Hobbits to his house after the rescue from old man willow While the talking by the fireside there was this breathtaking key scene when Tom Bombadíl asked Frodo to show him the One Ring, got it from the Hobbit held it before his eye, put it on his finger and DID NOT become invisible... Then he flung the Ring into the air, and the Ring vanished in a flash...
He is.
As Frodo got the Ring back, he was suspicious and put on the Ring to try, and the Hobbit became invisible... wasn't seen by his Hobbit fellows but he was seen by Tom Bombadil even so!...
I imagine Tom as single miniature standing with the Precious between his fingers holding it in front of his bright blue eye (paint job) or even on his little Finger, He should not be to slender, the fellowship miniature MS297 of Tom with the badgers is superb.
Cheers, Hwolf

Mauhur Orc Commander of Isengard Named three times in The Two Towers (p.72,75,76) He led his band of fighters in an attempt to come to the rescue of Uglak and his band while they were surrounded. Instead he helped cause a distraction that allowed Merry and Pippin to escape. This sugestion has been made by others before.

MORIA CAVE TROLL WITH SLAB OF STONE A Moria Cave troll from the chapter The Bridge of Khazard-Dum; as the Fellowship flee towards the bridge seemingly safe on the other side of a great fiery chasm........... ...Legolas turned and set an arrow to the string, though it was a long shot for his small bow. He drew, but his hand fell, and the arrow sliped to the ground. He gave a cry of dismay and fear. Two great trolls appeared; they bore great slabs of stone, and they flung them downto serve as gangways over the fire.......No real description needed, a troll and a slab of stone; whether the pose would look best with the stone raised above the trolls head or being carried in its arms I would leave to CT's discretion. This might be a useful troll to have for any collector wishing to make a diorama of Moria as the Balrog is about to appear, or it could be used for general purposes as an 'attack' troll in another battle situation.

[glow=red,2,300]Armored Barrow-wight[/glow]Background: Barrow-wights originated from the Witch-kingdom of Angmar. They were terrible and tortured spirits, whose bodies had been destroyed in battle. Fleeing the light of the Sun, they searched the lands for new bodies to inhabit. Some eventually settled in the sacred burial grounds, located West of the Brandywine River beyond the Old Forest. Description: I submitted a drawing that shows how I imagine this character to look. Unlike other Barrow-wights, he is not robed and floating about. This one is fully armored and has both feet on the ground. In fact, his boots are covered with armor plating, with long pointed toes, not unlike what some Germanic Knights wore in medieval times. The dark spirit, whose body was destroyed ages ago, now inhabits the bones and armor of this ancient king. From the core of its weathered skull can be seen a luminous, cold light - the essence of the demon - who, in this version, wields a curved sword in his right hand and a large battered shield in his left. Its chain mail is worn and bits of steel plate rusted. A frail-looking creature perhaps but in appearance only. Its touch is like ice and its grip like the iron jaws of a trap! Note: This was not my original idea. I wanted to suggest something completely new and different. However, after checking with the higher-ups, I was told it would probably not meet with T.E. approval. Consequently, I toyed with another idea (always good to have a back-up btw) and changed it to the Ghost King, which I've been reminded, thanks to the thoughtfulness of another member, ALREADY EXISTS! So, I am scrambling with a scrambled brain to meet the deadline! Armored Barrow-wight? Oh, boy, this has all the appeal of a wet napkin!

Pippen holding the Palantir
"Pippen sat with his knees drawn up and the ball between them. He bent low over it, looking like a greedy child stooping over a bowl of food , in a corner away from others.".......
......"Closer and closer he bent, and then came rigid; his lips moved soundlessly for a while. Then with a strangled cry he fell back and lay still."

Húrin the Tall - Warden of the Keys of Minas Tirith Short description: An important officer of the city of Minas Tirith during the War of the Ring, who fought in the Battle of the Pelennor Fields. After the death of Denethor, with Faramir incapacitated in the Houses of Healing, and Aragorn not yet proclaimed King, the command of the city fell to Húrin for a short time. After the ultimate defeat of Sauron, Húrin officiated at Aragorn's coronation, and it was he who granted entry to the city for the newly crowned King Elessar. Figure looks like : Stands with a drawn sword on the highest tower of Minas Tirith with the cloak fluttering in the wind. Something between the figures M273 Cirdan and M239 Orodreth... it may turn out great figureeeeeeee

As some characters are suggested again and again by different members, I would like to throw in something another GF has once suggested to stay in line with the idea of having one day all main characters of the provinces of Gondor (if it will not be possible to have them in a box set or as normal 'M"):
[glow=red,2,300]Angbor, the fearless[/glow]
Angbor stood and fought against the corsairs desperatly, when Aragorn came and saved the day defeating the corsairs and catching their ships to aid Minas Tirith in the battle of the Pelennor.
This would be the chance to have an alternative to the ridiculous vision of another company- I believe, the MASTER will not cloth and armour him in a fantasy-highlander style.
The corsairs and their 'ancestry', the kinstrife and Thorongil are something I am very fascinated of. Funny: I was also of thinking about suggesting Pippin with Palantir as Hobbits are the main characters in Tolkiens epic and I like the way Chris is doing them.
