Well if the rumor is true I think it quite odd to release "officially numbered" figurines outside of any selling option. Not everybody can afford to go to London for this event (which is not especially mithril based I think) There should be at least a small amount of these available for sale Besides I would be very sad to miss such an occasion as the idea of Glorinfdel confronting The Witch King in a "realm of the north" serie was one of my recurent ideas (lately transformed into "noble elf in armor" for the purpose of the fellowship voting...) Please let us know if we can at least have some of them?
thanks for your answers anyways

not to mention, as I told, that a series involving elven personnalities in regal costumes, during the Council of Elrond could be used as Noldor elves too, (Glorfindel on foot, Erestor, Galdor maybe) After all, it is often believed that Glorfindel from the LOTR is the same as Glorfindel from Gondolin, thus the aspect of elves of this age is the same.
Same, if not even easier to convert some of the men from the whole mithril range to be some men of Legend like Beren or Tuor why not? (By chance, the Turin series is already covered so no problem with this one)

Eorl!

I really like the pose of Eorl actually, and the fact he is a "natural rider"... you will have noticed that there is no saddle no bridle and no reins! A "wide rider" which is exactly the case for these ancestral horse tamer... Beside if I remember well, Felarof could not have bridle nor reins, this horse was too wide for that

Well this picture represents Turin "Gorthol" apparently, It is the the Dragon Helm of Dor-Lomin represented by Nasmith... It rather looks like a mask rather than a helm but I suppose it is the vision of the artist...

using tarnished copper or bronze metal colors for the armor would fit well I think, as for the eyes well they are deep really deep, maybe you could imagine having them black with a flashy yellow or greenish spot in the bottom of eye socket... I would not use Redish glow for eyes, as... unlike many undead creatures... these ones are on the side of Good, not Evil... (even if they are rather neutral but bound to an oath... but using red would make them too evil oriented I think...
Besides this character was a real king in his life... He was the King of the White Mountains (Ered Nimrais) . These people lived there in the Second Age, they were not related to Numenorean civilization. So his clothes should show some remains of regal purple or blue but decayed, and some tarnished gold parts...

It seems that in the movie, the army of the deads was an army of ghost skeleton-warriors . It is not necessarily the case in the book. The glowing being the only way, I think, to represent them as "ghosts" rather than simple "undead corpses". Maybe adding some glow in the eyes or slightly on the thorax could be better, and leave the clothes and armour not glowing at all bt decayed. What do you think?

actually orange and red ones are quite similar, but indeed orange looks "antique" and directly imported from Middle-earth himself (Mithril Factory, 54th dwarf Avenue, third floor, 9731 Khazad-dhum, Middle-Earth LOL)
Seriously they are far more "fitting" for Mithril than the "Lord of the Rings" green ones which look like games workshop blisters actually (not exactly the same green, but it is sometimes hard to make the difference from afar

I just received the MX436 Troll and the MS439 King of the Dead, these are really superbly crafter but I also was gladly surprised to see the "come back" of the old-fashionned blister sheets (the red ones with middle-earth map on background) . Actually I have always liked this blister design rather than the new "Lord of the Rings" green ones, which let us think that Mithril is but a sub-brand of "Lord of the Rings"... I don't know what you think about it, but the red blisters are great, and make me feel nostalgic

Does that mean that the price of the MS gold fellowship releases depend on the number of fellowship members? (indeed that would be logical, since we are bond to buy at least 9/12 figurines a year)... I had never considered it that way ... but that's good news indeed As for 54mm figurines... Actually my proposition at first, was motivated by the lack of christmas figurines this year, which made me quite sad... but I am in no hurry of new figurines at all , I have no time to paint them at the rate they are released... but knowing there will be new 54mm to come, LATER, would be good news for me
(of course, I do not paint christmas figurines lol)

I remind you that the licence does not cover Silmarillion characters and also, in Tengwar 1, Chris has clearly said he did not want to represent Valar nor Sauron... (well finally he made a Sauron but that is the only representable Sauron he could make actually) But I agree with you : those 54mm should be personnalities, important ones (if possible, not already existing in this scale, mostly in the LO range) which have an interest in being made at this scale (I mean, requires quite a lot of details) characters such as Aragorn in king armor, or Elendil why not... king Dain in battle gear. Thranduil in regal costume or in armor . Glorfindel, missing in 54mm too... well, personnalities in anyway

well we could maybe at least then give suggestions for christmas figures? that would make one 54mm per year. (as a matter of fact, there has been no christmas 2005 figurine made yet.. Has the range of christmas figurines stopped?

I had an idea this afternoon when I was thinking about fellowship figurines, and also the fact that I miss some new, greatly detailed, 54mm figurines. And this lead me to this idea.
the project of making 54mm figurines for the fellowship has already been made, years ago, there has been only one reference released, MA1 : Galadriel (which is a remake of the 1992 christmas gift).
Considering that planning on such big figurines to be exclusive to the fellowship would be quite expensive, even compared to vignettes, my suggestion was to dedicate a month, every SIX months or so, to a 54mm (the same way we plan months for vignettes or months for singles) This figurine should be on foot and single (I don't even consider a 54mm mounted or in vignette that is a pure utopy considering the price it would cost) and in ordrer to "revive" a referencing system that already exists, the range could be the "MA" range, the MA1 already being made... (referencing system being one of my prefered topics... since I still work on this database project of mine)
I'd like comments from any of you, both members of the fellowship, but also Michael and Chris, on this idea, do you think it is a good idea? and possible?

I must agree on the fact that this Isildur is one of the best figurine ever made by Chris Tubb, in quality and details... Wish I could have a glimpse at the former ones from 1988-1992

I confirm
I have received bolg vs Beorn too. The arm of the orc on the ground is INDEED missing in mine too, maybe a problem in the packaging? what must we do to get the arm? (actually this arm is quite similar to Bolg shield arm, without the paulder.
Thanks for the info...

well obscure maybe, but there are dark series in mithril too.... Mount Gundabad is quite "evil", orcs of the red eye with the torture of Frodo and the scene of Shagrat and Gorbag.... and well after all, it is not totally "obscure"... even if the "good guys do not win this time"

Actually I was thinking about all those ideas of Arvedui, Arathorn, Glorfindel, Withcking on horse and crown, the lossoth and realm of the north.... well, of course there could be a regular "M series" of the "rangers of the north" but I think there would be a GREAT idea of a M Range. To go along the very early "range" of the armies of the witch-king of Angmar, why not "the Fall of Arnor" with all of these followings: - Arvedui in exile with the palantir - rescuing Lossoth (two figs) - the Witch-king AT Fornost, or at Carn-Dum (his citadel of Angmar) - Glorfindel in battle-gear (he was there and actually he was the one to make the prophecy that "Far off yet is his doom, and not by the hand of man will he fall") - Earnur about to pursue the Witch-King (stopped by Glorfindel) - Soldiers of Arnor, along with what would later become Rangers of the North (the sons of Arvedui)
this would make a great set with lots of missing figurines in the whole set, based on 3rd age and would satisfy quite a lot of Fellowship suggestions until now.
let me know your ideas , please
What do you think about it?

oh by the ways, as for being the one who suggested an idea or not... once it is won, well Chris Tubb contacts you when he has finished sculpting it to be the first to see the result but as for myself, I never had discussion about conception with Chris. it is not like the MX project. I won the vote two times so far (for Sauron and for Cirdan) and we never really discussed about it in mail at all

I think the idea of the rescue of king arvedui by the lossoth in a vignette is excellent actually. that would put a theme in addition to the "lossoth" idea . Now, why does it have to be in a sled? the sled is a problem for the cost no matter the size of the sled. it could be a meeting of Arvedui arriving among the lossoth tribe in search for help, two lossoth one standing one sat taking care of a firecamp and Arvedui speaking to them asking for their help, on a base made of snow... three characters , a campfire on the base... less expensive and quite interesting for dioramas... still a series of simple lossoth hunters would be welcome though, to build up a lossoth encampment around this campfire

Congrats to Herbert Lukaszewski the vignette looks great! I hope I will have finished mine soon. I painted Gil-Galad in a different way though. I re-read all the passages from the unfinished tales, Silm and LotR and managed to get some info . First, Gil-Galad appears to have a scabbard on the vignette but no sword in it, I suppose he lost it, maybe it could be added on the floor of the vignette in some way or another (any sword could do)... I have not been able to find back the name of his sword... Then, in a poem said by Sam on Weathertop : "...His sword was long, his lance was keen, his shining helm afar was seen; the countless stars of heaven's field were mirrored in his silver shield..." another comment from the Unfinished Tales says : "It is recorded that Ereinion was given the name Gil-galad "Star of Radiance" "because his helm and mail, and his shield overlaid with silver and set with a device of white stars, shone from afar like a star in sunlight or moonlight, and could be seen by Elvish eyes at a great distance if they stood upon a height." Which lead me to have the primary color of all Gil-Galad armor helm and shield painted in Pure Silver directly (not even steel), I will add other colors in effect, above.. That should make quite a contrast with Isildur armor which is less radiant. But at the end, i am confident in the fact it will be impressive

in fact he is 54mm, but 75mm is from bottom of base to high tip of sword edge but the figurine itself is 54mm tall (actually it is even 54mm scaled, made to fit the 32mm scale ) As for myself, I just bought the warforge casting kit to make elves Also, about Gil-Galad, just for info, his armor is to be flashy silver because the name "Gil-Galad" (Starshine) was given to him because the glow of his armor and shield is lined with pure silver (and not gold apparently) and he can be seen from afar glowing.. There is just a little "bug" I think : Gil-galad scabbard is empty, and he is carying Aeglos, and not his sword. Still the sword is not on the ground, maybe he has lost it earlier.

Not that I want to make free advertizing for Prince August products , but I checked the whole Prince August range and found out about the "fantasy armies supreme casting moulds" (32mm). For the moment the only moulds available seem to be.... elves, archers and infantry along with commander units (hornist, captains, standard-bearer. Indeed those elves have nothing to do with Tolkien stuff... (in the name of the product) but the style used for these ones is exactly the same one used for fighting elves made by Mithril and that could allow to make an elvish army that is currently missing in the mithril range... That was just a tought, I hope it helps

well numenorean armors and gondorian armors (and mostly shields) are quite different (karma helmet, stars on shield etc...) Also, elvish infantry in full armor has rarely been made, actually I don't think there has been any set of elvish infantry at all...
as for the book reference, it is only from Silm and LOTR... the details on the differents compositions of armies are from the Silm, near the end, after Akallabeth.
about size, I was amazed at the size of the base of Sauron figure... it is surely the biggest base ever made by Mithril after the boxed set of "the Lord of the Nazgul vs Eowyn" and it allows a lot of details about lava flowing from long cracks in the ground (after all, Orodruin is not far from there)

I just checked again the books, it appears that dwarves were on BOTH sides... there were dwarves in Sauron host too... but mainly, Durin Folk was WITH the Last Alliance. Also, it would be cool , actually very cool, to make some regular M serie figurines of elves, numenoreans, or even trolls or haradrim-easterling men to be able to make dioramas (or games, whatever) about the Last Alliance Battle. There has been many series allowing people to create scens for the Battles of Gondor (Pelenor Fields), the Battle of Mirkwood, the Battle of the Five Armies, the battle of Helm's Deep, but nothing special about the Last Alliance battle... The cubject is covered by the licence though I think... There was a "range" for the Last Alliance figurines but it was mainly personnalities and some footmen, but nothing important enough to make a battle-scene... Well, I'd like your opinion about it By the way, I just received my Sauron figurines... it is amazingly great!!!! I'm planning on painting it asap

Well one suggestion of diorama you can make though, is using a fighting Isildur, not far from there, along with some orcs and trolls of mordor (surely you won't have problem to find any who fit ) you can put numenorean forces (from last alliance series in duplicate numbers) along with battle of Mirkwood forces, leaded by Oropher (father of Thranduil, who's found in the Last Alliance series) and convert the Celeborn reference from (battle of Mirkwood) to an "Amdir" Character who was also leading elven forces (for info, Amdir was the father of Amroth, and friend of Oropher, Amdir, was at this time King of Lorien, Oropher & Amdir both died during the battle of the Last Alliance), also a fighting Cirdan & Elrond from the LR series (early ringbearers) . Now, THIS would make a wonderfull illustration of the battle of the last Alliance. Glorfindel along with Gildor may have been present too, but there is no proof of that... Tell me what you think about it

I don't remember the Nine being present at all during this battle.. I checked the books and could only find that the kings of men who became Nazgul did so around 1600 SA, and the first occurence of Nazgul is from SA 2250 or so... they were overthrown along with Sauron at the end of second age, and went into hiding until later in TA, when one of them conquered the realm of Angmar and was so-called Witch-King of Angmar. In Second Age they are said to have served Sauron from afar... but there is absolutly nothing that mentions them as being around during the battle of the Last Alliance.... and well, if that was so... I suppose they would have lead batallions, riding their fell beasts.... there was much to do during the battle, they probably could not have been around Sauron when he was defeated. They were linked to the ring, and the ring was not in peril when Sauron was thrown down by Elendil so they could not foresee the danger...well, in my opinion
