In diesem Sinne Theo

Hmmmm .... Was ist teuer? Such is life

Well David, There are names altered in the first and second German translation. There was a "new translation" published some years ago ... it wasn't good, because Tolkien's language wasn't recognizable any more. So the first translation (I think it was published in the early 70s) was quite good, I think. There were just a few names altered, which I would call "telling names", such as Butterbur or Goldberry and many of the Hobbits' names. But these were just a few changes. On the other hand a translation cannot copy the original. How to get close to Tolkiens use of language in German? That's why I always prefer to read the original version (though sometimes it can be very hard - I am thinking of the Silmarillion). Have a nice day

Yes, these fetlocks are new in the collection. I couldn't keep from smiling for a while because it's a brilliant idea. These are the fetlocks of a Shire horse. So we have the link to Tolkien directly at the horse's feet. ;D
Thanks, Chris
By the way, which other race of horses from the north could endure that much?

Huoommmm ...I can confirm that the missing part (the upright-defending-one) of that orc is being posted by now to those who are in need of that. - But all you hasty people around ... The vignette is brilliant, I have to say. So why not wait for the missing arm? .. meanwhile enjoying the vignette. Michael already found a quotation to excuse for that. And he is right. Hasty people you are, I think - please keep patient about a minor missing arm of some slayed orc (Goblin, I think). I am sure the "missing link" will meet you soon at your post box. Huuuoooommmm ... I'm writing this because I am absolutely trusting in all this company and fellowship .... so why do you haste everything?

I simply like this idea very much It leads to a new range for miniatures. I would like to have more figures from the north of Tolkien's tales. I could also imagine an M-series about those. But on the other hand I think they unfortunately wouldn't have that much support among other collectors. Anyway, I'll vote for "Lossie" at last, because I want to see this idea to be realized.

I think I also once suggested to take up the release of the Tengwar magazine a long time ago - and I still support this idea very much. - On the other hand ddaines' criticism is right. That would mean a lot of work publishing the Tengwar again (not to mention the costs to do that). But I still do like this idea

Thank you, Gildor, for the information. From your reply I can imagine that the vignette will become marvellous. It was a brilliant suggestion. Though it seemed to be hard to convince Chris Tubb to do it, as Michael pointed out once. So, many thanks to you as well, Michael.

Thanks, Gildor, for the information. From your reply I really can imagine that this vignette will be marvellous. Thank you for that suggestion. (Though it didn't seem to be easy to convince Chris Tubb to do it, as Micheal pointed out - so, many thanks to Micheal, too !!!) By the way the published photo does not reveal much, but it keeps me as restless as ddaines.

is there any news on the advancement of the vignette? maybe a preview pic or release schedule, and also the price? I also would like to find information (esp. pics) of the chosen and planned miniatures. As I have read some of the fellowship members do have access to such things (e.g. sketches of the Sauron-Vignette - or at least of details). So, where can I get this information? I really don't know.

oops, I'm a bit confused about quoting online... well, What I want to say is: Please keep on with this idea. Some time ago I already wrote in a comment, that it really has to be up to Chris' ideas what the vignette has to look like. - From my point of view I do trust absolutely. I can also be sure that his version will please me very much. This is the 'project' I am most excited about: He has (at last) decided to do the Dark Lord. Looking at the LR 11-miniature of the Witch King I'm convinced that there will come out another outrangeous vignette. I am really looking forward to it. There's just one trouble I have to face: Production seems to have become more steadily - and this is good to know. BUT: Where can I buy the time to paint all these last releases appropriately? Please keep on.

Just a quick note to explain my thoughts on the Sauron vignette. The vignette actually comprises the Dark-lord together with Elendil and Gil-galad, rather than Isildur. This is more in keeping with the scene described in Tolkien's text and additionally gives a better visual variety , showing an Elvan and a Numenorean character. The figure of Sauron is large and hisarmour is in large part based on the descriptions in ICE's "Southerm Mirkwood" rpg module. Note by Chris Tubb

Thank you, Peter for your last entry Thank you for quoting from the "Handbook" because this exactly explains my interest as a collector (and painter of miniatures). I still do rely upon that. Otherwise it wouldn't make any sense to me to collect Mithril Miniatures except from their quality. Let me also thank you expressing your thoughts about the one (single) person sculpturing these figures we are keen on. I once tried to broadcast this same thought.

Huuooommm .... Peter, they didn't "go to waste" But I really can understand your plea. All of them are excellent miniatures as I can see ;D But re-producing them as an "ordinary" M-series is a matter I think only Mr Tubb can decide. There also might be complications with copyrights about this idea, I can imagine. - But as Michael wrote this decision "might not be set in stone". As he also confirmed, "Chris is keeping a close eye on the forum". So I think it was a good thought to remind of this idea. - I do hope my entry here confirms this How did you get the idea of a diorama of Saruman's Army? As far as I know there are about 13 miniatures released in the old M-series and the LT-series of that army (most of them wearing the "White-Hand" shield. Additionally there's the M 8 and M 9 to fit in that army, I think. With the 16 different figures offered by Chris Tubb from the unreleased Mw347 that makes about 31 different figures for such an army altogether. If you just keep in mind that from that Mw347 army still 6 different miniatures are still missing that would make 36 different miniatures. That is more than the old Army-sets of Gondor and Orcs had. Well Michael O'Brian, I just wish that Mithril will continue producing those nice little miniatures. I have to say that I really enjoyed every release in 2006 - I'm not exaggerating, by the way Yes, and I'm looking forward to having new miniatures in 2007. But ... I still haven't received those which are available at the end of November ... December, maybe... Now to be serious and honest .... I appreciate your work very much and have always spent a long time in digesting each release that happened to appear in my study. Huoommmm, so, if you could please let Mr Tubb know about this ... in case you meet him

Chris has a habit of leaving certain troop types absent from multi-releases.This is unacceptable. You should either be more informed or turn to contemplating. So you might also reconsider your last three words. ... Sorry.

Well, about swords of the early ranges ... let's say from M1 to M20 (there are not that many swords): as far as I can see there are differences throughout the shape of swords which all are different from the original M16 sword, which are: M6, M14, M20(orcish), M21(orcish), M31 continues with Rohirrim. These are all figures of the first sets bearings swords that were casted separately from the positions they have to take once assembled. All of them were castings directly connected with the figure as a whole. As far as I know Chris Tubb always sculpted the figures as "individuals" ... so are the swords of each individual figure. Of course there have to be similarities as for typical shape of weapons. ..... But with his figures they do (sometimes slightly) differ. That's the case with the M16 sword.
