-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to another exciting chance to add your ideas and dreams to Mithril's LOTR miniatures. Post your suggestions here. ONE per member. This is an open month for suggestions. That includes vignettes and multi figure suggestions. This also means mounted figures and additional furniture. However this does not mean you have to suggest a vignette. A single figure is perfectly valid too. The only other restriction is that the figures MUST conform to our license, so NO Silmarillion based characters are allowed. They have to be in the Hobbit or LOTR books. The final say is ours and no arguement will be allowed. Ask if you are worried about its eligiability. Please submit ideas in the following format ONLY: IDEA TITLE "this is why I think 'Idea Title' is a good idea for this month..." Make the title stand out (within reason) and separate from any supportive text by a paragragh. This will prevent Chris accidently overlooking it when he compiles the voting list later on. Otherwise it could be mistaken as a comment not a new suggestion. Please add some quotes about where it is mentioned or give descriptions to promote your suggestion. Even add a picture or submit it to me to add to the gallery page. If you drum up support NOW, the you have a much better chance when it is time to vote. Voting will begin on the 15th of February (first round). We stop taking suggestions at 16.00 GMT on the 14th. You may add comments about other members suggestions as well. If you post any suggestions elsewhere it may not be seen or credited. Please post any suggestions in English. (That is all I can respond in, sorry). If you have any questions then post in the other thread provided for such questions. GO TO GALLERY PAGE: www.mithril.ie/Fellowship/gallery.html

Post by Gildor on Feb 4, 2008 18:14:44 GMT
well I had this little idea of mine yesterday and I thought.. wow that could be a great figurine :
"The Flight of Gandalf"
Four times did Gandalf ride on Gwaihir's back. Three of them were a desperate escape (in The Hobbit in the "fifteen birds in five firtrees" chapter, in his escape from Orthanc , in his escape "naked and reborn" from Zirak Zigil to Lothlorien to be dressed in white by Galadriel), and the last one was for the rescuing of Frodo and Sam after the destruction of the One Ring
I clearly see Gandalf mounting Gwaihir, with his wings open wide, Gandalf robe, cloak and beard would face the wind effect. He could have lost his hat (which would reflect the emergency of the situation) Then he could be painted either gray or white depending on the purpose of the figurine (rescuing Frodon or fleeing Orthanc or the Orcs) The whole figurine could stand on top of a metal rod fixed on a base, as was the case for M140.
Well it is a good occasion for an "open month" since such project could not be made on regular or even mounted months (I doubt eagles could be considered regular mounts) . I hope this idea will get quite some support... It could be a very beautiful figurine. (and it's quite some time since we had eagles in Mithril range anyway)

So you have made it come truth what was discussed in times of old, Gildor ;D
Quite nice idea!!
I would suggest (again):
mounted Knight of Arnor fighting Hillmen King[/color][/size]
I would prefer them as individual figures rather than a diorama, like the MS468 figures.

THE WANDERING COMPANY OF ERIADOR
"this is why I think 'The Wandering Company of Eriador' is a good idea for this month..."
Four Elves rest by a tree root in the Woodhall of the Shire. They are Noldorin Elves, tall and fair and most high, dressed in fine tunics and wearing long rich cloaks. They have thrown their hoods back, and they are enjoying the wind on their faces and the light of the stars in the heaven above. They stand in contemplation, and perhaps watchfulness.
"...the elves came down the lane towards the valley. They passed slowly, and the hobbits could see starlight shimmering on their hair, and in their eyes. They bore no lights, yet as they walked, a shimmer, like the light of the moon above the rim of the hills before it rises, seemed to fall about their feet."
- Fellowship of the Ring, Chapter 3
One elf is a warrior, perhaps a prince of Gondolin in the Elder Days. He has a long sword at his belt, barely seen under the cloak. Another is an Elf lady of one of the ancient Houses, wise and most stern. One if a guide, perhaps of a lesser house, wearing more travel worn close, armed with a bow, though the bow is held at rest. Another is a bard, and he looks the other way, always curious, always watching.
The diorama captures a moment of quiet mystery and magic in the shadows of the shire, an echo of a world that once was.
Such a diorama would go nicely with the Gildor Inglorion (MV373) and perhaps the Noldor Bard M448

THE EMBASSY OF KING ELESSAR Well here goes - an idea which could have two variants on the theme depending on which would prove to be most cost-effective. I will describe both scenes as I see them. I picture the King Elessar seated on his throne with his crown on and a drawn sword resting across his knee (could the throne from MC 20 be used to save tooling costs?) with a kneeling figure before him. The kneeling figure would be an embassy from any of the lands as described in the passage from The Steward and the King "In the days that followed his crowning the King sat on his throne in the Hall of the Kings and pronounced his judgements. And embassies came from many lands and peoples, from the East and the South, and from the borders of Mirkwood, and from Dunland in the West. And the King pardoned the Easterlings that had given themselves up......" My alternative thought on the same theme was for King Elessar standing in full mail with some form of battle -crown (?) before a kneeling emabassy. The scene is on campaign in the far-lands rather than in the Hall of Kings and instead of the throne perhaps a small stool similar to that in the Elendil release. Should Chris/Mithril like the concept then the choice of variant would naturally be down to Chris. Failing that there is a nice idea 'Winging' its way in from a certain Wandering Elf, that would get my vote

My suggestion is a different one. So many of the Bombur suggestions would involve a rather pricey vignette, so here a different thought. He's not as fat as he would have been in the other suggestions, but I suggest: [glow=maroon,2,300]Bombur and Bilbo's escape[/glow]In the dwarfs' mad escape from the Goblins in the Misty Mountains, Bilbo could not keep up so the dwarfs carried them on their backs in turn. The relevant quote is of Bombur carrying Bilbo is: "Why, O why did I ever bring a wretched little hobbit on a treasure hunt!" said poor Bombur, who was fat, and staggered along with the sweat dripping down his nose in his heat and terror. I can imagine the look on Bombur's face.

Mae govannen, isn't anybody out there who wants to put again the great idea of a Haradan standard bearer (preferably on camel) in the forum as one did in the last suggestions- I have forgotten the name of that GF-member? It was a great idea, but as I did suggest something I cannot put another suggestion on the run. NAMARIE estel

Hi Estel, the Standard bearer suggestion was mine, but as I've submitted something else this time it is free for someone else to suggest. ;D

Once again I will submit:
[glow=red,2,300]Frodo, Gollum, and Samwise at the Cracks of Doom![/glow]
You all know the scene. It is the pivotal scene of the entire LOTR writings by Tolkien--the culmination of thousands of years of Middle-earth history!!!
I envision an oblong base that has a hump in the middle (maybe one-half inch high)with a slight ledge that overhangs one side. Gollum and the hobbits would be separate pieces, so diorama makers could construct this how they wanted.
For me, I see Gollum dancing on the edge of the ledge, ring held high; Frodo would be kneeling nearby, head down and holding his hands to his chest; Sam would be at the other end of the base, in a pose as sprinting toward Gollum and Frodo.
Being small creatures, this piece should be no more expensive than a mounted figure, maybe even less than some.
Lets have a depiction of this great scene in the works of JRR Tolkien!

I wish to see The Three Trolls from The Hobbit, years after that time when they became to stone. Here´s some little picture by Ted Nasmith to support my idea:

I would like to suggest an idea that has been brought up before by someone else, too, but with a new twist...
The funeral boat of Boromir
"Then I saw, or it seemed that I saw, a boat floating on the water, glimmernig grey, a small boat of a strange fashio with a high prow, and there was none to row or steer it. ... Then the boat turned towards me ... and floated slowly by within my hands reach, yet I durst not handle it. ... It was almost filled with clear water, ... and lapped in the water a warror lay asleep. A broken sword was on his knee. I saw many wounds on him. It was Boromir, my brother, dead. I knew his gear, his sword, his beloved face. one thing only I missed: his horn. One thing only I knew not: a fair belt, as it were of linked golden leaves, about his waist. Boromir, I cried. Wither goest thou? O Boromir! But he was gone. The boat turned into the stream and passed glimmering on into the night..."
I would love to see a recreation of the scene where the boat floats within arms reach of Faramir, taking this eery, dreamlike glimp of his brother on his final voyage to the sea.
This could be either a vignette with a sea-level model of the boat, and Faramir wading in the water up to his knees, or a full boat (certainly usefull for other vignettes or regular M releases of the company, too) and a standing Faramir (with feet) - where we could create the vignette ourself. While I would appreciate the latter, the former - the ready vignette - probably makes more sense since not all GF-members are keen on modelling.

the three trolls is a good idea though it may prove quite a huge vignette , a single troll is already quite expensive usually, now it is three of them + 4 hobbits + Aragorn.... that sounds rather a boxed set than a vignette...?

The three trolls was already once rejected due to its size directly after suggestion. Perhaps Mithril accepts the challenge this time, but if not its not because the idea came from Bombadil, (who seems to have a hand in pushing the limits of Mithril).
I definitely WANT the three trolls sooner or later, and if the idea gets Mithrils merits it will find my support (Boromir has to wait then for another semester). Given its popularity it would also make a great general M boxed release, but I rather pay double for a fellowship release then wait for that to happen.
