ok now so far, I have installed on a test server the forum, added its useful plugins, and its definitive styles and parsed all administration possibilities... only lacking integration within my own site, and I am done already!

well your offer is very generous Theobald, but that is not at all necessary (I have my appartement filled with mithril in every corner already lol really that's fine (On a second thought, there is a new MX scheduled? after Frumgar?? if so, I may be interested indeed) What I will DO need though, is an help of course, for the database filling. and with your help it could become far more detailed than it had ever been. I have begun my researches... I will create a brand new forum, either incorporated inside the "mithril faerylands" (if I can manage to code its fusion into it) or directly linked to it in another page. The type of forum will be a PunBB, the style used will try to match the colors of my site (green and gold... which reminds somehow the green blister cards of the late mithril releases, which have switched back to red/with ME map background LOL) you can have a sample of the style and skin here www.punbb.fr/styles/previsualisation/index.php?id=14 (indeed it will be english language in the end.. or french if there are some frenchies besides myself among us, I can even add german if some want! as interface language) that will be a true functionnal forum, unlike what MMP was, which means, more functionnalities, easier to manage and administrate and to find what you are looking for. I will handle overall administration but create accounts as moderators to those of you who are and have always been responsibles of sections in the late MMP. The first thing I will open is the Prancing Poney... there will be no more need to re-create topics in this kind of forum that is managed in archiving quite easily. As for the pics, I need "fan painted" photos to boost the galleries, as for Unique figurines Theo, except yourself and kenakko ones (if I manage to be in contact with him again ...) I may provide all others. I only miss 1989 and 1991 christmas figurines.... I even managed to find myself a 1988 Aragorn (old collector... treasure hunting... "a la Tomb Raider" , somehow) , and I have the Eowyn 1990 too, I can take pics of my own I will work on that very seriously this week end and in the upcoming week. Hopefully, the Prancing Poney (among others...) should be able to open its doors by the beginning of February. Anyway, I take it that my database engine and "figurine sheets" did please you all if you contacted me for this matter?...

well, What I'd just want to know is if there was any backup made or must we build it all from roots?
all the galleries.. all the reference databases... and most of all, all the forum!! is there no backup at all from any of you? even if it is slightly out of date? If there is nothing left.... well I can simply create and add a mailboard part on my site , as for the database we can use mine and fill it with any info we all can gather...
but please let me know if t here is any archive somewhere that I could work on? I will take over the project... and recreate the poney from there.... (if none of you has any objection against my domain name 'mithril faerylands' being different than MMP , the mailboard sub-section could still be entitled Many Mithril Pages

Hello people , I am sorry I was very busy lately and I did not take time to check this thread... I was surprised too about MMP blank screen... I am ready to house MMP on my own website , I have room for it (I think...) but what about all the forums? all the database? My own database engine is ready and as you know it is only lacking filling, we could rebuild MMP if you want... but it is meant to be a more advanced research engine than MMP was... I just may have to add a "average price" field, as it was not meant for that at first. But everything is possible, I have the technical knowledge for that I think... (i have a diskspace of 500mb and several databases on my site is it enough? ) please people feel free to contact me on my personnal address if you have idead and if I can be of any help, either by hosting, or by "melting MMP and my own site" into a single bigger one. all ideas welcome. you can contact me at gildor@wanadoo.fr for such matter No risk that I disappear... or that I forget to pay... I am hosting two running websites at the moment and I am very careful about it... I may just be busy sometimes and not showing up for a couple of weeks

ah now i am indeed very very interested!! I have not yet opened the one "other" smaug I bought to replace my "shattered" one... (I noted all your ideas but I had no time to work on it yet) I ti still sealed in the box unopened. I don't know if this one I bought again is among the new releases or still in the older ones... if there is a way to know it with the serial code or anything, I would be glad to know... As I am really really afraid to shatter my new one too
(I can assure than the first one I assembled was from the very first batch .. thus the old set... Because I bought it just after it was released)
I admit that this piece has always been very frustrating for me... Please could you let me know if there is a solution for me too Michael? I am ready to send back the unopened box I still have if it happens to be "an old set" (I bought it 4 or 5 years ago in south of France)

well i was only thinking of carving a channel in the tail and in the body, from the point where they are to be assembled, then I insert the rod in this channel at the same time I glue the body and tail together, not damaging the surface of neither tail or body.

the metal glue you are talking about is "Miliput"... It still exists but hard to find (exists in several colors, including metallic color) . In craftsmanship, they also use nowadays this king of two component mixing paste. when combined it becomes active you then can model it the way you want for several minutes before it hardens and becomes as hard as stone and resists a lot of pressure. I used that to fix my Smaug in the end actually but that requires a lot of it and put in strategic places, around the stalagmite before painting is a good idea....
With this method I have had no more problems of parts breaking, it is virtually unbreakable event if it falls on the ground... still... it is bending ,but never breaking...over time... lol Rather a balance problem on the fixing position of this tail and cancel the beinding of the tail/torso part.. the only way I think about is creating a big hard metal spine ( hard metal little clove or something like that), inside the torso/tail before gluing them, so that from inside, it can't bend since it has a rigid unbendable spine...
what do you think of this idea?

Hi evereybody, I am here to ask advice on the assembling of the MB345 "vengence of Smaug" boxed set.
I have had this figurine for years.... and for years I have been obliged to repair it... Finally I decided to buy another one as the old one was completly "out of order"
the fact is, the figurine can be glued perfectly and no parts drop or break but the corpse being bent forward on a quite tiny tail support on the base, and with the weight of the wings... years after years Smaug has bent over and over and down and down until he falls... head first forward... and break its nek and torn its wings by falling... I repaired, tried to bent it back... and months later, the same... bending, and falling forward...
There is no way to prevent that , the wings are so heavy that he would keep falling because the fixation on the base is too thin, Is there a way to prevent that so that the problem does not repeat with the new one I bought and not yet assembled? any technique would be appreciated (not requiring to maintain the wings hung by a support from above to remove weight pression)

well the base (that required fixing) used for the LR series would somehow prevent the idea that it is for wargaming at all... these are both rectangular and round in the center (the same used for the LT series but in the LT, the base was part of the figurine, in LR it was separate)
Could that be used? There is no way this base could be used for wargaming as it is quite impossible to calculate "precise" distance from a figurine to the other depending on the angle. (round in front and back, elongated and square in corners...)

well thank you wendy for this information, this is the information I was lacking... Now I do hope that this issue will be solved one way or another soon, Mithril is in its right and the offender (the CTSRN lol) would any way loose before a court on this case. that is blackmail of course since, if Mithril does not agree to desist in front of Tolkien Enterprise, since the CTSRN has a good friendship with them... TE would simply, I assume, remove the license for Tolkien products granted to Mithril...
A pity... franckly,.... no, I daresay it's a pityful behavior from them....

still my point is : where was it said or heard that these... guys... created problems and were blocking the releases of future mithril regulars? that was my main question. Apparently some people know something that is not public or that I haven't seen posted anywhere saying that there was currently an "issue" that blocks the release of future mithril.... I can understand that this other company may be mad with mithril or anything, they should franckly shut their mouths up as Mithril was making figurines based on LoTR before most of their sculptors, and directors, even cared to read the LoTR entirely...
but has the issue gone to court? tribunal? Tolkien enterprise licensing issue? Tolkien estate veto issue?

well I knew about these different kinds of bases.. and actually one of the reasons I prefer Mithril figurines is because they have a "pre-slotta base" which is sometimes even decorated with small rocks etc... I have never liked slotta bases, as I am a collector painter and not at all a wargamer. Now I can understand that's annoying for wargamers who love Mithril but still where is the legal issue? Since, actually, Mithril does not use slotta base, they have an argument to show lawyers that their figurines are not "designed" for wargaming and thus there is no concurence (if that's the problem) with GW... so why should there be a problem in releasing new figurines? unless Mithril had intended to change its format to "slotta base" which , by the way would ruin one of my pleasure in mithril...
As for putting mithril on plastic uniform bases, why not... you can still do it, ddaines uses this technique often for his diorama... as for "collecting" purpose, doing just that ruins the value of the figurine... as it would be considered a "broken" figurine.

I suggest we wait until the licence issues are solved and Michael will tell us everything I hope I think I will buy the box (special one, not collector one.. I am not that rich) providing this special edition is available everywhere, if not, I am sure Michael can lead us to a place where we could buy it for sure? let's wait and see

well mea culpa then, since I had not seen it in the first line Still, no need to buy the over-expensive collector edition to get the figurine, which is a good news... Now the question is : will there be only one figurine or a set of several, randomly inserted in all the boxes... (which would grandly complicate the collection of them all) Everquest had done the same at its launching in 1998... half a dozen figurines, randomly distributed in the collector boxes... it was almost impossible to get them all I hope it is not the same case here...

I wonder where you see that the figurine will be in the collector edition wendy.. in my link it is explicitly said that it won't... and the topic is actually discussed in the game's fans who prefer a version with or without the figurine (ie: the special or collector one)

here is the link for the official description of all the releases : www.lotro-europe.com/options.php?pagename=home#collectorsFrom what I see, the figurine will be in the "SPECIAL" Edition (which does not appear to be limited at all) but WILL NOT be in the "Collector" Edition which is limited in number, with some kind of lotery with gold rings to find, and infinite subscription. Don't make the mistake to order the "collector" version then, unless the info is bad (though I doubt it, since it is the official website) . the special edition should indeed be more expensive than the standard one but no way as expensive as the collector can be (more than 200$) Now all i need to know is if the special edition including the figurine will be released in France... Because if I need to order it in USA or UK i will have taxes to pay, which are as expensive as the game itself!! (trust me that's what happened when I bought Oblivion and BFME2 in the USA...)

can you at least confirm us if it is the Collector or Special edition?
there is a major difference (mostly in price) between these two deluxe boxed games.

I have enjoyed reading your comments and I agree with all of them. Differen people collect for different reasons. Designer Mithril are aimed at people who get a kick from collecting and will pay €500 on Ebay for a M16 figure. Or would like to have the opportunity to trade 29 rare figures and get a tremendous satisfaction from this and still have one figure on the shelf. I am sorry that this game is not for everybody because of the money treshold. But why do you absolutely want this figure when there are so many other affordable figures in the range? Krgds Lars md. Mithril Miniatures According to me there is a difference between 500€ and 2800€ or so... Mainly because of the rarity due to the date... there were not many M16 produced but by the time they were released they were not worth 500€ at all, and affordable by anybody... there is something about collecting and paying a price for something that is NO MORE available, and is rare because it is OLD and uncommon.... which is the case for many collections such as stamps, wines, postal cards, etc... but paying 2800€for something STILL to be MADE is not what i call collecting... Indeed Mithril touches many kinds of people, but also many kinds of collectors people. I was lucky enough to get my M16 for 30€ because i looked for it a lot and found good deal places... Unless Mithril thinks that its figurines are precious enough for true auction at Sothebies, I don't think this kind of "project" is a good one... Indeed that's just my opinion, anybody is free to think what he wants...

I think that the idea of letting people help in designing figurines is cool but allow people to buy their own designed figurine for such an expensive price does not seem reasonnable. The price may be reasonnable but not the concept of it at the end and I see many reasons to that.
I have been a Mithril fan for more than 10 years, and a Tolkien fan for even more than that. It took me years to complete a full collection of the Mithril range and still now Mithril would plan to make figurines so precious that even the famous M16 or the very early xmas figures would seem a ridiculous prize in a collection.
Making these figurines referenced in the M series which is supposed to be a "common" series is not a good idea according to me. Fans or collectors who wish to "fill" any holes in a collection could not get them all anyway... there should be a special range for these series if this comes to be released someway.
On the other hand, with this "politic", does Mithril clearly mean that if you have the money you can buy anything? why not paying to have an Aragorn fighting with Sting, or Gimli wielding a bow? Also, people who will pay... will mostly want special figurines, Personnalities most certainly, and why not, some that are outside the Tolkien Enterprise Licence... so in the end Mithril would be forced to refuse, and that means that even if you pay a little fortune you can't really have what you want so bad... (example : Tuor in Gondolin, Hurin in Angband...) And I doubt tolkien entreprise nor tolkien estate would approve that anybody could buy the right to "make a representation" of the tolkien work... (Look at what happend to ICE). The estate can be very nasty about that...
Finally, such a price for ONLY 30 figurines is not really correct I think, the best idea, in the end would be to allow people to pay if they want to participate (but not have the final word) on the elaboration of a figurine, and sell these figurines on a limited range (let's say 1000 of each) series like it was the case for the LR series... but definitly not in the M series...
well, i know it is a long post and I think I'll get an answer from many people. as I feel really concerned both as a Mithril collectionner AND painter... I do not collect them only to be proud...

well, the website mentions they will be released (the other five) in first quarter 2007... we'll have to wait. I like them too, and like Theobald and ddaines, I could be interested in this ruined tower if it is for sale. Another question for Michael (or Lars) : Can we (or MUST we) order from the website from France, or has the market with Prince August France been restablished and I order them directly from my retailer? I ask this because I saw that "finally" Lossarnach army has officially been released for sale on the Prince August France website (something like 8-10 months after its original release, and well, I would not want to wait another 10 months to buy those MERP series

Hello there, i find the idea of this gold membership a GREAT one but I have two important questions : - does it replace the "Mithril MX" project (it is somewhat alike in a far better way according to me) or is the Mx project still maintained? - I am french, and have been member of the fellowship from Prince August France for a long time. Still there somekind of a commercial "embargo" concerning Mithril in France which can only be purchased via Prince August FRANCE retailers and not directly from Mithril itself... For the GOLD membership can i BYPASS this process and ask for an update of my account directly in the original mithril and order the collector figurines the same way I do for the Christmas ones? Thanks for the answer (if you can find someone who can answer it

the question is : how many figurines were released each month? was it a complete serie ? If so, that would mean that there were 12 series for the single year of 1988. from "Races of Middle Earth 1" to "The Prancing Pony" and I think that we see the copyright of 1990 for the "Fellowship" series which is next. That means that no release at all have been made in 1989? maybe that would explain the rarity of the Christmas 1989 isildur vignette... And same for 1991 if there are none in 1991...
that's interesting but I'd need some more precise info, maybe Michael can answer this though it is quite old info...

well if there is no special hint about that, I'll use the dates below the figurines, but that may mean gaps (for example, no references at all for 1989) . That's amazing though.. more than 115 figurines released in 1988!! that's almost a fourth of the while M range!

As I am filling up my database with all the details, an interrogation occured to me. Mithril was founded in 1987, but from M1 and until M120 or so, the copyright under the figurines says "1988" that makes quite a lot for a single year... And then, the next ones are from 1990 and nothing in 1989... Since I was not collecting them at that time I have no time reference and I am forced to rely upon what is written under the figurines, but please could someone give me some info about those release dates because I am lost completly.

well Theobald, i am not in a hurry , just curious to know... actually if the mithril releases were slowed down it would let me breath a bit too I collect all the figurines to be sure to have them all...and actually I have all the mithril range, but I am a SLOOOW painter, in ten years of painting/collecting, I have only painted 350 references so far... which is approximatly only the half of what has been released (all series together)...

Is there some info coming out about this new MX Troll figure that should be released soon? mostly the availability ? Also, are the vignettes an exclusivity of the gold fellowship now, or does Mithril plan to release regular series vignettes again in the future?
